Winter in Wyoming
By: Abigail Allen
In my opinion, winter in Wyoming is awful. Although Wyoming is very pretty and it can look like a winter wonderland after it snows, the (literally) cold reality side of it is that it’s awful. If you talk to a lot of people that live here, they could (most often) lie and tell you they love the snow, but they are probably thinking the same thing and that is that they don’t like all of the negatives that accompany the aesthetic of snow. It sucks having to start your car ten minutes before you leave just so it can be warm when you get in it, but since it’s so cold it will probably still be cold when you go to leave because your heater can’t keep up with the cold. Another thing that is so awful about winter in Wyoming is the wind. It could be 5 degrees outside, and the wind chill would be -10 degrees. The wind makes the snow blow, which causes drifts. It also blows the cold wet snow on your face as you are already struggling to walk through that biting cold temperature. Another thing that is arduous about winter is the snow itself. And look, I know a lot of people in different states can experience bad snowfall but in my personal experience, when we get a wet, heavy, and long snowstorm, it makes it very difficult to drive. The plows can help, but the ice is still bad and as a new driver it’s even harder to get places because we teenagers don’t

have as much experience driving in the snow. Another awful thing about winter in Wyoming is the limited amount of daylight we get, it’s dark in the morning because the sunrise does not happen until around 7 am and the daylight only lasts until around 4:30. So, for most of the day, it could feel like night. One of the last points I want to make is the feeling of isolation, it can be hard to travel in bad weather like going to different states or different towns. It makes it difficult because the highways close often and the accidents that happen on the highway in bad weather can stop all the traffic from flowing. So, my point is that although winter in Wyoming can be beautiful looking on the outside there are so many key factors that make you want it to be summer once again.
With the weather getting nicer, are you itching to do some
cleaning? No doubt you’ll find some things you forgot you had and no longer need or want. Turn your “trash” into

HOW ARE THEY HOLDING?
Seven weeks into the new year Seven weeks since you made some good resolutions How are they holding? That commitment to stop smoking and drinking to treat your wife and children better, to go to church more to deal with that overweight How is it going? We have good intentions; we make good resolutions But can we carry them out? It seems like few of us have the strength o f character to purpose a good thing and see it through We make important promises like marriage vows or baptismal vows, or maybe business commitments, and often find ourselves failing in these things

We are like the Apostle Paul in Romans 7:15, who said “For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not: but what I hate, that do I ” Broken vows or resolutions bring guilt and remorse We feel defeated and condemned by our inadequacy and failure
The Apostle Paul dealt with the same things In Romans 7:24, he said, “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” The answer is in the very next verse “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord’” Romans 7:25 In Christ Jesus, we find forgiveness and the removal of condemnation Our sins are forgiven as we come to Him confess our sins and ask Him to come live in our hearts Our guilt is removed and we receive power to live godly lives and keep the commitments we make “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit ” Romans 8:1 The downward pattern of our lives is reversed when we have Jesus in our hear ts We can move ahead confidently in life, satisfied in our relationships with God and able to keep the commitments that we have made High Prairie Mennonite Church 4083 County Rd 207, Carpenter WY 82054, Services 10AM each Sunday and 7PM on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month Everyone welcome! 307631-7009 or 307-4773249
