Anyone with the desire to grow their own plants and the right resources to do so can create a garden! It is an excellent way to understand nature, and to make some tasty and fresh produce to use straight from the backyard!

Step 2:

Step 1:

Decide what you’ll plant! Carrots, snap peas, lettuce, beans, and onions are easy vegetables to grow, and pansies, tulips, lilies, daffodils, and bleeding hearts are easy flowers to manage.

Decide your location to plant your garden. Make it somewhere convenient to you! Ideally, it should be an elevated area for optimal drainage, and take sun into account as well. Vegetables in general need 6 hours of sun a day, where as flowers vary depending on their type. The ideal soil is 40% sand, 40% silt, and 20% clay.

Step 3:

Get the tools: Garden gloves Spading fork Rake Hoe Hand cultivator or trowel Garden hose Shovel Seeds Wheelbarrow or garden cart Watering Can

Step 4:

Planting.. But how deep? The depth of your fingernail on your index finger for lettuce and onions, the depth of your first knuckle for carrots, and the depth of your second knuckle for beans and snap peas. Most flowers survive best when they have been pre-grown at least a little and bought from your local gardener or flower shop.

Step 5:

Keep up with what you’ve started! Watch the soil moisture; keep it damp and your plants hydrated everyday, but don’t create standing water! It is just as bad as not having enough water!

Step 6:

Enjoy what you’ve created! Give the flowers to someone special, munch on your delicious fresh produce! Be proud of what you’ve done!

“I really enjoy gardening! We grow carrots, strawberries, and squash. In my free time I like to watch my flowers flourish. ” - Junior Mikayla Boland
