It’s Summer 1974. A well-intentioned tea party descends into chaos...

London Classic Theatre presents

Wealthy, unfulfilled housewife Diana arranges a gathering of old friends to cheer up bereaved Colin, whose fiancée drowned two months earlier. Paul, her bullying, self-absorbed husband, has recently had a dalliance with Evelyn, the glamorous wife of his friend and incompetent business associate, John. The party is completed by long-suffering Marge, who has left Gordon, her hypochondriac spouse, ailing at home. Preparations for the party spark tensions and open old wounds. As lingering resentments and deep-rooted jealousies surface, an unexpectedly cheerful Colin strolls into the mayhem. Acerbic and painfully funny, Absent Friends explores friendship, marriage and what it ultimately means to be happy. In one of his finest plays, Ayckbourn’s craftsmanship and acute social observation have never been sharper or more biting.

MON 1 – SAT 6 JUNE Winner of over 30 major awards including the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best New Play, Alan Bennett’s comic masterpiece was voted the nation’s favourite play in a recent national survey. Set in the 1980s, The History Boys is the story of a group of bright, funny and unruly sixth-formers in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. Their maverick English teacher is at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher, whilst their headmaster is obsessed with results and league tables. Staffroom rivalry and the anarchy of adolescence overflow, provoking insistent questions about history and how you teach it. Their ‘A’ Levels may be over, but their true education is only just beginning. Presented in a brand-new touring production from the producers of Avenue Q UK Tour, Spring Awakening UK Tour and Seussical West End, The History Boys is a hilariously funny and exceptionally moving play about the true purpose of education. This national treasure has proved to be the perfect night at the theatre. ‘Pass it on boys...that’s the game I wanted you to learn...pass it on’

THANK YOU FOR HELPING

GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL Wyvern Theatre is raising money to help fund brand-new operating theatres at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. For the past three years HQ Theatres & Hospitality, alongside sister company Qdos Entertainment, has been supporting the Theatres for Theatres appeal, in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. So far the generosity of audiences and staff has raised over £570,000 for the charity, but we have more to raise to help build and equip a suite of new operating theatres at the Hospital which will open in 2017. You can donate using collection tins at the Wyvern Theatre or online at gosh.org/theatredonation ©2007 Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (©2008 Theatres for Theatres) Registered charity no. 23582
