Grade 12 Report

Who would have guessed that the much awaited final year for the 2020 matrics would be anything but the normal. Covid-19 put paid to most of the matric traditions. Taking place in the first term, was the matric sleepover which escaped the ravages of Covid-19. After a swim, the fires were lit and everyone either relaxed in the hall, lying on their mattresses or danced around the fires. Very few slept that night and the next day, it was a subdued, tired group that went to class.

Unfortunately, the much anticipated matric dance and fashion show could not take place this year. However, the Final Countdown saw the matrics make an immense effort to dress up as their favourite book/film characters. The event was enjoyed by everyone.

We were able to host parents in the Honours Quad for the Valedictory, with everyone adhering to strict Covid-19 protocols. Head of School, Stacey Muzanya, reflected over the last five years of school. The Pillar Colour Awards were presented to the deserving winners. Eventually, each matric collected a protea from their respective House Co-ordinators and exited the school.

The Special Matric Celebration was a formal function, looked forward to by all matrics. After snacking on canapes and a special sweet box, the matrics entered the hall and, with great excitement, watched a collection of memories of their past five years on the big screen.

Finally, at the Prizegiving, many matrics were acknowledged for their achievements this year.

We wish our matrics of 2020 well for their future endeavours. Mrs Elke Hill
