ment and a complete rebranding facelift. “We are so excited we are able to have the fair this year, because for awhile we didn’t know how things were going to shake out,” says Conkle. “We have been working since last fall on improving the grounds, bringing in diverse vendors and events and making sure Wyoming State Fair 2020 is one of the best.” With a fresh look and a few changes, the Wyoming State Fair will provide visitors and exhibitors the same heart-warming experience it has brought for the last 108 years. The week-long event is jam-packed with delicious food, exciting entertainment, talented local musical artists and some of the most competitive livestock shows in the area. In fact, WSF has something for everyone. A pull-out map and schedule of events can be found on pages 49-52. An entertainment schedule can also be found on page 20. His goal for the fair is to expand, become more financially stable and get kids from all counties to compete in their 4-H and FFA championships. Darin Westby was born in Casper and currently resides in Cheyenne. He joined the board in 2018, and his favorite state fair event is the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Rodeo. “My goal for the state fair would be to help get the fair to a more efficient and effective operation, which should develop a more comfortable financial footing to ensure a solid future,” he says. Shawn says, “My goal is to make the state fair as efficient and self sustaining as we can, to carry on the tradition for years to come.” Dan Barks is from Gillette and has been on the board since 2018. His favorite event is the Wild Horse Exhibition. Dan notes, “My first goal is to financially breakeven this year. Second, I’d like to bring the fair back to its important place in Wyoming as an event which showcases the agricultural lifestyle that made our state what it is today.” Joe Bridges is the vice-chairman of the board. He lives in Powell and has served on the board since 2018. His favorite event is the swine show. He hopes to increase the level of entertainment, livestock shows and overall growth of the state fair. Vicki Haley resides in Centennial and has been on the board since 2018. Her favorite event is the Junior Horse Show. Her short-
term goal for the state fair is to get through this pandemic year with a successful event. In the long-term, she’d like to improve appearance, maintenance and operation of the fairgrounds. She also wants to improve the cash flow and financial viability of the state fair. Stacy Broda lives in Cheyenne and has been on the board since 2018. Her favorite event at the fair is all of the youth livestock shows. Stacy says, “My goal is just to provide an educational opportunity for FFA and 4-H members. It’s important to showcase the ag industry across the state.” Jonathan Despain lives in Laramie and has served on the Wyoming State Fair Board since 2018. Doug Miyamoto was originally from Rawlins, but now lives in Cheyenne. He’s been on the board since 2018, and his favorite event is the Champion of Champions contests. 2020 Wyoming State Fair and Rodeo Official Guide
Wyoming State Fair implements health plan to keep fairgoers safe During this very unique year, Wyoming State Fair (WSF) has implemented guidelines to comply with the Wyoming Department of Health’s orders to keep everyone healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to make the fair the best it can possibly be. Here’s what fairgoers need to know before they visit. Guests should only enter WSF through the three main gates: WSF Main Gate 1 on Brownfield Road, Gate 2 at Cowboy Drive and Gate 3 on West Yellowstone. A WSF attendant will greet each visitor arriving at the fairground and free masks are available to all guests upon request. All guests are advised to practice safe social distancing requirements, maintaining a minimum of six feet from others who aren’t immediate family members or traveling together in a group. Guests should avoid crowding up or “queuing” in any WSF spaces. If there is a line, please allow for six feet of distance between parties. Sitting, eating, conferencing and meeting areas will be arranged to maintain a minimum of six feet distance between tables and/or seating areas. Please respect this space. All guidelines implemented by the WSF will comply with or exceed local and state mandated occupancy limits. More than 100 hand sanitizer dispensers will be available throughout the fairgrounds, including near guest entrances, driveways, reception areas, entrances, meeting and convention spaces, elevator landings, etc. Hand washing facilities are available throughout the fairgrounds. Please wash hands thoroughly and often while on WSF grounds. Guests are asked to stay home if they’re not feeling well or have recently been ill. WSF employees are trained to spot symptoms of COVID-19 and will keep a lookout for anyone displaying symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, elevated temperature or other known COVID-19 symptoms. Total daily maximum attendance will
be capped at 50 percent of capacity to comply with social distancing requirements. Additionally, guest admittance to shows and events in the FORD Grandstand are limited to 70 percent of the regular maximum capacity. Guests may bring their own chairs or camp chairs from home for event seating to ensure they feel comfortable attending WSF events. WSF, vendors and other fair participants and employees use cleaning products and protocols which meet strict Environmental Protection Agency guidelines and are effective against viruses, bacteria and air and blood-borne pathogens. Strict adherence to these cleaning protocols is in place after each individual event, as well as hourly throughout the fairgrounds to assure an exciting, safe experience at this year ’s Wyoming State Fair.

− Dusty Backer, Backer Bees
Environment isn’t just a buzz word at Basin Electric. Backer Bees has bees at Glenharold Mine, a reclaimed coal mine that used to supply coal to our first power plant. The reclaimed pasture has a variety of flowers−alfalfa, clover, sunflowers, wildflowers−making it one of the best areas in the nation to raise bees. Environmental stewardship has always been a guiding principle for us. That’s why we’re committed to reclaiming and restoring land back to its natural state, like Glenharold Mine.

Ranch Rodeo AND PARADE Kick off WSF In true Wyoming fashion, the Wyoming State Fair (WSF) will kick off the week with its annual Ranch Rodeo and Mutton Bustin’, featuring competitions that put everyday working cowboys of all ages to the test. The wild event will take place Saturday, Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. “We are going to have the same popular ranch rodeo, but, of course a few things have changed due to COVID-19,” says Triple V Rodeo Company Owner Dona Vold Larsen. Triple V Rodeo Company has served as the Wyoming State Fair Ranch Rodeo stock contractor for 10 years. In the past, the event has functioned as a championship, bringing in the top 10 qualifying teams across the state. However, this year, things may look a little bit different, depending on how many qualifying ranch rodeos are able to take place. “The events include things real ranch cowboys do on a regular basis,” Dona states. “There will be bronc riding, trailer loading, wild cow milking, branding and doctoring.” Young ranch kids will also have an opportunity to shine in the Mutton Bustin’. Dona notes there will be a few extra safety precautions in place to help slow the
spread of COVID-19. “Being mindful of COVID-19 is a priority for us. Cowboys on horses are able to social distance themselves, but we are limiting the number of helpers used for rough stock riders and our mutton busters,” Dona explains. Despite these extra precautions, the Wyoming State Fair Ranch Rodeo with Mutton Bustin’ is going to be an event fairgoers won’t want to miss. Dona comments, “The Ranch Rodeo with Mutton Bustin’ is excellent family entertainment. We draw some of the toughest bronc riders and ranch cowboys in the state, and they really put on a show.”
Kidz and Karz Parade Starts A week of events Kids from across Wyoming will line-up for the Kidz and Karz Parade to kick off the 2020 Wyoming State Fair Saturday, Aug. 8. Children and their families will line up at Brownfield Road and Cowboy Drive in colorful costumes on decorated bicycles and wagons, before marching through the fairgrounds on their way to the Ruthe James Williams Center. Kids may also dress up their animals and bring them on the parade. The parade is a family-friendly way to make kids feel recognized, have some fun and meet new friends! 2020 Wyoming State Fair and Rodeo Official Guide

TOUGH ENOUGH FOR BISONTOUGH ENOUGH FOR CATTLE
We met up with Brock Toler with Back Forty Bison and asked him a few questions about his opinion on the effectiveness of the Lewis Cattle Oilers. Brock is the ranch manager for Back Forty Bison near Dadeville, MO. Brock was skeptical, at first, on the durability of the Oilers. “Bison are notorious for tearing things up....flipping things over....To bison, everything’s a toy! To this date, they haven’t tipped one over! The durability has really been surprising”. The biggest thing that Brock loves about the Oiler is the efficiency. “They are so efficient! With the fact that they are not gravity fed, I’m not losing a bunch of product on the ground! The pump administers only the amount that needs to be put out on the animal! We use mineral oil with a permethrin based product. When you are dealing with mineral oil, the cost is definitely a factor. With the Lewis Cattle Oiler, there is no waste. I can fill up the 8 gallon tank, on the Oiler, and it will last all summer long....with the bison scratching on it ALL the time!”
“In the bison industry, the oiler pays for itself in one year” -Brock Toler, Back Forty Bison Brock says that they don’t deal with lice, as much, in their area. Flies are a HUGE problem! When asked about fly control Brock answered, “You can’t just go up and spray bison, like you do cattle. It has to be a remote way of treatment. With the self sustaining Oiler, the bison instinctively go directly to the diagonal cross piece on the Oiler. Bison LOVE diagonal pieces, whether it be a branch or power line....they are driven to it to rub and scratch on. This design is right up the alley on the bison’s thought process!” “After a while, the bison will deliberately go up to the face flap and just put their faces on the piece”, Brock stated. “Its interesting to see them go directly up to the piece and rub their eyes”.
People say, “Man, those oilers are expensive!” Brock looks at it like this, “At the end of the day-the cost of the Oiler is a calf without pinkeye! It pays itself off in one year, in our industry!” If you ask Brock his thoughts on the Oiler, he will tell you, “I am a TRUE believer of the product!” 40

Additionally, he has served on the South Central Sage Grouse Local Working Group, Upper North Platte Valley Water Conservation Districts and recently served on the Saratoga Planning and Zoning Board. Diana – agriculture involvement “Education is Diana’s passion, and she worked extremely hard to ensure every student in her district received the very best education possible,” the nominating team says. “Her commitment to education is exemplified by the fact that she was re-elected for a second term on her local school board.” Diana was appointed by Gov. Additionally, Diana is an active member of WSGA and served several years on the Environmental Stewardship Selection Committee and as chair of the association’s Ag Promotion, Education and Enhancement Committee. “As chair, she was a strong leader in
promoting agriculture and ag education activities across the state,” the nominating team says. Sharing their passion for ag One of the most notable aspects of the Bergers’ leadership in Wyoming’s ag industry is their devotion for sharing their love and passion for agriculture, especially with their children, Jace, Aubrey, Kyle and Kirby. “Together, Jack and Diana have been strong supporters of youth programs across the state,” says WSGA Executive Vice President Jim Magagna. “They have traveled many miles to ensure their own family could be engaged participants in these programs.” “Jack and Diana believe in strong family values and have taught their children the value of hard work, dedication and how to be good stewards of the land,” nominators say. “They also believe in passing the ranch down to the next generation and have positioned the ranch, their children and themselves to accomplish this goal. Family is a number one priority for the Bergers.” Magagna concludes, “Jack and Diana’s contributions to Wyoming agriculture, both individually and as a team, make them most worthy of this recognition.”

He provides a needed perspective on numerous issues facing our producers.” Creating a co-op One of Boner ’s most noteworthy accomplishments is his active role in creating MSLC. In fact, Brad served as co-chair in starting up the co-op and served as MSLC’s first chairman when it was up and running. “Brad, along with several other producers, dedicated not only hours, days, weeks or months, but years to develop a cooperative that would allow them to produce, market and sell their products,” says Camino. “Brad was one of the main contributors to the formation of MSLC, which in my opinion saved the operations of many producers, including my own.” “The establishment of MSLC and Brad’s role in developing it ensured a thriving
sheep industry in Wyoming to continue,” states Broadbent. “He is again serving as chairman of MSLC and dedicates a tremendous amount of time to help the co-op. He truly gives back to the industries that represent his livelihood,” adds Frank Moore, Boner ’s business partner of 17 years. Community involvement In addition to his involvement in Wyoming’s agriculture industry, Boner has also been active in his local community through the years. An avid basketball player and fan, Boner has refereed basketball for over 30 years, starting with college intermural basketball, then both middle school and junior varsity high school games in his hometown of Glenrock. “College basketball is his favorite sport and to this day he stays in referee mode, calling fouls and bad or missed calls when attending a game from his seat or in front of the TV,” says Moore. Moore adds, “Brad is an exceptional choice for Ag Hall of Fame, as his actions, both in business and as a volunteer, clearly reflect his ag roots, his good ethics and his love for the state of Wyoming and its agriculture industry.”

Top-quality Wyoming hay on display at Wyoming State Fair Hay Show Wyoming is known world wide for producing some of the highest quality alfalfa and grass hay. To enter, participants must have core samples taken by University of Wyoming Extension Educators to send to the Forage Analysis Laboratory. Entries can be made in either the open division or the young producers division, for producers under 36 years of age. A three-judge panel bases their decision on physical characteristics such as maturity, texture, leaf capture and retention, bale quality, color, odor, foreign material and mold, prior to evaluating the forage analysis. The final decision takes both the forage analysis and the evaluation of physical characteristics into consideration. The Wyoming Hay and Forage Association awards the Alan M. Gray Best of Show Trophy Plaque, buckles for champions in the open and young producer division, plaques for category grand champions, along with cash prizes, rosettes and ribbons for class winners.
Judging is to take place Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with awards presented at 3 p.m. A People’s Choice judging invites the public to view and place the hay Wednesday, Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 14 during show hours. The People’s Choice will be awarded Saturday, Aug. 15. Grass and alfalfa hay entries will be selected by the show superintendent to compete at the World Forage Analysis Superbowl during the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisc. in October.

Derner continues reign as Miss Rodeo Wyoming Due to the cancelation of Miss Rodeo America 2021 Pageant, and therefore the Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2021 Pageant, the gold and jade crown of Miss Rodeo Wyoming returns to the gem city of Laramie atop the hat of Rachel Derner. Rachel is the 23-year-old daughter of Justin and Tansie Derner and big sister to Rebecca, Teigen and Sage. Growing up on the back of a horse built a solid foundation for Rachel’s love of rodeo, agriculture and western heritage. From a very young age she has been involved in 4-H, raising and showing livestock while learning important life lessons and developing leadership skills. Rachel transitioned into FFA and found her passion for advocating for agriculture. She worked on her speaking skills and gaining

knowledge of industry issues so she could be an educated voice for agriculture. Rachel enjoys being an advocate for the ag industry which provides food, clothing and shelter to people across the world. This passion has directed Rachel into the agriculture communications field as she is pursuing a degree from the University of Wyoming. Once finished with her degree and her time as Miss Rodeo Wyoming, Rachel is determined to find her role in supporting the agriculture industry. She would like to serve as a public relations adviser for agricultural professionals. Rachel knows her time as Miss Rodeo Wyoming will help prepare for this career, and that her passion and love for rodeo will be an asset in her service to all of Wyoming as Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2020. She is looking forward to a year of adventures and a lifetime of memories.

Youth compete for top honors in swine shows Winning the Wyoming State Fair has been a goal Conner Booth has been working toward since he joined 4-H at eight years old. Last year, this dream came true when Conner took home the title of Champion Market Hog with his blue butt gilt named Maggie. “Having the Wyoming State Fair Champion Market Hog felt so great,” Conner comments. “My brother, Caleb, had the Reserve Champion Hog last year, so it was a lot of fun to come back

and take home the title of Grand Champion with another one of our pigs.” Conner notes he spent last summer walking Maggie for 30 minutes every morning and showing at a few local jackpots. “I will have two hogs at state fair this year, and I will be on the hunt for that championship title again,” he says. The Wyoming State Fair Market Swine Show will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 12, with showmanship beginning at 4 p.m. Following the market show, champion hogs from each county fair will have a chance to compete in the elite Champion of Champions Show.

Youth sheep shows promise quality in wool and meat from top to bottom The 2019 Champion Market Lamb was shown by Braxton Olson of Cheyenne. Olson, a 10-year showman, called the win an indescribable moment in his life and a very special one to share with his family. “I picked up showing about as early as I could, but I didn’t show sheep until my second year,” Braxton says. “My first show animal was a Hampshire pig named King Julian.” One of the first goals Braxton set for his career in sheep showing was winning showmanship at the Wyoming State Fair. “After winning showmanship, I decided to raise the bar and make winning the Champion Market Lamb my next goal. It was a goal six or seven years in the making,” he says. “I talked my parents into letting me breed the first ewe I showed,” Braxton shares. “It’s been a huge learning curve, learning about how to make breeding decisions. My ewe had a really big buck lamb, and my dad helped me pull it.” Braxton says his advice to young showman is to not be afraid to ask questions and seek help from people that have been successful. “Everyone in the industry is really willing to help. I’ve learned so much by building off of other people’s knowledge and learning by doing,” he says. He and his family currently own 60 head of elite ewes in their breeding program. “It’s a lot of work. But, there are a lot of memories with my family near and dear

to me, from being out in the barn together working sheep every night and showing together,” Braxton notes. The Wyoming State Fair boasts four days of competitive youth sheep shows. Competitions begin on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. with the Youth Sheep Fitting Contest followed by the Champion of Champions Market Lamb Challenge featuring the Grand Champion Market Lamb from each county at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 starts with 4-H Sheep Showmanship at 8 a.m. followed by the Youth Breeding Sheep Show. Breeds featured include Columbia, Dorset, Hampshire, Rambouillet, Suffolk, Targhee and Any Other Wool, Meat or Hair Breed as well as Commercial or Wether type sheep. FFA Sheep Showmanship begins 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14 with the Youth Market Lamb Show and Pen of Five Market Lambs following. Market lamb classes include blackface, whiteface, speckled face, natural color, Suffolk, Hampshire, Southdown, Dorset and Shropshire. Saturday, Aug. 15 hosts the Open Class Sheep Show and Natural Colored Sheep Show at 8 a.m. and the Wyoming Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (WVATA) Jackpot Market Lamb Show at 1 p.m. to round out the week.

Wyoming FFA ag teachers retire With a combined total of 152 years of service to agricultural education in Wyoming, five vocational agricultural education teachers and FFA advisors retired this spring. Clint Bromley, who has been teaching in Encampment for the last 21 years, was known for 41 years of top-notch shop projects and turned out many students with knowledge of hands on skills, according to Wyoming FFA. Clint previously taught in Burns for 17 years as well as three years in Meeker, Colo. Baggs’ long-time FFA Advisor and Agricultural Educator Dale Wille also retires after 33 years at the Little Snake River Valley School. “Mr. Wille is known for his sense of humor, love of teaching in the shop, his end-of-year project auction, collecting agronomy samples over the summer and overseeing the agronomy entries at State Fair,” notes the Wyoming FFA. Dale’s father also taught agriculture in Baggs for 28 years. Jim Pannell has a long history of agricultural education at different levels. Jim was the livestock judging coach at Laramie County Community College and taught animal science in the 80s. Since then, Jim taught high school agriculture in Meeteetse for one year and has spent the last 10 years at the school in Hulett. “We can always count on Mr. Pannell for a shoulder to learn on, a smile, some teasing, honest advice and to keep the ag mech exhibits

organized and in order at State Fair,” says the Wyoming FFA. Ty Berry started his 37-year teaching career at East High School in Cheyenne. He then moved to Cheyenne’s Central High School to start a new agricultural education and FFA program. Ty also had a hand in starting the program at South High School in Cheyenne. “Mr. Berry might be the only teacher in Wyoming to start two new programs from the ground up,” says Wyoming FFA. After 24 years of teaching agriculture in Burns, Craig Spatz turns over the reins. “We are appreciative of Mr. Spatz’s knowledge of parliamentary procedure and working the swine show at State Fair all these years,” Wyoming FFA shares. Craig also taught for six years in Torrington and three years in Cheyenne. Many congratulations are in order for all five educators on successful careers in agricultural education and best of luck on the deserved retirements!

Hop on over to the Wyoming State Fair Youth Rabbit Show Youth rabbit exhibitors have the chance to demonstrate their knowledge and passion for the rabbit industry at the Wyoming State Fair Youth Rabbit Show. 4-H rabbit projects are flexible, with classes teaching members how to select a rabbit, to handling, breeding, parts of a rabbit, management, equipment, feeding, health, breeding and kindling, and that’s just at the beginner level. Once participants have graduated to the intermediate level, they will next learn how to select, judge, give oral reasons, show rabbits, tattoo their rabbit, keep records and detect diseases. In the advanced level of the rabbits project, there’s even more to learn about breeding, genetics, culling, determining pregnancy, designing a rabbitry, anatomy, teaching others, registering a rabbit and marketing rabbits. The Wyoming State Fair’s rabbit events
are set for Friday, Aug. 14 at 9 a.m., with the 4-H and FFA Rabbit Showmanship, immediately followed by the Youth Rabbit Show. Both take place in the Ag & Natural Resource Center on the fairgrounds.
Wyoming is known for being proud supporters of the military and has roughly 50,000 veterans living in the state. Along with this, Wyoming is home to nearly 20 Army units, one Air Force base that includes a large portion of the United States nuclear arsenal, and a Premier Joint Training Center to name a few. On Wednesday, August 12, 2020, the Wyoming State Fair, along with Wyoming Touchstone Energy Rural Electric Cooperatives, will continue the tradition of supporting our troops by having a
Military Appreciation Day.
On Military Appreciation Day, and through the week, the local and state National Guard United will host an active military display and booth on grounds featuring vehicles, tools and equipment from the various branches. The Wyoming Touchstone Energy Rural Electric Cooperatives will offer complimentary gate admission for any individual serving in the military, and up to two (2) dependents by presenting their current military ID. If an individual serving in the military is deployed during this time, their spouse and up to two dependents may receive complimentary gate admission on August 12. The spouse must present a current military identification card.

K9 Kings brings new and exciting entertainment to fairgoers This year, the Wyoming State Fair is bringing a fun mix of music, comedy, audience participation and high-flying trick dogs to the paved area between Ft. Fetterman and Ft. Reno, in their new program which features a different show every year, free to fairgoers with fair admission. This year, JD Platt’s K9 Kings Entertainment will fill the space with a variety of dog breeds, acrobatic trick routines, rescue dogs and a large meet and greet pet area. During the performance, JD talks about the talented rescue dogs that have come into his life. He demonstrates the trainability and hard work that has gone into training his dogs to bring our their natural and instinctual abilities. The stories of his rescue dogs are inspirational and a great way to encourage people to adopt, rescue or foster dogs in need of homes. At the end of the show, the audience will have a chance to socialize with all of the dogs that performed during the show during a meet and greet session.

LUM Studio gives WSF a fresh look One of the many changes seen by the Wyoming State Fair (WSF) in the last year is its partnership with Casper-based LUM Studio. “Last year, the state fair put out a request for proposals for marketing services. We responded through a competitive process and were awarded the contract,” explains Leah Reeb Varela, director of operations and business development at LUM. “We are now in charge of all marketing aspects for the state fair, including the new logo and look of WSF, building and launching the website, all of their graphic design, media and public relations and social media creation and management.” Leah notes LUM will also take care of WSF’s fair-time marketing work, creating all of the graphics and banners, as well as offering videography and photography services. Now a team of seven, LUM began with just Leah and her long-time friend Kerstin Ellis. “Kerstin and I came together, looking
at ways we could create a business in our wheelhouse and work with businesses we supported and were passionate about,” says Leah. “We founded a company called Hinge, but we recently rebranded to LUM.” According to Leah, LUM is a full-service consultancy offering strategic integrated services to work with their clients in variety of ways. This includes project specific work, training, social media management, full-integration services, branding and design, coaching and training, communications, content creation and management, marketing metrics, paid media, photography and videography, public and media relations, social media strategy work and website design. “WSF is a good example of our full-integration services. We work as an extension of their team,” says Leah. “We are lovers and supporters of the state fair. They have an awesome team that is trying to make a difference, improve, grow and expand, even in this crazy time. We are thrilled to be a part of their team.”

Beef shows showcase Wyoming’s best youth and cattle Sam Petsch and his steer, Boots, were selected as the duo to win the coveted 2019 Champion Market Beef title. Sam, who was been showing cattle for eight years, says, “Showing cattle has been a tradition in my family for over 50 years.” “Everyone in my family is a mentor to me and has taught me so much,” comments Sam. When asked about what he looks for in a market prospect, he says, “I always look for something that catches my eye, but also has the right parts and pieces that will still look good when feeding and putting weight on them.” Boots, the Champion Market Beef steer, earned his name from the amount of hair on his legs as a calf. Sam says, “He had five inches of hair on his legs. It looked like he was wearing furry boots.” Shortly after the conclusion of the Wyoming State Fair, Sam began his freshman year of high school. “I think winning state fair made me realize all of the hard work that got me to this point
was worth it. It motivates me to work harder,” says Sam. There are multiple opportunities at the Wyoming State to catch young cattle producers showing their projects. The week kicks off with the Wyoming Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (WVATA) Youth Market Beef Jackpot show on Tuesday, Aug. 12 starting at 6 p.m. Several beef production shows, including the Wyoming Future Cattle Producers, Northern International Livestock Exposition (NILE) Merit Heifer and National Western Stock Show (NWSS) Catch-a-Calf Showcase continue the opportunities for competition on Friday, Aug. 14 starting at 8 a.m. FFA Beef Showmanship begins at 9 a.m. on Aug. 14 and is followed by the Youth Breeding Beef Show, Pen of 5 Beef Heifers and the Open Prospect Calves. The last day of the fair offers a full day of beef shows, the 4-H Beef Showmanship starts at 8 a.m. followed by the Youth Market Beef Show, Pen of 5 Market Beef and the Champion of Champions Market Beef Show.
“I love that through Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom we are actually teaching students about their surroundings and all our state has to offer not only to Wyoming, but the world!” - 2nd Grade Teacher, Rawlins, WY Learn more at www.wyaitc.org Wyoming Stewardship Project Educator Workshops | Family Learning Series

Robert Short
Standing Tall for Wyoming Agriculture
Agriculture is critical to Wyoming’s economy, our open spaces and our abundant wildlife. Robert Short learned the value of the dollar at the age of 12 by working on the Duncan Ranch in Converse County. The $1 an hour pay afforded Robert the luxury of purchasing new shoes for the school year, but more importantly, working on the ranch taught him the values of diligence, honesty, integrity, and grit. Robert recognizes the importance of agriculture to the Wyoming way of life. ● End the Death Tax ● Manage Wild Horses ● Encourage Interstate Shipment of Meat and Direct Sale to Consumers ● Ensure Wyoming Management of Wolves and Grizzlies ● End Dumping of Foreign Beef and Lamb on the U.S. Markets ● Reinstate Country of Origin Labeling (COOL). ● Maintain Multiple Use and Access to Public Lands for Grazing ● Enforce Packer Concentration and Captive Supply ● Prevent the Future Listings Under the Endangered Species Act ● Develop Markets for Wyoming Grown Hemp ● Address Aging Irrigation Infrastructure ● Continue the Operation of State and Federal Wildlife Feed Grounds in Wyoming
