We live in an essentially transient society, in spaces
designed to be permanent. This project examines paradigms of community and home that embraces temporary conditions, through a solution for refugee populations transitioning to new lives in urban contexts. The proposal: temporary structures adaptable across sites, mobile and compostable as a response to our ephemeral needs.

Following the age of technology and the interconnectivity
between users, one’s perception of boundaries is skewed when considering the virtual scale of the speed of information. One’s physical experience of geographical boundaries is now compressed as information and data access becomes integrated into our daily lives. The boundaries between physical, visual and virtual no longer are separate entities but instead are blurred and eliminating the rigid threshold between the two parallels. The project focuses on conveying materiality so one can be relieved from the constraints of physical boundaries and a seamless transition into the limitless realm of their own imagination. This is conveyed through the experimentations of three-dimensional planes that one can occupy and contrasting it with a two- dimensional language in which follows the three-dimensional forms.

The library acts as an area of spatial intersection in
which to provide a smooth transition from virtual information exchange to physical communication spaces. Bedford library especially, is a space for the diverse Bedford community to interact and collaborate together to create a learning and creative space. Knowledge between physical and virtual co-exist in the library, the design aims to act as an informative network which allows balance between both discipline and facilitate knowledge in order to encourage growth for learning in teenagers.

The workspace design of the Urban Justice Center (UJC) encapsulates the spirit of the neighborhood as well as highlighting the important practices of the organization. As the UJC handles sensitive cases with urgency, the design proposal seeks to create intimate boundaries through apertures at differing scales. The design acts as a place of connectivity with its undulating structure and overlapping density that provides a variety of spaces for privacy gradient as well as open and shared spaces for the professionals who work in the office. The gridded system offers a dialogue between the existing grid of the building and in response to that are these textured curvatures that interrupts the existing rigid language through its softness and translucency. The spatial strategy allows users to experience layers of boundaries according to the movement of curvatures and the enclosure it creates through changing densities.
