Laramie County School District 1

UPDATES

LCSD1, CPD, LCSO create emergency protocol PSA

aramie County School District 1, the Cheyenne Police Department and the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office have teamed up to create a Public Service Announcement about the district’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP).

The video is intended to educate parents, families and the public about what happens during emergency protocols and how to respond to each protocol when it occurs at their student’s school.

The video covers the district’s Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter protocols. It offers useful tips such as texting students rather than calling them during a lockdown and staying away from the

school until the lockdown is lifted to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles.

Speaking in the video are LCSD1 Safety and Security Administrator Todd Deporter, School Resource Officer (SRO) Manny Fardella from the Cheyenne Police Department, SRO Dawson Smith from the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, South High senior Aidan Cabrera, Central High senior Meredith Paul and East High senior Warren Barnes-Smith. The video also features Prairie Wind fourth graders Asher Dafoe, Brooke Tully and Cru Sheets as B-roll actors.

The PSA can be found by scanning the QR code below or by visiting https://youtu.be/ O7ByxIaFrYQ

Our protocols

and what to do when they’re enacted

Hold protocols are typically used to clear the hallways during a medical or behavioral disturbance.

Students—Clear the hallways and remain in a classroom or area.

Parents—No action needed unless you receive a call about your specific student.

Secure protocols occur when there is a possible threat in the surrounding area. Students—Return to the inside of the building.

Parents—No action needed. You may be asked to stay outside during a Secure protocol.

Lockdowns are enacted when there is a possible threat inside the school.

Students—Get into a room, lock the door, keep out of sight and remain silent.

Parents—Stay away from the school until the lockdown is lifted. This makes room for emergency vehicles and keeps you out of harm’s way. Do not call your student or the school. Your student may text you with updates if they are able.

Evacuations are used when students need to leave the school due to a hazard.

Students—Leave things behind. If possible, bring a cell phone. Follow instructions. Parents—Stay where you are until the reunification process begins.

Shelter protocols are used during hazards such as tornadoes, earthquakes or hazmat. Students—Evacuate to the shelter area and use appropriate safety strategies.

Parents—Get yourself to safety and wait for the reunification process.
