NATURE CONJUNCTION Urban Complex Urban complex near a park and a sort of historical buildings

Shanghai, China

168000m2

2019.Spring

BACKGROUND Sichuan North Road, as a commercial street, has a long history. But in the last 5 years, it went downhill sharply due to fierce competition. START POINT Compared with other commercial districts, Sichuan North Road has the advantage that it not only has a good landscape orientation, but also a story-telling street that has witnessed many historical events and characters.

PROJECT STATEMENT

By analyzing the living environment and business conditions around the site, combined with these characteristics of landscape and culture, we designed two main streamlines that are independent and intersect each other with the concept of “cultural green vein” and “commercial loop”. We hope that guests can feel the charm of nature, culture and business in the complex. The design of the high-level design also runs through the concept of "intersection". By rotating layer by layer, the two axes are condensed while pursuing the best landscape. The two towers are closely connected.

The volume of the site was determined by the penetration of the site between Si chuan North Road and Tian'ai Road. Set up a large-scale entrance and exit on Sichuan North Road, and set up a near-human scale facility and interface in Tian'ai Road.

LANDSCAPE

COVERAGE

Introducing the landscape of Lu Xun Park, by designing the landscape park on the internal path, the attention of the people is directed to the Lixiang style district on the south side, that is, constructing the second axis: the axis of nature and culture.

High-rise buildings are rotated by mass, echoing the natural axis of rotation while obtaining a better and more flexible landscape orientation.

The landscape is deepened and greening is placed on the rotating edge of the upper level to highlight the natural axis.

The low poly polygonal hems cover the gradual movement along the natural axis, while suggesting the guiding direction of the commercial axis.

Community museum based on a site with traditional houses

Shanghai, China 1650m2 2018.Fall

Suzhou Museum by I.M.Pei

BACKGROUND The contemporary museum is a bridge between historical culture and city life, and it is the expansion of the urban experience range. For a community, the Folklore Museum is a non-profit cultural institution that carries out preservation, research, display, and exchange as the main resources of the community ’s natural and cultural heritage. The uniqueness and compoundness of community culture is the cornerstone of community identification. START POINT In drawing on Chinese classical gardens, Mr. I.M.Pei has made excellent demonstrations. I have studied the yard design of some Chinese classical gardens. I hope that I can make my own exploration and thinking in this aspect.

NRIGHBORHOOD Shanghai Hongkou Port Riverside Urban Design

START POINT There is a coherent and stretched interface along the street in the base, but the blocks here are broken and disordered. Maintaining the interface, increasing permeability and accessibility, and establishing a new block order were three important goals of my design.

CITY TEXTURE

SURROUNDINGS

The complete and stretched interface along the street.

The corner of Daming Road, Lushun Road, the building facade has many levels and complex.

The scale of the interface on both sides of Hongkou Port is close, but there is no hydrophilic platform.

The inside of the flood control wall is narrow and narrow, without urban space and public life.

Looking along the Nanxun Road towards the river, it is highly permeable but lacks landscape appeal.

CELL GENERATION

High and narrow scales inside traditional buildings.

From the original plot texture, the basic units that constitute the block are abstracted and derived to adapt to different site conditions.

Status of historically protected buildings.

Setting up the inner courtyard Combine with point buildings Control the orientation and arm length to create a continuous public space (such as high-rise towers) courtyard on the waterfront Different plots should have basic units of different forms and sizes according to their function and area. A courtyard with a strong sense of enclosure can shape multiple levels of urban public space. "Road-square-yard", in this system, the stayability and privacy of urban space increase. In addition, the courtyard can make the building itself have a good landscape orientation and welcoming face. The current riverside walkway on the north side of the site,

SITE ANALYSIS Existing Street Profile

PROJECT STRATEGY Build Order

The building floor on the north side is lower than the main road, which is not conducive to the formation of a commercial interface.

Traffic Analysis

The flood control wall is too rigid, blocking the line of sight and waterfront space, and the facade of the traditional building cluster has not been expressed. Two-way driving lane Spare fire lane One-way lane Sidewalk

Highly Analyzed

The waterfront trail is only functional, there is no certain function to match the space, and the utilization efficiency is low. Black and White Texture Map

POWER OF ROADS Suburban Design Future suburban community system design

Ames, Iowa, the USA

16000m2

2020.Spring

START POINT The purpose of this project is to examine contemporary suburbia and design a more effective plan for the future. Our team examined emerging technologies and changing economic trends; to see how these could challenge the assumptions and demands of modern suburban living. Central for our design is the development of the self-driving car. We feel that the scale and the function of cars will change, and thus refers to them as Autonomous Vehicles, as they will not only transport people but also do deliveries, facilitate services, provide amenities, as well as commodities in a new gig economy.

The autonomous system, thanks to the Internet-based sharing economy, can serve residents in a highly customized manner, nursing implants, and deliver materials. The mobility of the function brings a high degree of freedom in construction. Residents can design houses, share plots and greening according to their own preferences.

COMUNITY CORE AND ZOO The community core is a key feature that is centralized and connects the three different sections of the neighborhood while being accessible to the public. The community core leverages the neighborhood’s flood zone by turning it into a revenue-generating zoo, anchored by hubs that provide neighborhood services and access to the area. This public zoo offers a place of sanctuary for rescued animals and serves as one of the neighborhood’s main attractions. Permanent and temporary nodes lie within the community core. These hubs have different possibilities.

ISOLATION Concept Video

https://vimeo.com/423873235 2020.Spring

Isolation, or isolation between people, is diverse. Rigid isolation can define spaces and shape different places and light. Flexible isolation can blur the boundaries and create an ambiguous and restrained atmosphere. At present, we are in an era that requires us to isolate ourselves physically and psychologically. Perhaps in the future, this trend will intensify, and double isolation will make humans a highly independent individual. At the same time, expressions and interpersonal relationships will evolve into new forms. Everyone's head is starry sky, and everyone will have a complete world deep inside. I have expressed different forms of isolation, but I hope that the audience will notice the connection contained in the isolation: light communicates the isolated space through the gap or the curtain. Hopefully, in the future, the connection between humans will not be just a signal in the circuit. Looking at the starry sky above us, humanity is one.

Act I: Mechanical installation and metal room, this is a cold physical isolation. But as long as there are gaps, light will always penetrate. Act II: The empty space and the falling curtain are an ambiguous psychological isolation. They are close to each other, but infinitely far away. Act III: This is truly eternal isolation. Everyone is closed to the outside, and the selfsufficiency of material and energy eliminates the necessity of contact. The signal is transmitted in the circuit while people are sleeping.
