Catholic Heart Work Camp 2013 Robins Mock Trial advances to State Xavier’s Campus Ministry program will lead a mission trip to Catholic Heart Work Camp in Jackson, Mississippi on June 1-7. This will be Xavier’s third year participating in the camp, with previous trips to Denver and Memphis. The adult leaders this year include teachers Mr. Satterlee, Mrs. Esker, Mrs. May, Mr. Hayward and St. Pius X youth ministers Lisa and Tony Bejarno. Service projects consist of completing minor home repairs, assisting children in summer programs, and working in social service centers in the Jackson area. Young adults ages 21-25 lead the high school campers in daily activities, along with musician Cooper Ray. According to past participants, Catholic Heart Worker Camp is a great way to serve others. “CHWC was so rewarding. I encourage Xavier students to attend and experience it for themselves,” senior Kristin Swanke said. If interested, there are still a few spots for the 2013 camp to Jackson. Contact Mr. Satterlee or Mrs. Esker in the Campus Ministry office for more information.

Robins Mock Trial brought order to the court on March 7 when they competed in the Regional Mock Trial competition to qualify for State. Robins Mock Trial (RMT) consists of mainly Xavier students and is divided into three teams, Team Sunday, Team Wednesday, and Team Everyday. The students prepare both sides of a fictional court case and then compete against other teams while defending their side. Each team practices two to three nights a week. Team Sunday and Team Wednesday competed in Mason City at the Northern Iowa Area Community College for Regionals. Each team competed in two trials. The top five teams

out of the 16 competitors qualified for the State Tournament. Team Sunday placed third with Team Wednesday in fourth place, both qualifying for the State Competition. Team Everyday competed on March 13 in Marshalltown. They placed third, qualifying for State as well. “We are excited to return to State. We have a lot of potential, and are ready to perform to the best of our abilities,” junior Chad Airy said. RMT will compete at State in Des Moines on March 26 through 28.
