Buthelezi graces Ntshawini Continued from Page 1 Wednesday, 08 May 2019. Addressing the packed hall, Buthelezi cited that unity amongst party leaders and supporters will enable the party to retain voters from rival parties and do well in the upcoming election. “KwaDukuza holds a special place in my heart and it brings a smile to my face when I see resilient unity amongst our members in this region. This year's election must be used to bridge the gap between the rich and poor. As an IFP we want to create the social and economic justice for all South Africans. It's time for South Africans to vote for the Government that walks the talk,” said Buthelezi. Prince Buthelezi added that the high support from the Indian community in ILembe District is highly valuable to the IFP. “Social cohesion and reconciliation are vital to the IFP, running through all these issues is the problem of corruption, which has become so institutionalised that dealing with an individual here and there is no longer sufficient. The whole culture of corruption must be arrested and

replaced with a system of ethical values,” added Buthelezi. Speaking at the hall, IFP election campaign manager in KwaDukuza said the visit by Prince Buthelezi will boost the parties support in various wards within KwaDukuza. “The IFP in KwaDukuza is ready for the election and we are confident we will do well. Vote for the party that cares about you, The IFP is still saying “Trust Us”, because we are still the party you can trust. That promise is backed by more than 40 years of consistent, value-based leadership. We know how to make our country work” expressed Cllr Motala.

KDM Mayor launches probe into illegal occupation

HOUSING PROJECT: A snapshot of the Chris Hani Housing Project in Ntshawini (Ward 15), where the Mayor of KwaDukuza has called for a probe into the alleged illegal appropriation of occupants

KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu has instituted an investigation into the Chris Hani Housing Project in Ntshawini (Ward 15), over the alleged illegal and wrongful allocation of beneficiaries on the first phase of the project that is made up of 45 housing units. The investigation is a direct response to complaints that have been lodged to the mayor by the community over the alleged wrongful and illegal appropriation of some of the beneficiaries in the new housing project. Mayor Mthembu, on 24 April 2019, opened the floors for engagements with the community to address the question. The council had approved 1000 units to the Chris Hani

Housing Project; 942 beneficiaries have been approved and 48 applications are being processed for approval. So far, only 45 units have been constructed and are currently occupied. Mayor Mthembu has deployed a special Task Team to probe the alleged wrongful allocation of the 45 housing units. “I have deployed a special task team that will look into the alleged wrongful allocation of houses in the Chris Hani Housing Project. This committee will examine all those who have applied for houses and will report the findings to the community once it finalizes its work. This committee will be composed of the Chris Hani Housing Project Manager,

Mr. Thembinkosi (Nothi) Ngcobo working together with Human Settlements officials” said Mthembu. “As a responsible government, we need to dig deep into what has been reported by the community; in doing so, we will review the allocations to ensure that the beneficiaries who have already been placed are rightful and are the most deserving. Our criterion prioritizes the elderly, childheaded households and the disabled; we will also ensure that this is observed during this process. Once the investigation is concluded, the Ward Councillor must convene a public meeting to report on the findings of the work of the committee,”

Fuel price hike The Department of Energy has announced a petrol price increase of 54 cents a litre for 93 and 95 unleaded for the month of May. Diesel has a one cent per litre increase, while illuminating paraffin sees a three cents per litre increase. In a statement the Department of Energy said the international factors amounted to about 54.00c/l on petrol and 1.00c/l on diesel and 3.00 cents per litre for illuminating paraffin.

Easter celebrated at KwaDukuza Mall

Giant colourful lollipops, mushrooms, Easter eggs, a popcorn box and a colouring pencil picket fence set the

tone for a wonderland of fun for kids over the Easter weekend at the KwaDukuza Mall.

“The play area which was located at Entrance 2 aimed to provide children with a visually appealing and memorable Easter,” said KwaDukuza Mall Centre Manager Raveshin Veerasamy. Children under the age of 12 got an opportunity to tap into their creative side with the assistance of our Easter 'craft-masters' who helped the young ones create eggciting Easter themed crafts using everyday household items. 'Kuza' the bunny also made a guest appearance and gave a few shoppers a warm hug; with some even walking away with a sweet treat sponsored by Checkers. “The play area was free to enter and one of many more exciting activations the mall will host to entertain shoppers,” said Veerasamy.

In attempts to ensure that South Africa holds a peaceful election on the 08 May 2019, KwaDukuza SAPS in partnership with the IEC and KwaDukuza Municipality embarked on roadshows in various areas in KwaDukuza, encouraging residents to obey IEC code of conduct as we head to the General election next week. KwaDukuza SAPS Constable Khuzwayo urged people to refrain from removing opponent's posters. “Let us tolerate other people from other political parties, let's not carry firearms and other weapons during elections,” said Khuzwayo. Constable Khuzwayo further remarked that Police members will be visible everywhere to monitor and arrest those failing to comply with the rules.

Sri Lanka stunned by Easter Sunday bombings On Easter Sunday, suicide bombers killed about 250 people and injured more than 500 at churches and top-end hotels across Sri Lanka. Most victims were Sri Lankans, but at least 38 foreigners are among the dead, including British, Indian and US citizens. The official death toll had reached 359 by Thursday. However, the Sri Lankan government then revised that figure down to 253, blaming a calculation error.

The church bombings were carried out during Easter services in Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo; the hotels that were bombed were the Shangri-La, Cinnamon Grand, Kingsbury and Tropical Inn. According to government officials, all seven of the suicide bombers in the nearsimultaneous attacks were Sri Lankan citizens associated with National Thowheeth Jama'ath, a local militant Islamist group with suspected foreign ties, previously

known for attacks against Buddhists. Christians were attending Easter Sunday services when the bombings took place, targeting churches and hotels around Sri Lanka. The sequence and coordination of the bombings were planned to cause maximum destruction, targeting Christians during worship services across the island nation, and targeting guests at the height of breakfast in luxurious beachfront hotels in the capital.

Ramaphosa axes NPA officials

Host your next event at Green Chilli

President Cyril Ramaphosa has fired controversial senior National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) officials Nomgcobo Jiba and Lawrence Mrwebi. The president's decision will be sent to parliament within two weeks, which will then have 30 days to decide to either uphold the decision or restore the two to their positions. An inquiry chaired by retired Constitutional Court judge Yvonne Mokgoro found that Jiba, the suspended deputy national director of public prosecutions, and Mrwebi, suspended special director of public prosecutions, were not fit and proper to hold office.

Green Chilli at the KwaDukuza Mall now offers the community the option of hosting their event at the restaurant. From birthday parties to corporate functions Green Chilli is the perfect venue for your next event. Seen are patrons enjoying scrumptious meals

BIG RED JEEM South Africa currently finds itself in the grip of poverty, violence, economic instability, unemployment and corruption. The very moral fibre of our society is being eroded. Our people are crying out for fundamental change, but those pleas are falling on deaf ears. Al Jama-ah will position itself as the alternative to the bigger parties, and will see to the needs of all sectors of society, not only an elite few. Our goal is to boost the institutions of democracy, so that the people of South Africa are enabled to proudly be active citizens of this country. Our democracy is being destroyed by corruption. We are greatly disturbed that the public protector budget is not adequate we will push for full funding, to address each and every case so that we stop the corrupt and wealthy from getting richer, whilst the poor continue to suffer. Our slogan: Deen first Deen first: • Is the moral compass which will guide us in the manner in which we conduct ourselves, and especially the decisions we take on your behalf. • It is our commitment of honesty and transparency in all that we do • It is not exclusive. Rather it is inclusive to all those who wish to build a South Africa on justice, fairness and a high moral fibre as it's foundation • More importantly it indicates that we are proudly Muslim. In this democracy, it is something we will not be apologetic for. From Halaal to Hajj issues, there needs to be a party with the political will and Islamic ethos to take up the concerns of our members and our communities at the highest level. Al Jama-ah is a Muslim party not just a party with Muslim leaders. Pillars of our manifesto 1) Safety and security: South Africa is the most

A party for all South Africans

unequal society in the world. Violent crime is on the increase in South Africa, with certain sectors of society feeling the brunt more than others. We aim to address the following: • The incorrect ratio of police and law enforcement numbers. Police stations in more affluent areas where there is a considerably lower crime rate, often have far more personnel than those of police stations in townships and more impoverished areas. • The reasons behind the high crime rate are often related to substance abuse and gangsterism. We need to support those people and their families caught in the web of substance abuse. Through lobbying for more funding for rehabilitation centres and skills development programmes which can break the cycle of this scourge on society. • If we can strengthen the family unit and curtail substance abuse, we stand a far better chance of lowering our crime statistics. • We will lobby for a larger budget for safety at schools. Our children spend most of their day there. 2) Youth participation • Al Jama-ah is committed to bringing our youth in from the cold. As we approach the 2019

They will be our eyes and ears on the ground and engage with South African youth so that we may be kept up to date with what the youth of the country needs to succeed. • These youth organisations will also be our first point of call in all of our schools where our youth are challenged by a deteriorating education system and increasing violence. 3) Health • The issue of deteriorating health services is coming to the fore more often. South Africans are dying because there is no national health plan in place to see to its elderly and ill. • We will fight for a health service which provides it's patients with proper care and treats them with dignity and compassion • We will be the point of call in our represented provinces for those who have negative experiences and promise to take each case up to the highest level of resolution • Al Jama-ah is being proactive and is already working to establish a private health care facility in Blue Downs, Cape Town which sees to provide the level of care envisioned for our citizens at no cost. 4) Business development and entrepreneurship • Whilst national government hosts summit after summit, and meeting after meeting our people continue to suffer because of the lack of jobs. • We believe that it is time to stop our moaning and do something about this. • We are already partnering with the London School of Entrepreneurship and identifying revenue streams related to 5G Internet. • We will co-ordinate business development and entrepreneurial workshops all over the country, so that the dependency on pie in the sky jobs decreases and people are the masters of their own

destiny, whilst empowering themselves and others. 5) Sustainability • Our planet is precious and needs to be protected at all costs. • We are committed to a sustainable, safe planet and South Africa • We will lobby to save the environment, rivers and seas from chemical poisoning and well as protecting our waterways from sewage pollution • South Africans from all walks of life deserve clean drinking water and healthier living. 6) Employment • Al Jama-ah will lobby for a

greater budget for skills development programmes, such as sewing, construction, call centre initiatives which equip people with basic skills to enter the job market or start their own businesses • We will connect our members to the job opportunities available across all SETA's and government institutions via our monthly newsletter Al Jama-ah currently has 9 councillors across the country. We need more. We need your support to be able to objectively see to the needs of our community. We are not Islamic fundamentalists. We are not

extremists. We believe in the hard-won democracy of our country and in no way want to move any sort of Islamic state. We do however believe that we have the expertise and the political will to take forth and lobby for issues which affects Muslims, and the communities we live in. South Africans have given the bigger parties a chance and have been disappointed. Al Jama-ah humbly seeks your support so that we may have the opportunity to prove ourselves to you. Give Al Jama-ah a chance! Look for the big red Jeem and Vote Al Jama-ah on 8 May 2019!

MWABU to empower learners in Ilembe we are delighted to be hosting this event in support of the new E-Learning initiative,” said Mariemuthoo. According to Development Manager at Mwabu, Mr Ramesh Bissessar, the programme is set to build on the success of the recent pilot conducted by Mwabu and the DoE in KwaZulu Natal, with the support of the MRP Foundation. “President's vision of a tablet device in every pupil's hand within the next six years makes this a pivotal moment for E-LEARNING: ILembe District partners with Mwabu for an e-learning programme set to reach 150 schools in ILembe district. The disappointing, scary statistics of South Africa in the field of Maths and Science will soon be a thing of the past. Mwabu Education South Africa embarked on a great initiative to equip learners with necessary tools to learn and understand maths and science better. This programme, known as elearning, will reach 150 rural schools within ILembe District. Mwabu Education South

Africa has been endorsed by ILembe District Education Department to develop an elearning programme for primary schools across the district. Both parties are entering into a collaborative partnership that will raise education standards in ILembe. Y e s t e r d a y, H y u n d a i Stanger hosted a presentation for partners of ILembe District to explore opportunities to support the programme, the presentation was graced by Dr LMMS Madondo, ILembe District

education in South Africa. This programme is placed to support the adoption of meaningful e-learning, in order to achieve learning outcomes for all. We will be issuing tablet devices to various schools within Ilembe. Tablets will be covering Mathematics and Science in Grade 4 to 7. High quality and interactive digital lessons not only improve the opportunity to learn but the product also assures subject knowledge for educators and challenges them to extend their pedagogical expertise

in the classroom,” articulated Ramesh Bissessar. In conclusion, Karen Wells, MRP Foundation Manager said this programme will allow teachers to be exposed to ground breaking content in Maths as well as Natural Science and Technology. “The Mwabu trainers were fantastic evidenced by the great level of engagement and enthusiasm from the educators who attended,” said Karen Wells.

By Xpress Reporter

Maphumulo Local Municipality recently released a statement passing its condolences to the family of Cllr Michael Fanizo Nzuza who passed away in his home last Friday, 26 April 2019. “Maphumulo Local Municipality is deeply saddened by the passing of Councillor Michael Fanizo Nzuza, who passed away in his home last week Friday. Cllr Nzuza was a dedicated

and hardworking public servant, who strongly advocated for his community in Ward 2 and Maphumulo in its entirety. Cllr Nzuza made great contributions to the Maphumulo Council and his death leaves a gaping void in the sphere of local government in our Province. His death has robbed this Council and the community at large of a foot soldier in our fight against poverty, i n e q u a l i t y a n d unemployment. On behalf of Maphumulo Local Municipality and community, we wish to convey our deepest condolences to his family, children and friends. The community has lost a leader, friend and a pillar of strength for his family and children. World Press Freedom Day By Xpress Reporter

World Press Freedom Day is annually observed on 3 May to inform the international community that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights. This day reminds people that many journalists brave death or face jail to bring daily news to the public. Media professionals, including photojournalists, who risk their lives in the line of duty, are recognised on World Press Information Day. World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of

UNESCO's General Conference. Since then, 3 May, the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek, is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day. It is an opportunity to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom, assess the state of press freedom throughout the world, defend the media from attacks on their independence and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Many communities, organizations and individuals take part in this day through various events such as art exhibitions, dinners featuring keynote speakers, and awards nights

to honour those who risked their lives to bring news to the world. World Press Freedom Day was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 1993 as an outgrowth of the Seminar on Promoting an Independent and Pluralistic African Press. This seminar took place in Namibia in 1991 and led to the adoption of the Windhoek Declaration on Promoting Independent and Pluralistic Media. The Windhoek Declaration called to establish, maintain and foster an independent, pluralistic and free press. It emphasised the importance of a free press for developing and maintaining democracy

in a nation, and for economic development. World Press Freedom Day is celebrated annually on May 3, the date on which the Windhoek Declaration was adopted. Although World Press Freedom Day has only been celebrated since 1993, it has much deeper roots in the United Nations. Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration on Human Rights states that everyone “has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers”.

ANC NEEDS YOU! YOU NEED THE ANC! South Africans are at the final frontier. It is time for us to be decisive about the choice we make at the polls. In the final instance we must put away our emotions and resist the calls by detractors of the ANC to mislead us. Our president Cyril Ramaphosa has demonstrated that he is serious about changing all our lives, whether we are the minority or not. It is time therefore, for us to be decisive as well and give the ANC the chance it deserves to provide a better life for all, free of corruption and fair in its application of policies. In the recent months, more and more of the Indian stalwarts have come forward and pledged support for the President's new vision and the initiative he has taken to achieve it. We have been witness to high level officials and politicians being removed for corrupt practices; SOE's are being brought to account; ministers are being held responsible for their portfolios. It is time for us as well to leave behind the shadow of the last 9 years and look forward to the new dawn. Out duty as citizens of the country is not just to go to the polls to vote, but give the ANC our mandate to make the changes we deserve. The ANC is the only logical choice in the greater scheme of things.

Ramadaan Quotes

Hasad: Destructive envy; jealousy

Hasad (Arabic) refers to jealousy or envy. It is called the sickness of the soul, heart and faith It is wishing that a blessing that GOD ALMIGHTY has bestowed on the envied person be taken away. Hasad is forbidden in Islam, except for two specific reasons: Being jealous of a person for memorizing Holy Qur'an by Heart. Being jealous of a wealthy person for expending his wealth in the path of GOD ALMIGHTY. The Holy Prophet of GOD ALMIGHTY (SWT) said: Beware of envy because indeed envy destroys good deeds in the same manner as fire destroys wood [Abu Dawood] The envier harms himself in three ways: He earns sin because hasad is haraam. It is bad etiquette before GOD ALMIGHTY, because what hasad really means is hating GOD ALMIGHTY'S blessing His slaves, and objecting to what GOD ALMIGHTY does. He suffers because of too much worry and distress. Hazrat Luqman (as) said to his son: The envious person has three signs: back biting behind them (whom he envies), flatters them in front and is happy when they are in trouble. Hasad is a disease of the heart and it causes impurity to the heart, when the HOLY PROPHET ( SAW ) was asked who are the best of people? He replied: "the one with a clean heart and truthful tongue.“ They asked: 'We understand a truthful tongue, but what does a clean heart mean?' he answered: 'It is the heart of one that is pious, pure, and is free of sin, transgressions, hatred and Hasad.”

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been crowned PFA Players' Player of the Year The commanding Dutch centreback received the award at London's Grosvenor House Hotel after beating Manchester City's Raheem Sterling to the prestigious personal accolade. He joins Mo Salah with Liverpool and Manchester City dominating the awards. With Van Dijk following in the footsteps of 2017/18 winner Mohamed Salah, it's the first time the trophy has been won by Reds players in two successive seasons for 35 years. Ian Rush collected it in 1984 12 months after fellow Kop legend Kenny Dalglish had also been recognised by his peers. Its reward for the inspirational role Van Dijk has played in Liverpool's thrilling challenge for the Premier League title. He is only the sixth defender to win the PFA Players' Player of the Year dating back to 1974 and the first since Chelsea's John Terry in 2005. Van Dijk has been ever present for Jurgen Klopp's side in the topflight this season and has helped the Reds keep a remarkable 20 clean sheets in 36 league matches. They boast the best defensive record in the Premier League with

recording ton plus scores. Meersing was in top form winning 2-0 against Rowen Pillay. The second semi final two was between team mates Nine Pillay and Justin Naidoo. Both players scored well but Nine Pillay took advantage of Justin's failure to close the game and sealed a 2-1 victory. In the final, Meersing Sobram started like a house on fire recording many ton plus scores and Nine did well to keep up. Meer closed the first game in style going 1-0 up. The second game was another closely fought game with both players scoring fairly high. Meer's rich vein of form continued in leg two as he cantered to a 2-0 victory. PRO of KDDA, Ajen Singh congratulated the finalists and asked for sponsors and businesses to come on board and support the union. KDVA kicks off Easter tournament

KwaDukuza kicked off their annual Easter volleyball tournament last Thursday at the association courts at Stanger High. Traditional rivals and favourites, Darnall United and Shakas Volleyball Club got mixed fortunes but once again were drawn in the same 'pool of death' with Sunbrook and Cool Leaders. Pool B consists of Glenhills, Bethel CC, Manor Old Boys and Heights. Draws were done last Tuesday at the Quartz

Sports Bar. Darnall are sure favourites to advance into the cross over semi final from the group with Bethel and Glenhills from Pool B. The second semi final is a tight call between Cool Leaders and Shakas. In the opening Pool B game Baptist proved their class when they demolished their nearest rivals Glenhills 25-11, 25-13 whilst in the other Pool B game, Heights had to work hard to beat MOB 25-19, 1425, 15-12. Mokoena gains SA colours Lucky Mokoena from KwaDukuza has done us proud when he was selected to represent South Africa in Netball after the selection tournament held recently. Mokoena plays under the banner of iLembe Netball. Mokoena who hails from Ward 8 Nkobongo switched from basketball to netball at the tender age of 15. Ivy Khumalo, President of iLembe Netball congratulated Mokoena and said that one of the glorious things is not to give up no matter how you struggle. “We have learned how to say things that matter and to fight for the things that matter more. We've always been a volunteer, doing more work for the young women and men of iLembe District more than we've done in years with the limited resources that we have. Just last year I became a member of the National Coaches

Commission for Netball South Africa. One of the five members in the country, and as iLembe Netball, we are slowly producing good results that we think our stakeholders might appreciate. In 2011 2013 we had a National U19 and U21 player from this District who represented iLembe and played international Tournaments. In 2013 our ladies won gold in the National champs in Rustenburg. In 2012 our boys won silver in the National Champs in Gauteng. In 2014 our U21 won Bronze in the Spar National Champs in Durban We are very proud of our own Lucky and we also know that he's going far with his talent, we also appreciate all the assistance from our stakeholders that took us this far when we were knocking on your doors,” said Khumalo.
