Fun Learning & Confidence Building

Learning English with Xplore For most parents, learning English is the top priority when booking a summer camp with Xplore. That’s why the focus is always on improving the language skills. Our English lessons are already included in the price and take place five days a week in level assessed, internationally mixed classrooms. We want all students to have a fun and exhilarating language experience. That’s why classes are aimed at being a modern, activity based learning experience whilst combining fundamentals such as spelling, grammar and vocabulary studies with fun exercises. Improving language skills does not stop outside the classroom. With students coming to camp from all over the world, English is used as the common language for everyone throughout the day. Our native speaking staff motivate and encourage all students to speak English and we are very successful in improving student’s confidence in using their English skills. It is also important for you to know that Xplore is one of the language schools approved by ABLS – one of the UK Border Agency approved bodies. This means that Xplore meets the standard requirements in the areas of care, safety and security and delivers quality English courses.

The majority of students will stay with us ‘residentially’. You will be staying on site for the duration of your stay and join us to experience the local areas on our prearranged excursions. Our Language Camps in England are based exclusively in prestigious private boarding schools. All of them are chosen for their excellent facilities including well-equipped classrooms and computer rooms; brilliant sports facilities, theatres and cozy common rooms to create your perfect holiday! At our International Summer Camp in Sauerland, Germany you will find yourself staying in a holiday village with eight students sharing a house, en-suite bathrooms and lounge. Hachen has great facilities for all those who love sport with an indoor pool, climbing wall, sports hall and nearby lake. In the USA, your accommodation will depend on whether you are staying with us residentially on our Asheville Campus, through a host family or extending your stay with one of our add-ons where you will stay in a hotel. Regardless of which programme you choose – you will always receive 24-hour care. In China, you will be staying in the Cambridge International Centre of Fuyuan School, which usually holds up to 4000 students. Situated

6  │ www.xplorelanguage.com

in Shenzhen, this large boarding complex contains 4 to 6 bedded rooms with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and laundry facilities.

Day Camps Most of our English camps are available for Day Camps. Day Campers will be able to attend Monday to Friday on our activity programme and can request English lessons but will not stay on site overnight. An appealing alternative for those families who are spending the Summer in England and looking for a combination of Activity camp, family holiday and even learning some English. For more information on our Day Camps, please visit our website www.xplorelanguage.com

Comfort All of our centres offer excellent facilities, some with their own rivers, swimming pools, climbing walls and first class sports facilities but please do not expect the luxury of five star hotel when staying with us. In England, you’ll be staying in the rooms of the boarding school students, which are simply furnished and clean with toilets and showers located in the same level as your room. In English boarding schools more focus is put on the classrooms and sports facilities allowing you to have the best experience of camp! Please do not be disappointed if you do not find a deluxe suite and you may even have to share a closet. As English students wear school uniform, they require less space than you may do for your stay with us. Some of our camps do not have en-suite bathrooms so will require you to share with other campers, but don’t worry they are not far away! If you are staying with a host family in the USA, their house may not be what you are used too but we do ask that you appreciate that the host family is opening their doors for you and sharing their life and country whilst you experience an amazing holiday. Always remember that it is not about the accommodation that you will be staying in, it is about creating memories and experiences that you will never forget and making friends that will last a lifetime!

International

Mix

When travelling to England and the USA, our camps will house students from all over the world, especially during the summer. In recent years, we have welcomed students from over 20 different nationalities and what better to learn about other cultures whilst having fun on holiday!

It’s amazing how groups and individuals from different nationalities with different ways of thinking mix together. I learned a lot, not only English but also how to think outside the box. Woodbridge is the best place where you can live a mix of all cultures in this wonderful country, England. Amir Elsayed, Egypt

We promise to provide 100 percent of an English environment throughout our camps, with our English courses being taught by ‘Native Speakers’ alongside our activity programme. In England and the USA, local students also participate in our programmes encouraging everyone to speak English even outside the classroom. Our International Camp in Sauerland is popular with students from Spain, Italy and even as far afield as Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand. They come to camp to build on their knowledge of German and have German students to communicate with in their leisure time. This centre is bilingual, with English and German courses being taught by ‘Native Speakers’. In Shenzhen, the Chinese students are looking forward to meeting the International students that will join them this summer. You will live together in the summer camp and support each other whilst learning Mandarin and helping improve their English. As a result of different nationalities, cultures and personalities coming together, we are able to provide a unique atmosphere that broadens knowledge and gives you an international friendship for life!

8  │ www.xplorelanguage.com

Our time passed too quickly. Maybe because of the funny staff members, maybe because of the activities, or the new friends we made... Together it has made this camp a great experience that nobody should miss!

Paula Rodiguez & Paula Lopez, Spain

Worksop College offers a great opportunity to meet new people and enjoy yourself! It was the best week I’ve ever had! I met loads of people who I still talk to even though they are in different countries. All the staff are really friendly and great to talk to! Sam Burford-Eyre, England

Care The care of our students is of upmost importance to us. This allows us to create a comfortable atmosphere throughout camp and the reassurance to parents and students that we are happy to help! Staff at our camps will be your point of contact for any queries that you may have. More than just a job To us, our staff are employed for more than just a job. We select them very carefully to make sure they can deliver a safe, caring and fun trip away from home. This job requires energy and commitment and our staff take great pride in helping children and young people have an unforgettable experience. They are the contact for all concerns whether they are big or small, no matter what age. They understand the importance of freedom and fun for the different ages but respect that there are rules that need to be followed.

Application and Selection All our staff are carefully selected through our recruitment process. The process is more than just filling in an application form. We host ‘Selection Days’ to invite all new applicants to join us in a day of team building and interviews. This gives us the chance

10  │ www.xplorelanguage.com

to get to know the applicants personally and assess their interaction in a group. The best candidates are asked to join us for a training week where they are trained in the responsibilities of their specific job role. This also gives us a chance to check their references and criminal record, which is very important to us. This process allows us to chose the best team by combining our experienced staff who have already worked for us, with fresh faces who provide new ideas and inspiration. They are placed at the centres that best suit their expertise and personality. Our supervisor-student ratio is very important to us and is 1:12 for those aged 9 and above and 1:8 for those under, allowing staff and students to interact in small groups.

The Team Centre Manager

Centre Managers are experienced members of staff who have worked for us previously. They are in charge of the centre organisation and staff management.

Language Teacher

Your teachers will be ‘Native Speakers’ who have special training in English, German or Mandarin to be able to give you the best language education possible. They will get involved in all aspects of the camp and are available for support on excursions and activities.

Camp Leader

Our Camp Leaders make sure that you get up in the morning, don’t forget meal times and go to bed at a decent time. They are the main contact for you and ensure that you have the care and support that you need from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

Activity Instructor

These staff members will have enthusiasm, skills and qualifications that allow our activities to run smoothly through organisation and varying the sessions on a daily basis. Their expertise enhances the activities, free time, team games and evening entertainment.

Tour Guide

They are locals who will join you on excursion days and know the area. They will provide an informative and exciting tour of the city that you are visiting.

Terms and Conditions Dear Parents, For us it is very important that your child’s holiday will be fun and a great success in every aspect. We promise that we will take care of your child at all times, ensuring that they have a safe and enjoyable experience. The following are our booking terms and conditions, please be sure to read them carefully and contact us should you have any questions: 1. Our benefits Our benefits correspond to the description in our brochure, our website as well as the travel documents, especially the booking confirmation. All package prices quoted in this brochure are inclusive of accommodation, meals, on-site activities and any applicable external activities including necessary transportation thereto. Programmes are subject to alteration for reasons of safety or inclement weather. We always provide a suitable replacement in such circumstances. A supplement is payable for extra courses or activities only as defined in this brochure. You are welcome to inform us of any special requirements prior to your child’s arrival and we will do everything possible to fulfil these, but cannot give any guarantee. Any alterations or additions to your booking with Xplore may be made in writing or by telephoning 01449 742700. Xplore reserves the right to make an administration charge in such circumstances. All prices shown are also inclusive of VAT calculated under the Tour Operators Margin Scheme. Due to this special VAT scheme we are unable to issue invoices showing an exact VAT breakdown and customers will not be able to reclaim VAT against charges from Xplore. Should the VAT regulations change after the time of going to press Xplore reserves the right to surcharge or refund the consequent price difference. 2. Booking and contract By sending us the signed booking form or by making a booking online or by phone you enter into a contract, which is binding as soon as you receive the booking confirmation from us. The “contractual partner” is the person responsible for the booking, also for third party bookings. 3. Payment After receiving your booking we will send you a booking confirmation and ask you to pay a deposit of 15% of the total holiday cost. The final payment is then due after receiving the travel documents but no later than 21 days before commencement of the holiday. If you make a booking within four weeks of the commencement date of your holiday then payment must be made in full at the time of the booking. Any bank charges must be met by the person responsible for the booking. 4. Passport, visa and health regulations Participants must be in possession of valid passport documents and are responsible for the observation of border regulations. 5. Cancellation The person responsible for booking may cancel the holiday prior to its commencement. Following charges will be applied: Holidays in England: • Cancellation up to 4 weeks before commencement date: 15% of total holiday cost • Cancellation up to 1 week before commencement date: 30% of total holiday cost • Cancellation 6 days and less before commencement date: 45% of total holiday cost

All other holidays: • Cancellation up to 8 weeks before commencement date: 30% of total holiday cost • Cancellation up to 4 weeks before commencement date: 50% of total holiday cost • Cancellation 6 days and less before commencement date: 80% of total holiday cost These flat rates already account for saved expenses and otherwise applied travel benefits. It is left to the customer to verify that in the case of cancellation no or lower expenses were incurred. With cancellations after the commencement of the holiday we reserve the right to keep the full amount paid. However we will compensate any saved expenses. 6. Cancellation through Xplore If the child disturbs the accomplishment of the holiday or behaves contrary to the contract, we reserve the right to cancel the contract immediately. In this case any claims for compensation are excluded. Additional costs such as for flights are at the expense of the customer. We also reserve the right to charge the parent/ guardian for any damages/breakages that the child is deemed to have caused not as a result of an accident. If we have to make a major change to your holiday, we will offer a suitable alternative if available, or 100% refund, if we are not able, in our opinion, to offer an alternative that is sufficiently comparable. If the accomplishment of the holiday is affected due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to war, riot, civil commotion, terrorism, act of God, industrial dispute, Government action, epidemic disease, adverse weather or natural disaster, Xplore as well as the customer are able to terminate the contract. Xplore will refund the holiday cost less the expenses, which have already been made. 7. Liability Xplore carries all legally required insurance affecting its customers and employees. These include public liability protection to the value of £5 million. Our liability for damages, not including bodily injury is limited to 3 x the complete holiday price, unless we or the organisation have not caused the damage deliberately or negligently. We are usually not liable for damage of personal valuables, with the exception of where we have been officially asked to take care of items. 8. Guarantee Xplore guarantees your holiday will be as shown in the brochure description. Shall we not fulfil these benefits you are entitled to demand remedial action as long as the effort is still reasonable. In the case of any complaints we ask you to inform the local staff members and Xplore staff members in our offices in England and Germany immediately. If we do not take remedial action within an appropriate time you are entitled to cancel the contract without prior notice. Irrespective of a cancellation you are entitled to demand compensation for us not fulfilling our guarantee, unless this is due to circumstances we cannot take responsibility for. 9. Limitation Any claims regarding the contract must be made no later than one month after the termination of the holiday. Your right for claims is limited to one year starting one day after the termination of the holiday. Claims resulting from unauthorised or illegal action (for instance, assault) must be made within three years after the termination of the holiday. 10. Privacy policy Your privacy is very important to us. We save and use your personal data for any kind of correspondence and in order to offer our services in the future only. Your data will not be passed on to a third party. By sending us your personal data

and accepting the terms and conditions you confirm to agree with the usage of personal data. You have the right to withdraw your agreement at any time by informing us in writing. Furthermore, you have the right to obtain information on data saved about you. In this case please contact us. Occasionally Xplore may take photographs of children for promotional material. Please advise one of our offices if you have any objections to this. 11.
