CITIC SQAURE SHANGHAI K OKAI 2020-2021 I am accountable for overseeing all SD and DD studies for the west parcel, collaborating closely with the LDI to address technical issues. In this renovation project we transformed a twenty-year old shopping mall into a modern lifestyle destination. By breaking up the mall’s boxy silhouette through seemingly floating pixels, the new architecture complements its historic surroundings. The design approach of breaking up the big-box mall continues inside the spaces, where a formerly vast atrium is now dissected by a mezzanine. The platform creates two distinct atmospheres, signalling shoppers’ journey between fashion below and F&B above.

SUHE CRLAND MIXC SHANGHAI K OKAI 2019 - 2021
I am accountable for overseeing all SD and DD studies for the west parcel, collaborating closely with the LDI to address technical issues. The project’s starting point was rethinking commercial spaces to better integrate with their surroundings. The resulting ‘Urban Valley’ presents a brand-new public space in the city and sets a new benchmark for Shanghai. Inside the mall, two enclosed areas have been designed to physically and visually connect with the site’s significant culture heritage, Shenyu Li and Thean Hou Temple. The commercial space located directly below is succinctly integrated with the historic heritage on the ground floor and compactly locates the entrance, axis and underground public atrium.

MUXIN MUSEUM WUZHEN O L I AR CH 2011-2015
Phto From Boat On River
I participated in the Design Development phase of the Muxin Art Museum, overseeing the detailed design and construction preparation of the curtain wall. Additionally, I manage the arrangement of exhibits within the museum. The builiding is located in Muxin’s hometown, a city located by the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Muxin, was a complex and inspiring figure, he was not only a celebrated artist of abstract landscapes and paintings but equally accomplished as a scholar, poet and writer. Taking a cue from the urban fabric of the 1000 year old ancient water town of Mu Xin’s childhood, the museum itself is a landscape of intersecting experiences. A series of colored architectural concrete volumes in varying sectional relationship to the canal and “street”.

KURIOSITY K11 STORE SHANGHAI O L I AR CH 2018-2019
Photo View From Public Corridor
I actively contributed to the Schematic Design and Design Development stages. My focus included studying a multifunctional layout tailored to various scenes and exploring the design of a transformable display counter to meet diverse requirements. Kuriosity comprises an online retail platform linked to this first physical store showcasing a selection of fashion, design, artisanal products and art work. More than a typical retail store, Kuriosity is designed as a curated experience of discovery where products on display are supplemented with an additional layer of rich interactive media serving to attract and engage with the customer. Kuriosity’s iconic infinity box window display changes colour to attract and when customers walk by, hidden products in boxes behind the seemingly infinite glass portal lights up inviting them to step in.

As the lead in charge of both SD and DD development aligned with the original conceptual design, I successfully orchestrate and guide the team to fulfill client requirements at every stage of the project. Concurrently, I assume responsibility for all technical aspects. The site which delivers the optimum is that which successfully combines traditional and contemporary retail in one environment, encompassing exterior and interior. A new moment: creating a destination that stands the test of time a new movement: a momentous gathering of energy & motion. A destination that merges past, present and future

I am accountable for seamless coordination with clients and LDI throughout all project stages. I adeptly present the project concept to clients and other consultants, addressing design and technical issues. Guiding the team to the project’s final stage, I also collaborate with material suppliers to analyze special details. MixC’s defining concept and ongoing underlying theme is the exploration of in-between spaces and the relationship between materiality and derived emotion. Explored on an architectural level through columns, dramatic escalators and meeting planes of light; and emotionally through navigational intuition. The morphing of spaces initiates an extensive reconfiguration of geometry, layouts and flow for a seamless and optimal dialogue between atriums, concessions, brand mixes and circulation spaces to be reached.

Basement Atrium
As the lead overseeing all CD, SD design, and DD development for the Basement area, I guide the team in extensive research on traditional materials in Shanghai and their incorporation into the project. This involves close coordination with material suppliers and an in-depth study of special materials, details, and construction skills. At XTD Gallery Mall, these various components come together to create an atmosphere of escape from the bustle of city life, in which leisure and relaxation are paramount. Comprising materials and finishes to evoke a Shanghai Goldon Era, and taking direct inspiration from its heritage environment, the resulting interiors set a new standard for commercial spaces in China, and beyond.

SILK EMBROIDERY ART MUSEUM

O L I AR CH 2016 - 2018
I am responsible for overseeing both the Schematic Design and Design Development stages. Additionally, I collaborated with artist Dan Liu on the courtyard design and played a key role in facilitating negotiations and communication between clients, the government, and the LDI. The China Silk Embroidery Art Museum is located on the west side of Suzhou, China, housing a UNESCO World Heritage Garden and Wang Ao Temple. With the exception of a few large-scale public buildings, the context is residential and richly historic with the history of Suzhou’s embroidery art. The design for the museum distinguishes architectural volumes by different programmatic functions, allocating exhibition space to the Southeast while locating reception functions to the West. Entering through a gate, visitors pass through a glass reception pavilion before circulating through the galleries of artifacts and masterpieces, following the sequential steps of embroidery production: from embroidery design to silk dying, weaving, and mounting for display.
