Practice for Individual Speech

events has also started. “Not only do we need to practice extra hard for the Large Group State contest, we are also starting to practice for the Individual Events,” Streif said. “This is the busiest time in the speech season.” Districts competition for Individual Speech will be held on February 23 at Center Point/Urbana High School. At the state competition, there are three judges. The scores received are either I, II, III, or IV. Overall, a I signifies Superior. To get to All-State, two of the three judges need to give the group a I rating, recommend the group to go to All-State, and rank in the top of all groups. Nine out of 13 of the Xavier groups received I ratings overall. The groups advancing to All-State were announced Monday night, February 4. The All-State festival will be held on February 16 at Iowa State University.

John &Con: Long. Live. A$AP

The faces of Hip-Hop are drastically different from the ones we used to refer to even three years ago. Household names such as Jay-Z and Kanye West haven’t lost their touch, but a new, younger face of Hip-Hop has surfaced. On the front of the movement is Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky. After the strong success of his first mixtape Live.Love.A$AP, and a ridiculous three million dollar record deal, Rocky released his first album ,titled Long.Live.A$AP. The album is long awaited after almost a six-month delay, but

delivers no disappointment. Rocky displays his versatility as a rapper, and enlists an all-star list of guest appearances to create a entertaining and well developed album. Whether rapping over a Skrillex beat or spitting a long verse over practically no beat, Rocky proves he is a talent to be reckoned with. Buy it for $11.99 on iTunes for a good listen from a potential legend.
