Mixed reactions over paid parking Continued from page 1 residents strengthened their call for the abolishment of this system by taking to the streets and handed over a memorandum of grievances to KDM representatives. The march saw only a handful of demonstrators taking to the streets and was clouded by controversy as traffic officials issued fines to protesting vehicles. F o l l o w i n g t h e demonstrations, residents took to social media platforms to comment on the treatment they received during the protest and also lamented the paid parking system. One resident said, “I think if the municipality wants us to keep paying for the parking. Then at least let us the ratepayers to dictate what the funds must be used for.” Comments continued to pour in with a huge number of people against the paid parking system. One social
media user cited that, “I do pay and I am not happy about it but I can't do wrong because I am not happy. For sure we all have a solution on this but let's bring those solutions in a manner that will make sense to those who need to make changes.” Chairperson of the Glenhills District Civil Association, Mr Rishi Pooran touched on the legality of the issue. “As per the memorandum signed by KDM rep, no Marshalls to be seen on the streets as of today, 06 November 2017. Some of them have been seen making their way to the office, this stands up and until the Mayor meets with the citizens to address this. A 5-member task team has been formed to address this, don't pay until this is resolved. Also it's the law enforcement agency that has the mandate to scan and search your vehicle at any given time and place. Private enterprise is not the agent of
the law enforcement but a private company whose interest is to make money through its business interests as was noted in how they have been testing motorists, so if you find that your rights and personal information are shared and violated, immediately contact SAPS and make an arrest of any person/s doing that and if possible take pictures of them as evidence.” On Monday, 06 November 2017, the vehicles were scanned all over town and motorists were charged as has been the case since the start of the new system. The DA also joined in to comment on the matter with ILembe Caucus Leader, Cllr. Madhun Singh citing that the public outcry is justified. “Before the system was implemented the DA believes there should have been wide scale consultation with all stakeholders. The outcry is justified especially now that
the motorists have to fork out r o l l e d o u t a n d h a s R6 per hour for using the consequences we must find parking bay. Compared to one another at arriving at a other municipalities we win-win situation and better believe the rate is a bit high manage the system.” The municipality offered a and council must review it and come up with an response to questions raised by our publication saying that affordable rate.” Singh also questioned “The municipality will be w h e t h e r t h e m a r s h a l s meeting with the service overseeing this process are provider to discuss issues and well equipped before hinting concerns raised by the community in an attempt to at a possible price check. “Some of the grey areas and find amicable solutions to all concerns that need to be issues that have come to our addressed by council is attention.” Meanwhile, there is another reducing the rate from R6 to protest planned for Saturday, R4 per hour and introduce part rate of R2 or R2.50 for 11 November 2017 and is set less than half an hour to commence from SADTU parking. With the hourly Park. Questions that have been parking the ticket can be used for the duration at other raised by ratepayers: 1) Why should property parking bays as well,” further owners who have paid commented Singh before hundreds of thousands into adding t h a t , Discount “Althou Furnishers Est 1993 gh the Lindley & Balcomb Street. the Municipal Parking fund now pay for parking? 2) Shouldn't there be 'free parking' for vehicles parked for less than half an hour? 3) Where are the old car guards who should have been employed? 4) Who are these marshals? Are they from around KwaDukuza? 5) Why was the tender for implementing this system not advertised? Hopefully the answers to these questions will be forthcoming from the Municipality.

Stanger Training Centre received a well-designed and fully functional resource centre funded by Hesto Harnesses through their Corporate Social Investment programme in partnership with KwaDukuza Municipality on Thursday, 26 October 2017. The techno centre was donated with 30 computers, 30 tablet devices and a Samsung interactive monitor. During the conferral ceremony, a Samsung representative displayed how the gadgets should be used as well as showed the attendees how technology will be an invaluable tool for both educators and students alike. The technology will promote a higher level of interactive and participative learning. They also offer us an escort to our homes if we work late to ensure any risks are minimized. We have noticed that even the foot traffic on our streets has reduced.” Another resident, Shanil Singh expressed his delight with the initiative, saying that the results are excellent. “The number of suspicious people walking around aimlessly on the roads has drastically reduced. Arts Centre to hold auditions Shendrika’s Sundowner Bar & Restuarant
takeaway
Specials from 08-11-2017 till 11-11-2017
KwaDukuza Arts Center and the KwaDukuza Youth Center (umzobomvu) are calling out auditions to the youth, to be part of their first in-house drama production that will run for a year. The art center will be more
beneficial to the youth, it will make them realize that through their talents, opportunities to greatness are open. The art center will not only be beneficial to the youth, but will also put KwaDukuza on the map as far as art is concerned.

Make your health your first priority... We often take our health for granted because we are too busy worrying about building our careers, creating our families, our so called “wealth” and material possessions. While spending much of our time and attention on accumulating this wealth, we have lost the primary objective of living life healthily and to the fullest. How much value have we attached to our health? Yes, we acknowledge the value of our cars, houses and jewellery, but our overall health is not given enough importance. Yet it is our most valuable asset. We fail to realise that in order to enjoy the best fulfilling life, we need to be in a healthy state of mind, body and soul. So how do you achieve this condition of holistic health and well being? Firstly, we need to acknowledge that our health is at risk and we must commit to creating a positive difference. Our thoughts impact greatly on our health. If we are constantly replaying negative thoughts and memories of the past, it will eventually drain us of our energy levels, resulting in unnecessary stress. Stress is a detrimental factor to one's health because it places pressure on body organs and compromises our immune system. Stress also manifests into physical pain and stiffness in the joints and muscles. One cannot achieve optimal health while in a state of stress. Therefore, keeping stress levels at a minimum is of utmost importance to leading a healthier and happier life. When we experience emotional trauma which is not addressed properly, it can result in emotional blockages. Suppressed emotions cause a shut down in the cell receptors and the emotions remain trapped in the cells of the body. This manifests into many mental illnesses, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and Mucera prolonged mourning. The secret to Farm releasing negative emotions el quickly and effectively is through av d r L.A G oa the Journey Healing method of R Maine Brandon Bays. Our relationships also impact on Quarry our health and are contributing factors to our state of well being. If KFC

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed globally every October. The aim of this campaign is to increase awareness of this disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, both in the developed and developing countries. The incidence of Breast Cancer among South African women is increasing. This campaign is also an opportunity to provide information and support to those who are affected by breast cancer and to remind women to be aware for early detection. Fortunately, if it is detected and treated early, there is an excellent
chance of recovery and survival. It is therefore essential for every woman to conduct a Breast Self Examination (BSE) monthly, from the age of 20 and have a routine screening mammogram (a special xray to detect abnormalities in the breast) annually, from the age 40 and earlier if you have any concerns or a family history of Breast Cancer. If you have any of the following symptoms, visit a health professional: • lumps (Many breast lumps are harmless, but they all must be checked) • unusual swellings • difference in size of breasts • puckering of the skin • pain • discharge • sores

The New Guelderland Odour and Environmental Watch Committee has lodged a petition to the Department of Environmental Affairs against DCLM for continuous odour occurrences and asked for their license to be withdrawn. The community is met with excuses, denial and threats when reporting odour occurrences. New Guelederland is a poor community that this committee is representing. Lies and smear campaigns are the order of the day against the chairman of the New Guelderland Odour and Environmental Watch Committee. We need iLembe's health department to investigate the high rate of cancer at the area nearest to the dumpsite, 5 cases in a 100m radius. Also many people with respiratory problems and sinusitis are affected. The odour is making people sick and many display symptoms similar to those reported in the Upper Highway at the Shongweni Landfill site.

The problems are more frequent in winter and cold weather. Testing of air quality is done by DCLM which is illegal. Dumpsites emit gases, hydrogen sulphate, benzene and fluoride which is dangerous and can cause long term problems. Many homes in the New Guelderland area rely on borehole water. These people want answers as to why iLembe and KDM are not doing testing of the water. DCLM is not trusted thus causing panic in the area. Residents of New Guelderland

Dawnview Primary, Ziphozethu Primary, Stanger Training Centre, Stanger Manor Primary, Nonoti Primary, Harry Bodasingh Primary and Amatikulu Primary were among the schools to receive spoils courtesy of this initiative. A total of 2100 children benefited from this initiative, each child received a bag filled with delectable goodies and stationery. Project L3 aims to spread awareness on the ongoing problem of child abuse while concurrently generating an income to sustain the organisation. Wrist bands, badges, t-shirts and sunglasses are presently being sold to the public. Exciting new products (such as lunch boxes, juice bottles and watches) will be launched next year. The organisation welcomes the public's participation on items they would like manufactured for 2018. Child Welfare SA-KwaDukuza is proud to report that Project L3 is gaining healthy momentum and is spreading across the country with

Free education for the poor - not for prisoners Students lambasted the Heber Commission for failing to address, "what they fought for." It was also recommended by students that the contentious registrations fee be scraped. Remember "the fees must fall", was also supported by students overseas. I still can't understand why "free education should be provided to prisoners", while "our poor kids" are struggling to further their studies. Government must understand that many families are financially disadvantaged and need help to send their kids to college or university, but people who were arrested for serious crimes enjoy "free education". It's as if our government is encouraging criminal acts. Most of the offenders committed serious crimes, such as murder and armed robbery, but they are to study
free at the "EXPENSE OF TAXPAYERS". The government should come up with a plan to help poor students further their studies. Government must note that young people are the future of this country. We cannot let them down!!! They should be assisted to realise their dreams for the sake of the country. I believe if South Africa is indeed "a free and democratic country", then helping poor students will serve as a good example. I really don't have a problem with the rehabilitation of offenders, but giving them free education ahead of the poor students is totally unfair. The government

should put young people first. 2018 will benefit the poor students and we also want to see "the fees must fall protest" again. God bless South Africa. DA PR Councillor Moonsamy Naidoo (Roy) Darnall

KwaZulu-Natal is facing a severe blood shortage, with less than one day's supply of blood available. The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) warned that November could be a “testing month” as it was facing critical blood shortages. The shortage is largely down the fact that it cannot hold blood drives at schools and universities across the country during the end of year examinations. SANBS said there were only one and a half days of O type, while the situation in KwaZulu-Natal seemed dire with less than one day's supply of blood
available. The blood supply in the province is currently at 0.7 days of stock (129 units), compared with a [usual] healthy blood stock for KZN of 500 units The situation has, in fact, reached a critical level in KwaZulu-Natal and we appeal to all South Africans active donors, lapsed donors and potential donors to go to their local donor centre and donate blood to bolster the national blood stock. So many people in life-threatening situations require blood. It's what saves a hemorrhaging mother's life so that she can raise and love the baby she has just TH brought into the world. Qwabe United trounce Shakaville
Mavin Ramsamy hands over the sponsorship to Lucky Gumede
Qwabe United trounced Shakaville FC 6-0 in their first encounter for the 2017/2018 season. Qwabe should have opened their account as early as the 5th minute after striker Zothani fluffed his shot, kicking wide. After that missed shot United regrouped and Justin Kabini Wele sliced through the Shakaville defence and placed his shot at the far post that made it 1-0 in favour of United. In the 20th minute, Justin Kabini Wele dribbled past two defenders and took a shot for a 2-0 lead and later on Vusi Mbonambi (left winger) took a good free kick at 40 yards that made the score 3-o. Zothani Gumede intercepted a pass from his
middle fielders and took a strong ground shot that kissed the net to give Qwabe a 4-0 lead going into the half time. Qwabe continued their dominance at the start of the second and on the 60th minute, Jason Kabini Wele added pain to the already drowning Shakaville and score the 5th goal to take and unassailable 5-0 lead. In the 85th minute, Zothani came back with a curved shot from 30 yards and sealed business of the day and half dozen was bagged home for United. The game ended 6-0 in favour of Qwabe. In another exciting news, Qwabe United scooped another sponsorship from
Asambe Cane Transport. Mavin Ramsamy, the Director of Asambe Transport handed a cheque of R15000.00 to Lucky Gumede, the Chairperson of Qwabe United FC. Mavin said he is very pleased to associate himself with a growing brand of Qwabe United. He said that he always hear people talking about this team and the big following the club has. Mr Mavin Ramsamy is one of the generous business man in Stanger who has supported so many events in Stanger. He likes to see kids playing and promised to sponsor all Qwabe United events in the future.
iLembe annihilate Verulam in opening KZN fixture
iLembe Cricket Club got their league campaign to an electrifying start in the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union Stream I league with a stunning victory against Verulam. Verulam won the toss and decided to bat first on a tricky Gledhow pitch and slow outfield. This was proven by the slow rate they scored and
excellent bowling by iLembe. Verulam posted a painstaking 118 all out in 40.3 overs. L. Subrayen top scored with 36 whilst Astheel Singh was not out on 30. Firing in was bowler I. Sher who claimed 5/30 in 10 overs with assistance from S.B. Hoosen who claimed 2/1 in 1.2 overs. In reply, iLembe, playing
in their home ground conditions, cruised to 119/3 in 19.2 overs with S.B. Hoosen contributing 45 and A. Nadasen and I. Mahomed 34 and 15 not out. iLembe won by 7 wickets. Meanwhile, in the domestic i L e m b e Cricket Union T20 league
game played at Umhlali, Pak International slammed Ashrafiya by 7 wickets. Ashrafiya won the toss but once again failed to score at a fast pace. Pak International restricted Ashrafiya and had them all out for 83 in the 18th over. High performance
bowling from Adnan Akhtar Abbasi (5/13 in 3.2 overs) and M. Khalid and Munsif Abbasi (2/12 in 3 overs) saw the demise of Ashrafiya. Pak International got off to the worst possible start losing Ali and Bilal sent for an early shower in the first

Warriors stun Darnall, Grove End retain title
Grove End and Warriors Sport: winners of the Moon and Sons KO
Warriors Sporting, under the astute leadership of Rajiv Mathapershad stunned the more fancied undefeated Darnall United in the finals of the Moon and Sons sponsored knockout tournament (hosted by KwaDukuza Volleyball Association) that culminated in a grandstand finish on Thursday night at the association courts amidst a bumper crowd whilst Grove End retained their crown defeating KSST. Both Warriors Sport and Darnall were top of the log in
the group stages. After eliminating Frendz and Cool Leaders in the semi-finals respectively, they faced off for the mammoth battle. Darnall had the psychological edge over Warriors Sport having beaten them in their league encounters. They dominated the beginning of first set, but Warriors clawed back albeit losing the first set 22-25. In the second set attackers, Nolan Govender and Daniel John fought back with a barrage of heavy hitting that left Darnall reeling. Nolan
was unstoppable with some great sets from Sam Pillay. Warriors won the second set 25-16 and the score line tells the story about their dominance. In the third set, centre attacker Leeshan Moodley got into the fray and pulverized the ball past the Darnall defense. Some fantastic blocks from Rama Govender and Sigen Kistnan contributed to Warriors S p o r t claiming the third set 15-11

The two giants of KwaDukuza Darts Association, Sundowner Darts Club and Darnall United clashed head to head on Wednesday night at the Quartz Sports Bar and Conference Centre fighting to gain the pole position on the league table. Sundowner Darts Club stood their ground right from the start to capture pure revenge against Darnall United who beat them to claim the Dolphin Plumming league title. The Sundowner team comprising of Darrel Shanmagum, Neeran Somnath, Terrence Subban and Len Naidoo went toe to toe with their scores in the first team game (1001) against Darnall United. However, Sundowner drew first blood winning the first set. Darnall's Jerry Govender, Jerry

Arunachellum, Preolen Muthusamy and Nine Pillay put up a strong fight in the second set but failed to close on the double and thus Sundowner snatched the point leading 2-0. In the third set, Sundowner scored high tallies and won the set to take an enthralling 3-0 lead. In the doubles game (701), Darrel Shanmagum and Neeran Somnath beat Jerry Govender and Jerry Arunachellum in the first set to take the scores to 4-0. In the second game Preolen Muthusamy and Nine Pillay ran out of ideas and paid the price dearly as Terrence and Len won the set to tale and unassailable 50. With four singles matches to be played (501), Darnall had to win to save some pride. However
Shanmagum had other ideas beating Govender in the opening singles match to stretch the lead 6-0. Jerry Arunachellum and Preolen won the next to games against Terrence and Neeran to put some smiles in the Darnall team. The last game saw Len Naidoo beat Nine Pillay by a narrow margin to give Sundowner a 7-2 victory taking Sundowner to the summit. In the other games played, Neelan's Auto "B" beat Strini Motors 7-2 and Neelan's Auto "A" took a walkover against Nevil's Auto who came with two players. Tonight sees Strini Motors take on Neelan's "A", Sundowner play Nevil's Auto and Neelan's "B" are up against Darnall United.
