A new year, some new faces, a new Instagram feed, and the Communications Team was ready to take charge – and then, with the world moving almost completely online, they did.
The Marketing Department and Communications Team started off the new year with a new style to the @wynghs_official Instagram feed, with a focus on cohesion, colour coordination and fun. We continued the “Weekly Wynberg Woman” as a way to recognise the actions and achievements of students which went beyond the school’s official termly and annual prizegiving awards. However, this year, WGHS in keeping with a growing consciousness of the importance of gender-neutral language, we changed the name to “Monday Mention”.
During the first 21 days of Lockdown, the team designed and posted daily challenges to keep those following on the Instagram active and entertained.
The Communications Team paired up with Photography Society to create a weekly 24-hour photo challenge that involved and inspired the talented photographers in the school, with focus on storytelling and the true emotions of what it felt like to be under lockdown. With the return of students to campus, the Instagram platform has showcased the laughter and joyous moments students across the grades have felt as a community as we all found a way to a new normal.
The Communications Team collaborated with the Music department to showcase the talent of our matric musicians, filming their performances of their stunning pieces. As the year comes to an end, Communications continues to be an inspired force within the halls of Wynberg, aiming to grow and change as the world does.
