UNIQUE PROGRAMS Ignatian Scholars This very selective program admits the top 80-85 incoming freshmen each year. Ignatian Scholars must also tutor classmates throughout the year.
CURRICULUM
Christian Service Sophomores and juniors must complete 10 hours of service per year. Seniors complete 72 hours of service, devoting each Monday of their spring semester to a service placement of their choice. CFX The Companions of Xavier service and immersion program is a longstanding Xavier tradition that gives students the opportunity to live out the Ignatian call to be men for others. Trips provide students with a communal experience of church as a center of reflection and prayer while working and being with those most in need, both domestically and internationally. Approximately 15–20 percent of students participate annually.
Retreats Retreats—many of them voluntary— play an important role during all four years of a Xavier student’s life. Through reflection, conversation, small group discussion, prayer, and other group and personal experiences, students come to better know themselves, the Xavier community, and God. More than 90% of the junior class elects to make a Kairos retreat, while 40% of seniors elect to participate in one or more of their optional retreat opportunities. JROTC Thirty-seven percent of students choose to participate in JROTC. Xavier’s JROTC Regiment has maintained the coveted Gold Star distinction for the past 20 years.
