Thameside West Masterplan, Newham. Regenerating a 16-hectare former industrial site on the edge of the River Thames into a mixed-use neighbourhood informed by integral sustainable design principles. In order to be sustainable, places must not just perform well within systems but should also engender holistic experiences and manifest meaning. This layered masterplan is defined by fine-grained urbanism, abundant green, urban ecology, transitional spaces, soft public squares and piazzas, safe car-free streets, niches and corners, courtyards and gardens, outdoor living, safety and enclosure.
