Good health is about staying fit and being active, but it’s also about getting out, socialising and learning new skills. All of these things can help us to feel our best. In this brochure you’ll find lots of groups you can join and activities you can enjoy in Wyre. Each is really friendly and new starters are always welcome.
WORKING TOGETHER We are always looking to work with new community groups across Wyre to ensure we have a wide variety of activities available for people to take part in to keep healthy and well. We are currently working with local friendship groups, gardening groups and mental health support groups across Wyre to further develop what is available locally. If you run a community group and would like to find out about support that the council can offer, contact our team at community@wyre.gov.uk

It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition. A number of council officers, elected members, traders at Fleetwood Market and local businesses have become Dementia Friends so far. Our hope for the future is that the borough will become a dementia friendly community. We have a number of Dementia Friends Champions who can deliver Dementia Friends awareness sessions to businesses and organisations in Wyre with 10 or more staff. BEACH CLEANS
WALKING
Together with LOVEmyBEACH and local communities we hold a number of beach cleans every week.
There are so many nice places to walk in Wyre, from our promenades to our countryside, riverside and quiet country villages. There’s nothing quite like getting outside and enjoying a walk in the fresh air.
Volunteering for something like a group beach clean is a great way to improve your health and wellbeing - as well as getting out in the fresh air, giving something back to your community can keep you active. It’s a free way to get some exercise complete with beautiful views. With the average event lasting up to 2 hours, there’s plenty of time to make a dent in your 10,000 daily steps! All you need to do is turn up and wear suitable clothing for being outside on the beach. All equipment is provided and at some of the cleans there’s even the chance to enjoy a warming brew after with the team. Find out when the beach cleans take place at www.lovemybeach.org.uk
We offer a range of guided walks all year round, from short strolls to more challenging routes there’s something to suit all abilities. Attending the Wyre health rides cycling sessions turned out to be a great confidence booster for me, as it was the first time I'd ridden a bike properly in nearly 19 years. I found sessions were very gentle and the volunteer instructors friendly and encouraging. Now after joining the course, I'm in possession of a brand new bike and have a new enthusiasm for cycling. The rides offer an excellent opportunity to help people get back in saddle and are a great way of encouraging novice cyclists to take to their wheels. Local resident Angela
