School Profile Mission Founded in 1847, Xavier High School is an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school in New York City that educates intelligent, motivated young men of diverse backgrounds and means. Xavier teaches students to take responsibility for their lives, to lead with integrity, to act justly in service of others, to pursue excellence in every endeavor and to deepen their relationship with God. Ultimately, Xavier forms young men who will go forth to transform the world for God’s greater glory.
Accreditations and Affiliations Xavier High School is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The school is chartered and registered by the Regents of the University of the State of New York. Xavier is a member of the Jesuit Schools Network, the National Catholic Education Association, and the Guild of Independent Schools of New York.

Advanced Placement Policy Students are selected for AP classes based on a combination of prerequisites, including their current GPA in the subject and teacher recommendations. In two subjects (English and Calculus), a placement exam is required. The maximum number of AP courses a student can take in a single academic year is three, unless otherwise approved by the Dean of Academics.

Ignatian Scholars This very selective program admits the top 40 incoming freshmen on average each year. During freshman and sophomore year, Ignatian Scholars enroll in Honors English, history, and science. They must maintain a GPA of 85 or higher average to remain in the program.
