he president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, visited KwaDukuza to engage with the community at the Stanger Siva Sungum Hall on Friday, 26 July 2013. The citizens of KwaDukuza waited with nervous anticipation for the president to arrive with most saying that it was their first time seeing him let alone a state president. When state president, who is also the African National Congress (ANC) leader, arrived the people within the packed hall erupted in cheers, whistling and started clapping. The program director and (Member of Executive Council) MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Ravi Pillay introduced various speakers from within the ANC fold. Councillor Thokozani Msweli (iLembe District Municipality House Speaker) said that the meeting the ANC is hosting is consistent with the character of the ANC. “As the ANC we have convened this meeting today to allow all different sectors of the society to engage openly on various issues that affect us and seek to produce solutions that affect us,” he said. The programme director then allowed the people to pose questions before President Zuma, the Mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Councillor NR Mthembu and other ANC top brass. A Mr N Singh, a university student, asked for a university in iLembe and more internship opportunities. Mr C Nash from Zinkwazi, 65-year-old white male, says he 'respects what has taken place in the country' and is 'grateful that we have a democracy.' “I am a white South African and I cannot change the past, I would like to see a stronger leadership (a leadership that will come down hard on those that are found guilty on fraud and corruption). I am proud to be a member of this country,” he said A ward 19 resident told the office of the president that rates in KwaDukuza are very high and is worried about homes being attached and the resultant legal action thereof. Shakaskraal Secondary School learner Kiara Birbal, addressed the president and MEC for Human Settlements and asked: “As an Indian student in today's society there are very few opportunities for me to study, what are the future prospects for us as students?” Councillor NR Mthembu was given an Continued on page 5

Petrol attendant’s dream comes true LOVE OF GOD: Vusi Gumede from ward 12, Thembeni, with his successful debut album: “Inkosiyazi”
By Xpress Reporter
The unwavering belief in God and keeping a dream alive proved to be a powerful combination for a Thembeni man. The 34-year-old Vusi Gumede from the Ebenhezer Christian Church, a petrol attendant at the Mvoti Plaza South bound Shell Service Station, has managed to make his dream come true and release his debut gospel album. The father of four children said that he started singing in the church choir set up since 10-years-old and says that God is his motivation. “I pray to God and I am filled with energy to sing gospel,” said Gumede. Gumede started work on the album in 2009 and finished last year in 2012. He explained how he saved money from his full time job to supplement
the production of the album entitled: “Inkosiyazi” (Zulu phrase which literally translates to “God knows”). The album features an eclectic mix of several vocal tracks, many instrumental tracks and an English track. The self styled humanitarian who lives the “Straight Edge” lifestyle (which is defined as living your life: free of alcohol, free of cigarettes and staying drug free) aims to inspire the youth to adopt this clean way of living. Sales of his debut album have done so well that his second album: “Unamandla” is slated for release come 2014. Part of the proceeds from the first album is destined for an underprivileged school. Gumede who is also a motivational speaker can be contacted on 083 642 3952 or 074 963 6448 for inquiries.

We are the fastest growing Municipality in terms of building low cost houses. “In terms of the rates we can say we are the municipality with the lowest in the country,” said Mthembu. He reminded President Zuma of KDM's indigent policy whereby if a person who earns R 3000 and below per household can apply qualifies. He also urged residents who qualify to come forward to KDM together with their respective ward councillors. Ravi Pillay (KZN MEC for Human Settlements) said that KDM is one of the most effective municipalities as far as Human settlements are concerned. “It may be because of that success you are getting more challenges,” he said. The State President and President of the ANC Jacob Zuma then took to the stage amid a cheering crowd. Zuma said it was good to be back at Stanger, 'a developed town with traffic lights and very happy.' “Friends soon we will be marking twenty years of freedom. Twenty years of democracy have changed the face of our country,” said Zuma. “SA has done well in an extremely short space of time working together since the dawn of democracy, we've made SA better and fairer place it is a wonderful place to live in.

A visit to the local cemetery has left a local resident traumatised after being accosted then hijacked on S a t u r d a y, 2 7 J u l y 2 0 1 3 a t approximately 11am. The man was visiting the Stanger Muslim Cemetery when on his way out two black males approached him. The citizen got into a tussle with one of the assailants when the other allegedly produced a large knife. On seeing the knife the resident gave in and surrendered his car keys. The person who looks after the cemetery saw what was happening and ran towards the perpetrators with the intention to help when the hijackers drove off. The citizen while still in a frenzied state managed to get a lift back home. The KwaDukuza SAPS were contacted and immediately attempted to recover the stolen vehicle the same day. With the SAPS on full alert, the vehicle was seen in the Nonoti area but the hijackers managed to elude the local SAPS. The following day, Sunday, the KwaDukuza SAPS found the vehicle abandoned near Etete in the 'Honolulu' area. No arrests have been made. The resident was full of praise for the local SAPS and a Warrant Officer Govender who assisted him. The family wishes to thank Lieutenant Colonel RD Mathura for all his effort and full support given in recovering the vehicle. Mathura has on several occasions sent out a warning to local residents to avoid going alone to places like the
cemetery, park and recreation grounds etc. He urges the community to be in the company of three or more people when doing so. Hijackings have taken place outside the cemetery area in the past and Mathura urges people to be extra vigilant when visiting over the weekends. Constable Sbusiso Khumalo is appealing to the community for information that will lead to the arrest of the hijackers. A rollback to The Xpress Times article: “SAPS warning on winter crimes” (1 June 2013) is most appropriate at this time... “This part of the year being winter sees an increase in all kinds of crime,” says Mathura. People need to be careful especially those starting work early in the morning. They need to walk in groups since the days are short and the nights are longer which means criminal opportunists are waiting to rob our citizens. Theft of cell phones, cash, personal belongings, vehicle break inns and burglaries are high. Citizens need to be vigilant. People are sound asleep when intruders strike because their lights are off at night and this is not a good idea advises Mathura. Tips for the general public offered by Lieutenant Colonel Mathura: When going to work walk in groups as it is safer, avoid displaying items like cell phones when playing music without earphones, couples parking vehicles in dark corners at night in the CBD (go to your house), please don't leave valuables in the car like laptops and cell phones; vehicle owners must
not park on the road or the verge and house numbers should be clearly visible at all times as it makes easier for the police to locate residences in less than no time. He also added that half of the crime committed is due to negligence of citizens not heeding police warnings. Mathura said the SAPS will take a hard line. “We will not tolerate this and we will name and shame those who indulge in the dead of night.”The KwaDukuza SAPS will be monitoring dark areas very closely. The SAPS strongly urged house and vehicle owners to leave their lights on at night as this will be a deterrent and go a long way in assisting the police in the unlikely event of a crime taking place. Townships pose a challenge as Colonel Mathura points out that improper road and bushes make it difficult to navigate and locate. Here again citizens need to make sure that house numbers are clearly visible. Constable Sbusiso Khumalo strongly urges citizens to come to the police station for assistance with community watch forums. Khumalo also issued a warning to motorists to be aware of robbers throwing acid on a would be victim's face. With regards to CCTV Cameras and the footage of robber's faces being admissible in Court, Khumalo advised businesses to place their cameras strategically. Mathura urges the respective communities in charge of cemeteries to at least employ security guards on weekends which are when most visits take place.

Child-napper nabbed An excited young mother's joy turned into horror when her newborn baby was kidnapped by a friend of hers on the day she was discharged from hospital. Thobile Zondi alleges that she was met by her grandmother and friend upon her discharge. Her friend offered her a lift from the taxi rank and when Zondi and her grandmother alighted she
drove off with her companion and the baby. Two weeks later, police managed to track down the I.T specialist, Nondumiso Immaculate Phiri (25) who has been remanded in custody pending an application for bail. Sweet success Spoornet Protection Service officials have claimed a sweet victory over a small gang of Ndwedwe based criminals who have been looting goods trains. Prince Mbonambi alleges that they boarded the Stanger to Mandeni goods train at about 10pm. At Harold Johnson, the train was stopped after the gang uncoupled some piping. The group removed 28 x 50kg sugar and stacked it along the railway lines. An hour later, a bakkie arrived to pick up the sugar and Mbonambi and his team surrounded them and placed them under arrest. Vusi Mthembu (28), Amos Gumede (36), Vincent Chili (23) and Fana Chili (41) were remanded in custody. They will seek bail this week.

Final countdown Magistrate Shoba Maharaj is back after a short holiday and her no-nonsense approach to shoplifters was soon felt. Last week Zinhle Gumede (20) of Melville was arrested at Edgars after she had stolen a pair of jeans valued at R300. Despite her pleas for mercy after pleading guilty, Maharaj pointed out to Gumede the seriousness of her actions and the high spate of incidents of this nature. Gumede was fined R1000 or two months imprisonment.

Strong-arm tactics Lawrence Dube narrowly missed being necklaced by an angry Monkey Town mob last week. According to Dube, he had gone to investigate damages to his girlfriend's house at 3am when the mob apprehended him. They accused him of damaging the house and began assaulting him and threatened to necklace him. He alleges he was pelted
with stones by the vigilante group and handed over to the police. Police investigations could not link him to the incident and he was released. He reported a case against the group and thus far police have only managed to arrest one culprit. Armstrong Mseleku is expected at court on 26 August.

Provincial Chairperson says ‘nothing wrong with ANC’
The African National Congress (ANC) provincial chairperson for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Senzo Mchunu, also accompanied President Zuma in a historic visit to KwaDukuza at the Stanger Siva Sungum Hall on Friday, 26 July 2013. Mchunu who is also KZN MEC for Education, speaking to a large gathering of the KwaDukuza community said “we need to stop a little and count our blessings.”
“We are a generation in this country that saw the fall of apartheid and secondly we are a generation that saw Nelson Mandela walking out of prison with our own two eyes,” he said. He added that this generation saw democracy for the first time in this country. In Mchunu's estimation with regards to opposition parties and naysayers finding fault with the ANC, it was rubbished by him. “There is nothing wrong with the ANC. If you see a streetlight

that is not functional for a week or two it is not the ANC... it is somebody you know.” He added that the community approach the Mayor together with their respective councillors and encouraged dialogue. “As a democracy we must not just sit there and say the government will do everything for us. “That feeling of being citizens of the country, taking ownership of our destiny as a country needs to continue and we look forward to engage local government on the things we see that are wrong,” he said. He said that our role is now different. In the past citizens of South Africa united to fight the evil system (apartheid) and defeated it. “Any community whether they are Indians, Coloureds and Africans cannot tell another community to go anywhere else,” said Mchunu. Mchunu also condemned the ethos and policies of the Mazibuye African Forum. “You belong here even if you do not vote for the ANC. This position we are taking is not being said to please the Indians in KZN but we are saying this for the future of this country.”

Mandeni hosts ANC president Zuma not have any history and were built out of anger by disgruntled people who were ousted from their parties. The president took a hard line against children who refused to attend school saying that a proposed new legislation could lead to them being arrested. The Mandeni Mayor, Councillor SB Zulu was in attendance and witnessed the president break into his signature dance with the community also joining in.

Essence of Life Heart Attacks And Drinking Warm Water
The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals, not cold water, maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating. For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
Common Symptoms of Heart Attack... A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting . Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line . You may never have the first

Dear Mr Sangweni and Mfeka I have taken careful note of your organisation's recent comment that are framed on hatred, anger and racism and is seen as an attack on innocent Indian South Africans in general. Your organisation's most recent comments that Indians should not benefit from Black Economic Empowerment and affirmative action and that Indian owned land should be distributed to black South Africans, is devoid of any knowledge and only serves to deepen the historical divisions in society and the legacy of apartheid that wounded our nation so deeply. I need not remind you, that apartheid discriminated against all non-white South Africans, to the extent that many of our fellow brethren had to fend for themselves under very difficult circumstances. To promote the punishment of those who were able to rise against the challenges of apartheid principles of discord, hatred and division. I am writing in the hope that my correspondence will bring about some semblance of sanity and call on your organisation to re-focus its energies on social cohesion and nation building instead. It is rather unfortunate, at time when our nation once again celebrates the legacy of our beloved Madiba, your organisation has chosen a path that fosters division rather than unity. It is in the spirit of Nelson Mandela's vision of One Nation with One future that I would like to extend an invitation to your organisation, join me in a discussion that would lead to us building a brighter future for all South Africans irrespective of their race or historical circumstances. MAMA MADINA FORTUNE TELLER with Samuli Powder He Changed My Life In Few Days Roy of Chatsworth : I have been suffering for the past 7 years until I met PAPA DEON ADAMS from Stanger. I lost my business, money, houses, my wife and everything I had worked for, for a long time. I did whatever I could to get back to my feet but nothing worked out for me until a friend of mine introduced me to this priest. Then I said let me try him as my last hope. Now my life is back, my businesses are growing fast and I am very happy together with my family, the way we were helped and surprisingly his charges are reasonable. “Its never to late stop suffering now’’ PAPA DEON ADAMS will iron away all your worries. Gledhow trounce Neville’s Auto Gledhow was in a fiery mood last Wednesday when they trounced a hapless Neville's Auto II 11-2 in the Trophies Engravers sponsored Dolphin Coast Darts Union league played at the Action Sports Bar Darnall last Wednesday. With main rivals Darnall Action I falling to Neville's Auto I, the win almost guarantees Gledhow the second spot on the log table. Gledhow raced to a 4-0 lead after winning the 2 team (1001) and trebles (801) events. Rookies Leon Moonsamy and Kumaren Munien pulled 1 back for Neville's Auto by beating the more experienced pair of Darrel
Shanmagum and Neren Somnath in the first doubles game (701). However the pair of Terence Pillay and Woody Naidoo got Gledhow closer to the finishing line when they defeated Niven Naidoo and Preggie Appadora and with the duo of Rajesh Parasaramen and Vigen Murugan receiving a walkover (Neville's Auto fielded only 5 players) the game was almost in the bag. Shanmagum, Somnath and Te r r e n c e P i l l a y e n s u r e d Gledhow's victory with comprehensive victories against Leon, Kumaren and Niven. Appadora saved face for Neville's Auto when he defeated
Woody Naidoo. Parasaramen then demolished Johnny and with Murugan receiving a walkover, Gledhow registered a comprehensive 11-2 win over Neville's Auto. Neville's Auto I continued with their winning ways when they hammered arch rivals, Darnall Action Sporting I 10-3 to claim top spot on the league table. The billing against these teams did not live up to expectation as Neville's Auto clearly dominated proceedings, especially in the singles games. Neville's Auto opened up a 2 point lead after winning the team events. The trebles games were

Grove End have thrown the Stander and District Volleyball Competitive league wide open when they toppled the log leaders Randsons for the second time this season. This comes on the back of their impressive straight set defeat of the reigning champions a fortnight ago. Randsons went into the game boasting just a solitary loss, that being to Grove End with title contenders, KSST and Grove End with three losses each and should have been a walk in the park for Randsons. Randsons started off like would be champions with Sandhir 'Tin Boy' Jugmohan and Migashen Govender in fiery form. Randsons went on to claim the first set 25-21 and looked certain to win the second set. However a catalyst of unforced errors from Randsons saw Grove End claw their way into the game by securing the second set 25-19. Randsons woes continued in the final and decisive third set with numerous unforced errors. This saw Grove End claim victory (15-8) to open the title race on a three way basis between Grove End, Randsons and KSST. The acquiring of the evergreen Ronald 'Tiger' Ponsamy recently seems to have added the extra spice that Grove End needed. Even though the game was evenly poised, Randsons have only themselves to blame for the defeat after their numerous errors. Randsons seem to be missing their big guns Neren 'Bob' Reddy and Cassim Mohammed who are

out on injury. KSST kept track with log leaders Randsons with a hard fought 25-20, 25-23 victory over Warriors Sport. Incidentally, KSST lock horns with Randsons tonight and a victory for KSST will see KSST, Randsons and Grove End on equal points after round three. In what was classed as a thriller in the KDSA Social league, Virgo, after a series of defeats, bounced back to winning ways when they beat the court cover specialists, Cool Leaders in three sets. Cool Leaders and Virgo basically went point for point in the opening set with the lead
changing hands on numerous occasions. Cool Leaders held on to for a hard fought 25-23 win. The titanic battle continued in the second set but Virgo turned the tables around and went on to win the set 25-20. In the final third set, Cool Leaders ran out of steam and were hammered 15-6 to Virgo the victory. With Teachers Style not in action, Titans took full advantage to steer two points clear at the top of the log, albeit with one extra game, with fluent 25-19, 25-8 demolition of Preston. Manor Old Boys put up a gallant fight against Sunbrook but went down 22-25, 21-25.

Age in action- Playing “Shoot the ball” as the crowd watches on
The iLembe District Municipality hosted the district Golden Games at the Stanger Recreational Grounds on Thursday, 25 July 2013. The games are hosted in a partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sports and Recreation together with the KwaDukuza, Mandeni, Ndwedwe and Maphumulo municipalities. The aim of the game is to endorse a healthy lifestyle among elderly people from 60 and above in order to promote good health among the elders of the community. Sports that were played on the day included duck wall, dress-up race, ball passing, ball throwing and goal shooting and many others. Addressing the elderly, iLembe gender subcommittee chairperson Councillor Nomonde Mthethwa said it was essential to have events that encourage healthy living not just for the elderly but for every member of the community.

In her speech, iLembe Deputy Mayor Councillor Dolly Shandu spoke against the rape and sexual abuse of older women. “Before I came here this morning I read a story in the newspaper about an 18-year-old boy that raped an 80 year old granny. Just last week we visited a home in Ndwedwe where and this must stop. We can't go on like this. This has to come to an end,” said Councillor Shandu. The winners received medals and trophies and will represent the iLembe District Municipality in the provincial games to be held in August 2013 with national games being in October later in the year.
