A&E The Lucky One: Not so lucky with critics
12
The long awaited movie The Lucky One, based on the book written by Nicholas Sparks, was released on Friday, April 20. Rated PG-13 and running at 101 minutes, this dramatic love story centers around U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault, who is played by Zac Efron. After returning from his third tour of duty in Iraq, Logan decides to go on a desperate search for a woman whose photograph he found, which supposedly kept him safe. Upon finding her and learning her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling), they embark on a romance that has been compared to Allie and Noah in The Notebook. As Efron’s character begins to fall in love with Beth
(Schilling), various complications in her life threaten their relationship. Although many moviegoers have found this movie extremely romantic, critics have not been so kind. Directed by Scott Hicks, this film has been described as being “more of an extended music video of Logan and Beth’s rocky road to love.” As it is being compared to earlier Nicholas Sparks’ book-tomovie successes such as Dear John, The Last Song, and The Notebook, The Lucky One has taken some hard hits from the critics who advise that this particular love story “be left for the hardcore romantics.”
