Girl Meets World Show choir update On September 24, 1993, the beloved television show Boy Meets World aired on ABC. It was part of the TGIF lineup on Fridays. The show followed a teenage boy named Cory Matthews, who was played by Ben Savage, and his friend Topanga, played by Danielle Fishel. It followed them as they grew up and faced problems with friends, family, and school. The show lasted seven seasons, running from 1993 to 2000. It went off the air on May 5, 2000. Through the show’s seven years, it was nominated for many awards, including Best Performance in a TV Comedy Series and Favorite Television Show. Reruns of Boy Meets World can be watched on ABC Family. Disney Channel has recently announced that they are making a sequel TV show called Girl Meets World. It takes place 12 years after Boy Meets World went off the air. Cory and Topanga are married and have two children. The new show will follow Riley Matthews, who is Cory and Topanga’s youngest child. Girl Meets World will follow her as she faces her family, friends, and school, as her parents did when they were younger. The pilot is planned to be filmed this month. 11-year old Rowan Blanchard was cast as Riley Matthews. Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will reprise their roles of Cory and Topanga. Xhilaration and Xuberance have wrapped up their competition seasons and they are very proud. “Xuberance has grown since Waukee in more ways then one. They have become more accountable for their actions as individuals and as a group,” director Jaclyn Hussey said. “I have seen a change in their focus to make the show better, too.” On February 2, both show choirs traveled to compete in the Music In Motion Invitational held in Mt. Pleasant. Xuberance placed second in the Prep Division and Xhilaration placed third in the day rounds. In addition, “Xavier’s Xamazing Combo” won the caption award for Best Band. “It was really awesome to win the award because I was the one who ran up and got it,” senior Matt Wardlaw said. “We’ve been working really hard with both groups to help enhance dynamics and special parts in both shows.” During the night rounds, Xhilaration received first runner-up and tied for the caption award for Best Vocals. “I was very pleased Danielle Fishel plays Riley with Xhil’s performance at Mt. Matthews’ mother in Pleasant,” director Matt Walker “Girl Meets World.” She said. “I was happy for our kids, as also played Topanga in they have been working really hard, “Boy Meets World” from so it was fun to see them excited 1993 - 2000. about our first runner up finish.” Both choirs also competed in Lauren Van Hoeck A&E Writer Benton Community’s Touch of Class Invitational on February 9.

Boy Meets World creator Michael Jacobs told Entertainment Weekly that he was initially hesitant about the idea of a spin-off. “There’s a natural reticence to want to try and attempt something that you’ve been really lucky enough to do once,” Jacobs said. “But to actually take the children of Cory and Topanga and watch on two levels as they grow up and as Cory and Topanga keep growing up, I can’t resist that. I can’t resist that and I’m very hopeful the audience won’t resist it either.” Girl Meets World is set to premier sometime this year on Disney Channel.
During the day rounds, Xuberance placed third in the Prep Division, and Xhilaration also placed third in Class 4A. Xhilaration ended the night by making finals and finishing third overall. “I’m really happy with how I performed at Benton. I’m hitting the choreography sharper and more consistent than I was at the beginning of the season,” senior Chris Williams said. “It was really nice to see our group come together and perform well.” Xhilaration and Xuberance competed for the last time on Saturday, February 23 at the Raise the Roof Invitational hosted by Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Both show choirs will finish the season by hosting the middle school invitational, Xtravaganza, on Saturday, March 2. Xtravaganza will be hosting 15 middle school show choirs. Xhilaration will perform an exhibition after day rounds, and Xuberance will perform following finals. Their final performances will be in the Regis-LaSalle Theater at Final Showcase Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m.

Back to the Stage The 2013 music year is starting with a blast from the past. Many loyal fans will be counting down the days to reunite with their favorite performers, such as Destiny’s Child, Justin Timberlake, and Miley Cyrus. Both the celebrities and their followers are all ready for comebacks of epic proportions. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams are performing together after splitting up almost eight years ago. Destiny’s Child confirmed the reunion of the trio at Beyoncé’s half-time performance at Super Bowl XLVI. “They’re my family, and still are my family.
We needed each other so much. I mean, it’s harmony,” Beyoncé said to GQ magazine. Destiny’s Child has a new single, “Nuclear,” which will be available on Love Songs. This album is now on sale, and includes not only “Nuclear,” but also many of their past hits. Justin Timberlake came out with his new single “Suit & Tie,” which ended his six year break from his music career, during which he pursued acting. This song landed first on the U.S. Hot R&B/HipHop Songs Billboard. Timberlake recently performed “Suit & Tie” at the Grammy’s which got a great reaction.
Miley Cyrus is bouncing back with a new hairdo and a new attitude. After disappearing from the music world for two years, she is ready to rock it. Cyrus’ biggest concern is picking which single will be the one to bring her back. “I now am thinking about the full record rather than just that one hit. It’s really about the overall quality of the record,” Cyrus said during an interview with Rolling Stone. These artists are storming into the music world once again. From half-time at the Super Bowl to performing at the Grammy’s, these singers are living out their passion.
