CCG: Lost the battle, but still in the war By Xpress Reporter
The Concerned Citizens Group has come out to clear the air about the hullaballoo caused by its move to oppose the construction of KwaDukuza Mall. Chairperson of the CCG Mr. Haroon Mohammedy, briefed the press at Hyundai Boardroom on Friday, 26 May 2017 and said that they are 'Not opposing the mall construction but they are opposing the mall on a property of the municipality and used by the sports people'. Speaking about the court ruling in favour of the property developers, Mohammedy said, “All that the Durban High Court did, regrettably, was to dismiss CCG's application to interdict
review proceedings that were to be instituted regarding what CCG believes to be the improper sale of the Golf Course site and the Central Sports Complex”. The group is still adamant that things can still swing into their favour. “CCG is confident of succeeding in the review application which is in the course of being finalised for lodgement in the High Court and DRT proceeds at its peril” said Mohammedy. Speaking SPOKESPERSON: IFP KZN of the reasons for losing spokesperson Mr. Steven Moodley out on the interdict, the the commencement of CCG chairperson said, earthworks on the site “The KDM was forced, in pending the outcome of
opposing the interdict, to make a portion of the documentation available which they had previously refused to furnish to the CCG despite a number of requests including an application in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act and also lodging a complaint to the office of the public protector. Two of these documents reflect clear variance between the nonnegotiable aspects of the tender specifications and the provisions of the sale agreement that was entered into,” said Mohammedy before adding that “The interdict was not granted inter alia because CCG had not been privy to such documentation when it

prepared its interdict application under very urgent circumstances”. Meanwhile, the CCG has garnered support in the Provincial Parliament with I F P M P L , M r . St e v e n Moodley raising a motion to investigate the purchase of the Golf course and sporting complex. “Madam Speaker, on the next sitting day of this house, we move for a thorough investigation into the issue of corruption being perpetuated with regards to the development in KwaDukuza. We ask how can 26 hectares of land and 2 sports field be sold for a mere R9 million? This smacks of nepotism and blatant corruption as the beneficiary of none other than a wellknown businessman who is known for his alliance with the A.N.C. We also call for transparency and accountability in this matter and urge C.O.G.T.A to seek answers and resolutions in the best interest of all the people of our province and not just a select few. This, we so move” said Moodley.

Reflexology: Two feet closer to health What is reflexology? “Reflexology” is a holistic therapy based on the principle that every organ in the body is reflected on certain areas on the feet, hands, body and ears. The origin of reflexology The system of working on the feet is ancient form of therapy. Earliest traces have been found dating as far back as 5000 years in India, China, Japan and Egypt. Forms of “pressure point therapy” or “zone therapy” were well known in Europe in the middle Ages. Modern development of the reflexology Modern reflexology was introduced in 1913 by William H. Fitzgerald M.D. (1872-1942), an ear, nose and throat specialist in the United States. Dr Fitzgerald claimed that applying pressure to certain points of the hands or feet had an anaesthetic effect on other areas of the body. Eunice Ingham (1889-1974), a physiotherapist, applied pressure to particular points across the soles of the feet and discovered that this technique stimulated and helped the body to heal, rather than to provide only pain relief. During 1930-1942 Ingham developed a 'map' of the whole body on the feet.
New approaches and techniques, have been developed around the world and Therapeutic Reflexologists in South Africa are now trained in a wide variety of subjects, methods and techniques at AHPCSA accredited training institutions. This means that therapist can provide a reflexology session uniquely suited to the specific needs of each patient. Therapeutic Reflexology/Foot massage There is a huge difference between a gentle, relaxing, pampering type of foot massage and a properly trained therapeutic reflexology treatment. Therapeutic reflexology means the stimulation of reflex areas on the feet, hands, body and ears of a patient, through the application of specific hand, finger and thumb techniques and or the use of associated reflexology equipment, for therapeutic outcomes. Treatments The Therapeutic Reflexologist may treat or provide treatment for diagnosed disease, illness or deficiencies in humans or encourage their patients to change their lifestyle in order to prevent such disease, illness or deficiencies.
Therapeutic Reflexology does not claim to be able to cure disorders and imbalances in the body, but treatment is a noninvasive therapy intended for use alongside conventional medical care. This therapy has proven itself to be effective in stress related conditions, depression, bowel disorders, sinus problems, postoperative recovery, illnesses that that are caused by emotional, mental, and/or physical experiences, sleep disorders and other health related conditions. Cancer patients also experience less side effects to their chemotherapy. Treatment Sessions People of all ages may benefit from a therapeutic reflexology treatment. While some individuals may choose to enjoy the therapy on an occasional basis, many choose to receive such treatments regularly to help them maintain their health and well-being. Referrals Therapeutic Reflexology practitioners are qualified to refer patients to other Health Professionals in both the Allopathic and Complementary fields.

Tariff increases
It is that time of the year when the municipalities are busy with the budgets that don't affect them but the poor consumer. The civil servant bureaucrats think that they are more important than the ratepayers who pay their salaries. If there were no ratepayers they won't even have a job. I completely disagree with the DA that they are in favour of the sewer being charged according to the municipal valuation of the property. This will never work. Imagine a house with 2 or 3 occupants where their present sewer charges (15kl per month) pay R272.96 including vat and basic charges will have to pay R655.50 on a house that has a rateable value of one million rand. The same will apply to a small business but high property valuation. According to the Municipal Property Rates Act 2004, all properties are revalued every 4 years and our next valuation will be in 2019. iLembe has a duty to explain to the ratepayers as to the reason why the change from the present system to the rateable value of the property. According to Miss Zee Nqala, Communications Manager of iLembe Municipality, the sewer charge change (property valuation method) is currently in the public participation phase - through Budget and IDP Roadshows (Did this take place? Not to my knowledge). Miss Nqala goes on to state that the valuation method will ensure fixed sewer charges for consumers and avoid using estimated readings. Is this a good reason? Who is asking iLembe to send out accounts with estimated charges? Every ratepayer should object to the change in the system and force iLembe to continue with the old

The municipality is not a business entity. They iLembe District Municipality moved from should realize that the consumers (especially valuation to water consumption based at the present moment) are going through a method. One of the reasons thereof was the directive from the Treasury to have water and very difficult time. Added to their woes is SA has been sanitation cost reflective in terms of d o w n g r a d e d t o j u n k s t a t u s . This proved in numbers as the debt book of the municipality did increase and the collection rated decreased. The District Municipality is now reverting back to the valuation method as it does prove to be economical and affordable. With this method, the latest valuation rolls have been imported from the local municipalities. • The sanitation charges are at a respectable value and have been made affordable to categories of consumers • The impact has been revised and the different values have also been looked at in terms of affordability • The indigent consumers will obtain the first R130 000.00 exempt from calculations • There are different tariffs for the various categories, business, welfare, indigent, commercial and industrial as well as residential • The concerns of the residents have been considered as well and the tariff and its structure has been revised to an affordable and fixed based rate • On another note, on the valuation method, there is no basic charge for sanitation charges/levies. Randeree always ensured the development of up and coming players. He ensured that all players in his team were taken care of. He personally paid for their registration fees, attire, refreshments and transport. He went on to sponsor the Stanger and District Volleyball Association Competitive league for numerous years. Without fail, Randeree made his pilgrimage to the volleyball courts every week to support Randsons, but he also brought along refreshments, not only for his players but for all teams present. He served SDVA for 20 years as patron and Honorary Vice President. He was popularly called 'Dad' on the courts. Randeree also opened Randsons Cricket Club to promote cricket amongst the youth and the club ran for 5 years. Goolam Randeree suffered with diabetes for 30 years but he never let his sickness put him down, even though his leg was amputated in 2004. He eventually succumbed to his illness on 27 May 2017, leaving behind his wife Amina, sons, daughters and grandchildren. Isaac Abraham, president of KwaDukuza Volleyball Association said: “He was just a man. Like all of us. But, what a man he was. A people's man, not just in name, but in deeds, and most importantly, in heart. A soft-spoken man with a resolve of steel. A man who instinctively knew what was right or wrong, and lived by these basic principles…even when the world he lived in rarely cared. KwaDukuza Volleyball Association owe him a debt we cannot repay. He shared his wisdom whenever we needed it. He encouraged and helped us reach heights we thought were impossible. And when we succeeded in spite of everything, he reminded us that success was not an endgame. He counselled that it must be tempered with humility-that we who have succeeded must help those who have not, have less, or have a harder time. Since being elected as president of KwaDukuza Volleyball Association, way back in 1994, at the eve of each annual general meeting he would phone me and say 'Isaac, please serve for another year' and thus I dedicate my 23 years as president of the association to a FROM gentle giant. Champion Season: for Morningside Cricket Club
Morningside Cricket Club were emphatic winners of the iLembe District Cricket Union T20 league this season, winning 6 of their 7 games and finishing 6 points clear above the second placed team. Morningside started the season off with a bang. In their opening match against Nkobongo, Morningside put on an eye watering 262 for 2 in 20 overs. And then proceeded to obliterate Nkobongo for a paltry 30 runs, a massive 232 run victory for Morningside. Morningside star batsmen Levan Moodley notched up an unbeaten century, (116) and was ably assisted by Dillon Rautenbach who smashed a quick-fire 87. Manor were the next hapless victims in Morningside's crosshairs. Morningside posted an impressive 168 for 5 in their 20 overs, and then bowled out and unimpressive Manor side for 87. Levan once again starred for Morningside with an unbeaten 78 and Dillon chipped in with another 50 runs. Match 3 saw Morningside take on Flipside. Flipside
batted first and posted a below par 92 runs in 20 overs. Morningside made light work of that score chasing it down in just 6 overs. Levan 40 and Lucky Gebane 40 not out were the destroyers in chief. Game 4 was the only blip in the season for Morningside losing to United. Match 5 and with the title clearly in site, Oceanville was the team that would feel the Morningside wrath. OCC batted first and put on a respectable 127 runs. Unfortunately the Morningside batsmen showed no respect for the bowlers brushing aside the total in just 14 overs. Levan shone once again with the bat and ball scoring 66 not out and adding 2 scalps to his bag. Match 6 the Dawnheights boys must have thought they did pretty well posting 164 in their 20 overs, but that was a very short lived thought. Morningside raced to victory in just 13 overs. Match 7 and I guess Maphumulo decided they were not in the mood to be run over by the Morningside juggernaut and decided not to show up.
It has been an impressive season for Morningside Cricket Club, and there were s o m e s t a n d o u t performances. Opener Levan Moodley notched 354 runs in the season at a staggering average of 177, Dillon Rautenbach 212 runs at an average of 53, Lucky Gebane 100 runs at an avg. of 33 and Harry Naidoo 77 runs at an average of 25. This meant that Morningside had the most formidable batting line up in the league. The bowling wasn't half as bad either with Rishal Devkurran picking up 10 wickets in the season with Mohamed Mhlongo and Levan Moodley picking up 8 each. Morningside Cricket Club Manager; Vernon Perumal said that this was a very impressive season for the club. It was not just that the A side had won the league by such a huge margin, it was the ruthlessness of his batsmen and bowlers, who just brushed aside all opposition. He said the season got off to a perfect start with Morningside being crowned the inaugural Mayoral 6-a-side champs, and with the team that he had

put together fought the T20 league he was very confident of a winning season. Vernon had nothing but praise for all his players, and also spared a few words for his B side that were placed a respectable 5th in the B league, and his under 16 w h o finished second in the under 16 league, 1 point behind the

winners. Vernon said he viewed both the B side and the under 16 team as the future of the club and that planning for the future now by blooding the youth with a few old heads he will ensure the longevity of Morningside Cricket Club. He also stated
that in the coming season Morningside will be entering the 50 over league and that Morningside will soon be hosting a gala presentation evening to celebrate their success and honour those that have excelled.
