Think Pink!
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. There are a lot of different ways to get involved and support the cause. See what these Xavier students and the local community have been doing!
Xavier Participant:
Especially for You Race:
~October 7th ~Raised $376,000 ~15,250 participants ~598 survivors attended ~31 states represented ~The shirt color was lime green, it changes every year ~This race has grown immensely, 1st race had 1,078 participants
“I participated in the Especially for You Race because my grandma is a survivor. It was cold, but it was worth it because it was for a good cause.” ~Freshman Kaci Cox
The Facts: ~Out of 175 students polled, 93 know a family member or close friend who has been affected by breast cancer. ~2nd leading cause of cancer death among women ~12.5% chance of being diagnosed with it
Xavier Athletics Support the Cause:
“To support this cause, the volleyball team wore pink jerseys in our game against Waterloo West and put pink lines on the court. We also had a serving contest as a fund-raiser. For $1.00 you could serve for three minutes and try to win a prize. We raised around $300.” ~Junior Halle Heying
Accessory:
