Speech Showcase On January 14, Speech hosted their annual Speech Showcase to prepare for Districts the following Saturday, January 19. 74 students performed the shows they have been practicing since the beginning of November. They presented in front of their friends and family in the RegisLaSalle Theatre and choir room. “I love Speech because I am able to express myself through my performances,” junior Chris Bauer said. There are 16 categories ranging from Musical Theater to TV News Broadcast. The group is doing classics such as Grease and Annie. They are also performing the One Act Play Stranger Than Fiction and the Choral Reading Tell Tale Heart. “I’m in musical theater. I get to sing and dance, which is what I love to do,” sophomore Michaela Brown said. The Speech Showcase was
a dress rehearsal and a way for the different groups to see each other perform. “Many of the students involved in speech never get a chance to see one another perform-this way, they can,” English teacher Lisa Streif said. Streif is a speech coach along with Scott Davidson and Laura Travagiakis, who do not teach at Xavier. The students use the Speech Showcase as a way to prepare for Districts. At Districts, performers get the chance to qualify for State. “Speech helps build my confidence in front of a crowd,” junior Hannah Becker said. Xavier Speech will be going to Monticello for Districts on Saturday, January 19. Payton Janney A&E Writer
