Friday afternoons are usually a cause for celebration for most of us. It is no different at Triumph High School where students and staff close out each week of rigorous learning and growing with a tradition that is called “Spartan Friday.” Spartan Friday is an hour on Friday afternoons when students can participate in fun activities like making bracelets, learning to play card games, playing console games on the big screens, and various other activities that forge further bonds among the students and the staff while also sneaking in some more learning opportunities in nontraditional settings. For example, this week students helped Amy Schick, sci-

ence teacher, prep the new saltwater aquarium so fish can be added soon, and students worked with Scott Hume, Triumph Publications advisor, creating content for the yearbook. Students have the chance to work with their teachers to remediate their grades and learning during this time as well. Seth Chafin, Triumph senior, shared that, “Spartan Friday has always been something to look forward to and the activities help keep you focused on keeping your grades up so you can join in.” This tradition is another part of what makes Triumph a successful alternative high school.

Patten Creek History and Updates
The Patten Creek Site is a prehistoric stone tool fabrication site in Platte County. Blake Griffin, Wyoming Military Department, Wyoming Army National Guard CFMO Senior Archeologist, will be presenting a program on February 27 at 6:00pm at the Hartville City Hall, 200 Main Street, Hartville, Wyoming. The site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 11, 1989. The program is free and open to the public. Sunrise Historic and Prehistoric Preservation Society, SHAPPS, dues are encouraged.
Delta Kappa Gamma Annual Used Book Sale
Delta Kappa Gamma will collect used books through February 23 for their 41st Annual Used Book Sale. The preferred collection spot will be the sale site in the former Big Lots in Cheyenne Plaza, 3501 East Lincolnway, next to the Trampoline Park. Hours at this site will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9:00am-1:00pm. Longer hours will be Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday 9:00am-4:00pm. Collection boxes will be in Albertson’s at 5800 Yellowstone Road and 3355 East Pershing; Safeway at 700 South Greeley Highway; Gold’s Gym, 1616 East Pershing; Sprouts, 5214 Rue Terre; and the YMCA, 1426 East Lincolnway. If you are unable to deliver books, or have a large quantity, within a ten mile radius, call 307-630-3682 or 307-421-1755 for an appointment, leave a message. Books must be boxed or bagged for easy pick up and on a porch or in a garage. Books on CD, DVDs, games and puzzles are appreciated. Spirits of Mardi Gras Tasting Event

Adult Co-Rec Dodgeball League
Cheyenne Recreation Division has announced that registration is now open for the Adult Co-Rec Dodgeball League. Early registration will continue until February 27, with late registration running from February 28 through March 13 with a $50 late fee added if space is available. All registration closes after March 13. The cost of the league is $180 per team. Individuals can also sign up at a cost of $40 per player. The season starts April 7 and will tentatively run until May 26. Each team is guaranteed eight games, which will be played Monday evenings at the Beast Recreation Center.
