Xavier transitions into 1:1 iPad Project On August 8, each member of the Xavier faculty received an iPad3, kicking off the 1:1 Studentto-iPad Project. The 1:1 Studentto-iPad Project is targeted to begin in the fall of 2013. Its intention is to give each student his or her own iPad to use in the classroom. The two main goals of the 1:1 Student-to-iPad Project are to get students more engaged and involved in learning and to elevate the level of learning by developing a deeper understanding of the material. The switch to the iPad initially requires teachers to make the change to using the devices within their classes. Their aspiration is to go paperless for assignments. “The first step is to train the teachers, to let them get a year under their belt before we start with the students,” Principal Tom Keating said. In order to more extensively train the staff, six teachers will attend the iPad Academy this year through Grant Wood AEA in five different training sessions. There, they will be taught ways to integrate the iPads into daily activities. The teachers will also be introduced to Apple TV, which projects content from an iPad onto a larger screen for viewing.
