Royal Society of South Africa Award Winners

In September we were delighted to receive news from the Royal Society of South Africa that two of our Science learners impressed the judges and took the first and second prizes in the 2020 National Science Essay Competition.

The First Prize of R5000 has been won by Maria Stock of Grade 12 for her essay: Is there scientific evidence to support (or refute) Greta Thunberg’s assertion that humanity is facing a climate-induced emergency?

In addition, Second Prize of R4000 has been won by Tarryn Venter of Grade 12 for her essay: South Africa has a wealth of medicinal plants. How should the government and research scientists balance the need to develop new medicines with the need to protect these resources?
