Walking Wyre Health Walks 2017

Welcome and Information Enjoy Wyre’s coast, countryside, parks and green spaces by taking part in health walks, guided walks, family activities, conservation days and events in Wyre. A programme of family activities for all ages!

Booking Information

You can book your place on activities (as well as accommodation) at the Visit Garstang Centre.

All health walks are free and everyone is welcome no matter what their age or ability. Volunteer walk leaders can you help you to take up walking, by starting you off on a gentle amble and leading you up to a one hour walk. Please let the leader know if you would find this helpful. In addition, 30 minute walks will be available from Marine Hall and the Wyre Estuary Country Park, these will start at the same time as the one hour health walks. All walk times are approximate, dependent upon the pace of walkers. Please arrive ten minutes before the start of the walk for a prompt departure. It will be necessary for each new customer to complete a health questionnaire. For those people who would like to make use of a Tramper (a motorised wheelchair suitable for off-road as well as paths), these are available on all walks with a T displayed. Please note we need seven days notice to book a tramper for a health walk.

Every month we offer two hour walks called Legstretchers , these have a £ sign displayed, as there is a small charge for participating £3.50 adults, £2.50 concessions.

Important information * * * * * * * * * *

When attending an activity please take the advice of the leader. We reserve the right to refuse to take people on activities if we feel they are unsuitably equipped for the activity. If you intend to leave the event early please inform your leader for your own safety, please come dressed to match the type of activity and be prepared for all weather conditions with appropriate footwear and waterproof clothing. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of all walks to allow for registration, putting boots on, etc. The finish times of the events/activities are approximate, please let the leader know if you need to return for a certain time at the start of the activity. If you cannot attend an activity that you are booked on, if possible, let the leader or Visit Garstang staff know in good time so if there are reserves on the list they can be given the chance to attend the walk. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on guided walks unless stated. This is because some of the activities cross farmland containing livestock or nature reserves with nesting birds. Dogs are allowed on the health walks and legstretchers, but dogs must be kept under close control at all times and on a lead on request by the leader, and you must clean up after them. Please bring a drink particularly on the longer walks and any bring medication you may need during the activity. For some activities there may be things, such as binoculars, camera, etc. to bring with you. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If you have any medical conditions that the activity leader should know about, please mention this at the start of the activity. Alternatively, check with your GP or health practitioner before you take part. Our health walks are a good starting point for people recovering from ill health.

Group Bookings

We cannot accommodate organised groups on the walks and some of the activities. If your group would like to take part, please contact Visit Garstang on 01995 602125.

Information on walking grades

To help you decide which is the walk for you. Wherever possible an approximate time and terrain guide has been given for each walk.

The Seaside Code The seaside is a great place to visit and enjoy, but it can be dangerous if you don’t take care while you’re there. Please respect the coast and the plants and animals that live there.

Friday 25 GW Glasson Dock Legstretcher 6.30pm - 8.30pm Grade: easy, 5 miles, dogs, boots £ A low level walk by sea and canal around Glasson Dock viewing wildlife and local heritage.

Leave Us Alone Please leave things where you find them, and don’t take them home. Stones and pebbles on the beach look very attractive, but they are there for a reason. Removing stones from the beach will harm the many plants, animals and birds that live and feed amongst them.
