September 9, 2013 Dear Parents, The decision to send your son or daughter to Xavier High School may have been a tough decision or it may have been very easy. Yes, there is tuition. Yes, you could be spending that money on another important purchase for your child. But you chose here. Let me tell you, do not have any doubt that your investment in your son or daughter’s future will not produce a “return.” If your child buys into what Xavier has to offer, they will have success in high school and beyond.
In my time at Xavier, I have seen many people grow spiritually, academically, and physically. Spiritually, we have learned more about our faith in classes and have gone on retreats to learn about ourselves, others, and God, so we overall are closer to God. Academically, we have been challenged, and the results of this have been outstanding. Graduation rates are off the charts, ACT scores are above average, teachers care about us as though we were their own kids, and success in the classroom is a shared goal. Physically, we are challenged by our coaches and instructors and taught life lessons, namely 1) teamwork 2) do your job 3) toughness 4) win. Xavier is an unbelievable place, and I would not want to be anywhere else. Yes, your son or daughter might complain about the amount of homework or about the amount of time they spend at their practices. Don’t let them give you excuses or make excuses for them. Be there for moral support, but don’t do their work for them or let them take a day off. Xavier is a challenge; it’s not easy. But if your child buys in and tries to get better everyday, they will have the most enjoyable and rewarding four years of their lives. This is an opportunity of a lifetime. Seize it.

Parents are welcome to attend Eucharistic Adoration in the Chapel every Friday at 7 a.m. Students can get into any home sporting event for free with their lunch cards. Freshmen share the front parking lot with sophomores. The Saint Shop is open during home games and on Fridays from 11-1. A new wave of technology, Xavier iPads This year, the students of Xavier received new technology. Gone are the requirements for pencils and pens, and in are the needs for styluses and keyboards. iPads have become a new facet of Xavier, making the school a Digital Learning Environment (DLE). Students have become the user of a new iPad, which was provided by the high school. Xavier administration views these devices as aids in preparation for future careers. “We live in a device world,”
What parents should know about the new iPads:
principal Tom Keating said. “It’s up to us to teach our students how to use their iPads in a work environment. Then they are prepared to use them in their future endeavors.” The iPads contain multiple apps for learning advancement to help with this goal. If a student experiences problems with his/her iPad, Xavier has the solution. First, take it to an Xpert. Xperts are Xavier students who are fully versed in the ways of the iPad. They are available during most hours of the school day in the
LMC lab. If an Xpert cannot fix the problem, check with Mrs. Wallraff or Ms. Olson. If the solution takes a while, the student will be given a loaner iPad until the issue is solved. iPads are a new feature of the school, and it is up to everyone to make it a positive experience. “I believe the iPads benefit everyone who is a part of Xavier,” senior Xpert Nicholas Mlodzik said. “Parents should definitely support their kids in this new wave of technology. Maybe they’ll even learn something in the process!”
1. iPads need to be charged every night in order to maintain full battery. 2. Required apps are already on the iPad, but students are free to download any others. 3. Keyboards are available for around $30.00 at Best Buy. 4. Senior Nicholas Mlodzik is offering styluses for only one dollar. 5. Xperts are available during most afternoon classes in the LMC lab to offer assistance to students experiencing technical difficulties.
