BOX OFFICE OPENING TIMES

WELCOME

With summer approaching we start this new season with our first ever Wyeside Inside Out festival. This 3 day festival of arts and participation is about the creativity and cultural history of our community. Activities include film screenings, workshops, art installations and live performances. The festival will premiere the vibrant new play “Tom a Twm” – created by Builth Wells High School and Wyeside, written by Ralph Bolland and directed by Ralph Bolland & Kama Roberts. We are pleased to introduce Discover Arts to our Satellite Live! programme, who are offering a season of unmissable cinema events giving audiences full access to some of the world's most captivating galleries, theatres and works of art. In May we welcome Mark Steel back to Wyeside, who’s touring his latest stand-up show “Who do I think I am?”. Then in June, South African guitarist Derek Gripper takes to the Wyeside stage to perform African kora music on his solo guitar – a feat which classical guitar legend John Williams said he thought was “absolutely impossible until I heard Derek Gripper do it”. We round off our live season with a performance by the Penzance Orpheus Ladies Choir, supported by the Builth Male Voice Choir.

JONATHON MORGAN Our former and longest serving Director Jonathon Morgan died on February 14th 2016. During his long association with Wyeside Arts Centre his great heart, vision, energy, inspiration and exceptional breadth of knowledge and empathy for all arts forms, transformed Wyeside into the leading small arts venue in Wales. He made it the model for others to follow. He will be greatly missed. His family have nominated Wyeside Arts Centre as their chosen charity and donations may be made in memory of Jonathon Morgan. Donations may be made to Wyeside online via our BT MyDonate page (www.mydonate.bt.com/events/jonathonmorgan/294293) or by cash or cheque payable to Wyeside Arts Centre Limited – please mention that this is in memory of Jon Morgan, and do call us on 01982 553668 if you would like a Gift Aid form.

WYESIDE INSIDE OUT WYESIDE Y TU MEWN ALLAN 22 – 24 APRIL 22 – 24 EBRILL

Let’s turn things on their heads. Let’s imagine there are no artists. Let’s imagine we’re all artists.

Gadewch inni droi pethau tu chwith. Gadewch inni ddychmygu nad oes unrhyw artistiaid.Gadewch inni ddychmygu mai artist ydi pob un ohonom.

Wyeside Inside Out is a 3 day festival of arts and participation, exploring the creativity and cultural heritage of our community.

Beth yw Wyeside Y Tu Mewn Allan? - G yl celfyddydau a chyfranogiad sy’n parhau am dridiau, fydd yn ystyried creadigrwydd a threftadaeth ddiwylliannol ein cymuned.

It is almost 200 years since the struggling Builth Wells poet Thomas Jeffery Llewelyn Prichard walked the county, carrying the single copy of his that novel he could afford to print. He had titled it The Adventures and Vagaries of Twm Sion Cati and he took it door to door, each sale enabling him to print one more. It was the first novel to be published in Wales. Prichard’s passion to record the community he knew would leave us with one of our most famous heroes.

Mae’n 200 mlynedd bron ers i’r bard tlawd o Lanfair-ym-Muallt,Thomas Jeffery Llewelyn Prichard droedio’r wlad gyda’r unig gopi o’i nofel - dyna’r cwbl roedd yn gallu fforddio ei argraffu. Teitl y nofel oedd ‘The Adventures and Vagaries of Twm Siôn Cati’; byddai’n mynd o ddrws i ddrws, a bob tro byddai’n gwerthu copi, byddai’n gallu fforddio argraffu un arall. Hon oedd y nofel gyntaf i’w hargraffu yng Nghymru. Roedd Prichard mor frwdfrydig ynghylch cofnodi ei gymuned enedigol, a thrôdd yn un o arwyr enwocaf Cymru.

For one weekend,Wyeside becomes a canvas for artists, groups and individuals from across our region, recording a spectrum of perspectives on the landscape and culture that TJ Llewelyn Prichard left behind.

Ar benwythnos unigol bydd cyfle i artistiaid a grwpiau’r ardal ddod i Wyeside i gymryd rhan mewn digwyddiad i gofnodi safbwyntiau amrywiol etifeddiaeth TJ Llewelyn Prichard.

Featuring youth theatre, cinema, literature and spoken word, comedy, visual arts, workshops and live installations, Wyeside Inside Out brings together a host of contributions to create a diverse portrait of our community today.

Bwriad Wyeside Y Tu Mewn Allan yw dod â theatr pobl ifanc, llenyddiaeth a’r gair llafar, comedi, celfyddydau gweledol, gweithdai a gosodiadau byw at ei gilydd ar gyfer llu o brofiadau fydd yn creu darlun amrywiol o’r gymuned sydd ohoni heddiw.

WHO DO I THINK I AM? Wed 4 May: 8pm £15*

It never occurred to me I needed to meet her to ‘find out who I was’, as it didn’t seem likely I’d discover I was someone different to who I thought I was. Could it turn out I was three stone lighter than I thought, or I spoke Italian, supported Arsenal or had a fear of Liquorice Allsorts? But after the birth of my own son, I realised it’s quite an event to have a child, she may well remember giving birth to me and maybe even the adoption.

Ballet in two acts LIVE Wed 6 April: 7.15pm £17 Full (£15 Concession)* Giselle is the quintessential Romantic classic, a love affair that begins in the real world and continues beyond the grave. The ballet’s title role also offers one of the great challenges of the ballet repertory, as Giselle transforms from an innocent peasant girl, duped into love, to a forgiving spirit who saves her lover from death. For the ballerina this is a role of two contrasting halves: in Act I she must appear naïve and artless, her dancing alive with an earthy enthusiasm; in Act II she transforms into light and air, her dancing so ethereal as to seem weightless.

CONCESSIONS

Times/prices are correct at the time of going to press, but are sometimes subject to changes beyond our control.

Reserved disabled parking is available on our forecourt, and wheelchair spaces are available in both auditoriums. All disabled seating is allocated on a first-come first-serve basis as these facilities are limited due to the restricted nature of our Grade 2 listed building. To guarantee admittance we strongly recommend booking in advance via our Box Office on 01982 552555. Unfortunately wheelchair spaces are not bookable online at this time.

Wyeside stands prominently on the end of Builth Wells’ famous Wye river bridge, opposite the Llewellyn mural. The centre is only 100 metres walk from the Groe public car park, which is free from 6pm. When you leave the car park, turn left, walk past the Builth bull statue and Wyeside is facing you at the top of the rise.

ONLINE 24/7 at www.wyeside.co.uk BY PHONE on 01982 552555 IN PERSON at the Box Office We accept all major credit/debit cards - there is a 50p charge per transaction. Sorry - we can no longer accept reservations. All ticket orders must be paid for when you book. Latecomers may be asked to wait for a suitable point in the performance.
