SPORT RECREATION CENTER CLIENT:

Xiaohe street Community

This project creates a new community centre that can support surrounding residents and compliment tourism to the Xiaohe historic district in Hangzhou. Design strategy involves recycling and reuse of the existing silos in the project site. The proposed community centre has a sport recreational focus and thus it provide a place for people to relax and de-stress from daily work by doing exercise and relaxing with their family. The community centre is designed to fit within the large factory site creating a memory of both old function and new adaptation, creating an ambience of rebirth and rejuvenation in both spaces and expressions.

The dotted line shows the site area.

The colors indicates different functions. The green one means sport center The purple color represents restaurant; The blue one is children center.

The main population come to this site are from the road and the river bank.

The position of the silos are decided based on the function of entrances and view site.

Based on the circulation I formed the building shape. For each circulation, people will get through two different squares.

The bridge leads the people in the children center and the restaurant to the riverside.

WATER TOWN CLIENT:

Xiaohe Street Community

The focus of this project in the historic area of Hangzhou was to design homes and small business that allow a group of nine friends to settle in and to make a living. Key consideration during the design process was about exploring a way to transform traditional spaces and its life style to contemporary spaces that are appropriate for modern community. Thus big courtyard and narrow alleyways were adapted to this new development to encourage interaction and develop a close-knit community. Homes were surrounded by pool to enhance the feeling of water town and its scale.

ENTRANCE PERSPECTIVE The bridge connects the main road and the square for tourist, which can enhance the feeling of water town. The residential area is blocked by the water but visual communication is encouraged in this way. The pitched roof and timber materials are transformed in some way to give the identity of this historic area.
