About the ebook In this introduction to Twitter ebook we build on a couple of the last ebooks. We introduced the concept of knowing your target audience and discussed some strategies to employ on Social Media and in another ebook we did an overview of the top 5 social media networks. Today we want to dive in and discuss Twitter speci cally.
Background Twitter is a top social networking site that allows users to communicate and send information in 280 characters or less. You can retweet or share status updates, reply to comments, or use hashtag labels to keep track of conversations surrounding different topics. As of January 2021, over 192 million people use Twitter on a daily basis, with 20% of adults in the US accessing Twitter at least once per month. Over 70% of Twitter users say they use the platform to get their news. The platform has a 54% to 43% male to female split in the US noticeably lower than overall, 70% to 30%.

Although Twitter is a seemingly simple platform, the powerful communication and promotion this social media platform can produce can be astounding. Twitter posts create real-time conversations and news from a diverse range of individuals, searchable status updates, and the ability to tag followers in posts to alert them to your messages. Twitter has become one of the most powerful social media platforms of our time. Since its 2013 IPO, Twitter has brought several new advertising services to the market, including Conversion Tracking and Tailored Audiences. These branding features help businesses connect with potential customers across multiple devices. Nowadays, Twitter offers a platform to easily connect with the most in uential people in your industry. Thousands of authors, entrepreneurs, marketers, and more are offering value and connecting with all kinds of users. Even if you are new to Twitter, you can still build a connection with leaders who have hundreds (or millions of followers)! It is a slow process, but if you regularly follow our Twitter action tips below, your practice will be much better positioned as an authority.

Strategies to Connect with Industry Leaders on Twitter 1. Listen. On Twitter, everyone is talking. The simple short form makes it easy to post, therefore there is more of it. Take the time to use Twitter as a listening tool. Listen to the conversations related to your eld, and you’ll be better equipped to contribute when you feel comfortable. One way to do this is, would be to search for and follow other users in your eld or who speak about your niche. 2. Engage with users. Now that you have listened to Twitter, follow some users. Check out who they follow, and then retweet them back by using the “@” symbol in addition to their username to tag them in statuses. Join designated Twitter Chats by searching for hashtags to participate in larger conversations around a speci c topic. Once you feel comfortable, you can create your own Twitter Chat. Active participation and responding to tweets will help you better understand your audience’s needs. 3. Share relevant content.

Contribute to the narrative of your industry by sharing informative articles or points you yourself know. Leverage your expertise and knowledge! You will also want to utilize hashtags so that users nd your valuable Twitter content, even if you aren’t targeting them speci cally. Feel free to share your own crafted content as well, as long as it is related to your target audience. 4. Be consistent with your updates. Similar to a blog, posting to your Twitter stream on a regular basis when you start tweeting is crucial to increasing your number of followers. How often you post is up to you and your business. While posting at a higher frequency is correlated with an increased Twitter following, we advise you to be as active as you can on a consistent basis. 5. Follow who your leaders follow. Following who your leaders, or in uencers follow is important in order to target your business’s audience. This tactic puts into perspective what your leaders value and allows you to provide similar content and insights. As an added bonus, mention these top in uencers in Twitter status updates and retweet their content. Talk to them, thank them, and engage in conversations. *BONUS*: Use Twitter Search Twitter Search is a heavily underestimated feature of Twitter. Think about it: you can nd in uencers and search terms in real-time. With Twitter Search, look up queries with keywords related to your practice and pinpoint exactly who you want to connect with. 6. Set up Twitter Lists Because your Twitter feed can get overwhelming at times, this nifty feature allows you to transform your feed into lists. The list can be made of in uencers, individuals who retweet your posts, people who attend industry events, and more. This kind of organization allows you to weed out irrelevant posts. 7. Include Videos in Your Tweets People are highly visual, and with video the draw can be ever stronger. How effective is video? Research has shown that over 80% of Twitter users engage with video content. Be careful about graphic content, however.

It is a question I hear often, the simple answer is yes, it can make sense for anyone; any business. That isn’t quite the right question though. To determine if you should dedicate time to Twitter versus other social media platforms, you need to ask yourself a few questions. The st is, do I already use Twitter? If you already are familiar and use it personally, it stands to reason you could be successful using it for business. One of the biggest measures of success in just about anything is how much you have to motivate yourself to do it. Already being a Twitter user will make it more likely you will continue to do so, albeit with a twist. The second would be in looking at the average user & content. Twitter that tends male, is used more than others for B2B, 42% have a higher degree, and well more than half of the users are between 25-49. If this falls in line with your target client, Twitter may be your platform. Using this type of evaluation will help you on AVERAGE help you nd your audience with less weeding. As you can tell, part of my recommendation is to nd the tide and roll with it.
