One Cheongsam Studio Co-founder & Service Designer

"One Cheongsam studio believes every young girl should have One cheongsam in their closet. We aim to design fashion cheongsam for Chinese young girl and to provide new experience of purchasing cheongsam."



Insight Cheongsam is a kind of Chinese traditional dress. It was honoured as Chinese quintessence and national costume in China.


Unfortunately, it is slowly disappering from people's horizon over the years. Today, it normally could only be seen in the movies.


Ethnographic Research Cultural Group

Methodology

Chinese young women (18-30 years old)

Participant-Observation, Interview, Oral histories

Globalization This cultural group was obviously influenced by globalization. For example, they use foreign products, watch foreign TV program and study foreign language. They live in a mixed cultural environment.

Traditional Culture This cultural group miss some Chinese traditional culture. For example, most of this group people could not understand Chinese traditional drama, and they are not family with sinology.

Dressing This cultural group perfer to wear fashionable dress. They are family with latest international fashion trends, so the internation fashion brands are popular in this group. Only a few of girl was family with Chinese tradiotional dress.

Because the customized manufacturing process would cost a long time and expensive price, we used Common Template to improve this situation. The Cheongsam would be pre-manufacture into Common template, including Small, Middle and Large size Common Template. When user order online and send personal body data to us, we could manufacture the Cheongsam based on the common template. It only cost one or two days to finish. The whole purchasing process could be completed within 5 days.

Insight Today, a lot of varied stationeries are available for us to select. There are also a lot of varied pen holders the available in market.


However, every one person has different needs for pen holder. It is hard to find perfect one.

Vermeiren User Manual Summer internship, Individual work

Vermeiren User Manual is a instruction of Vermeiren manual wheelchair accessory designed for elderly people. This case has been adopted by the Vermeiren (Suzhou) Medical Equipment Co Ltd.



Insight Due to the growing age, the vision of elderly people will gradually decline. They need to use some tools to see the normal text that young could view.


Current user manual of Vermeiren wheelchair is hard to view and understand by elderly people.


Research Literature Review

Big size and line space text and high contrast ratio picture are suitable for elderly people reading.

Interview

"When we see the normal user manual, it is hard to view and understand. If we have some problem about the product, we only ask my child to help me."

Observation

1. They perfer to see the big size text. 2. They could easily understand drawing compare with text. 3. They usually use some tool to help read.

1. The components indicated by the different numbers are hard to understand for elderly people 2. The size of most indicating arrows are too small, it is hard to view. 3. The installation process is hard to understand, and some complex process only one illustration to indicate.

Explicit directions Using big arrows to instead of thin arrows, elderly people could easily achieve explicit information.

This project is a conceptual consulting project. BAQ shopping mall is a urban complex that integrates retail, entertainment, sports, catering and business. It aims to break the gap between communities and brings the new shopping experience to people.
