Parents urged to be vigilant By Xpress Reporter

Parents are urged to be cautious following two recent posts on a social media platform by traumatized parents who allege that their children were almost abducted by an unknown woman. In a post on the Facebook page called 'KwaDukuza - ILEMBE Public Matters & Reporting', a concerned mother alleged that she was at a store at Ushaka Mall when her 4-year-old son disappeared within a few seconds. “I left my son down for a bit as I was carrying him. I looked up for the lady and she was gone…my son told me that she had tapped him on his back and then he just started following her. He was in daze and in state of total confusion,” reads the Facebook post. Another concerned parent took to the social media site, saying that she experienced a similar incident with her 3-year-old son at the manor bakery. The post reads: “…I turned around for just

a second and when I looked back to my son, he wasn't there. I saw him through the glass window following a very well dressed lady. They were walking so fast. I ran out and shouted for him. He turned around puzzled and then came to me…” KwaDukuza SAPS Spokesperson, Inspector Johannes Khoza urged parents to be cautious at all times. “These criminals are very observant and fast. Refrain from leaving kids in the car and don't allow them to go out without guard. Our duty as police is to enforce the law and create awareness. The Democratic Alliance (DA) KwaZulu-Natal Chairperson and Member of Parliament, Haniff Hoosen addressed the Glenhills Community on Thursday evening at the Glenhills Multipurpose Centre. He impressed upon the Glenhills Community regarding their daily efforts in building a better South Africa for all. He also reminded attendees of the freedom that liberated all people in 1994 and the hope the Mandela administration gave as well as restoring the dignity of the previously disenfranchised. "Fast forward 25 years later, since 1994, the very same government that was elected to bring us hope and a better future for us all is the government that is destroying the same future we all worked hard for," said the DA MP. Hoosen zeroed in on the critical issue of parents being unable to afford education by saying that school fees are so high that their salaries are not enough to cover that cost and parents worrying about paying for high electricity and high water tariffs. "The quality of services you are getting from our government is on the decline. Our clinics; hospitals and schools don't work properly. Our transportation system is falling, there are potholes all over the place, there is an increase in informal settlements wherever you go. Our society is getting worse and it's costing us more."

According to Hoosen the "reason is simple because the people we elected into government is stealing more and more of your money and not investing it in our future." He implored members of the community to join hands with the DA in saving the country and building a better future because soon there may be nothing left to fight for. Haniff Hoosen also emphasised the need to register to vote since there is apathy amongst the Indian Community. As part of town hall meetings across the country to interact with communities, Haniff Hoosen was well received. Community concerns was high level of crime and very little is done by SAPS to curb it. Man sentenced for raping niece By Xpress Reporter

A 35-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping his niece in Ndwedwe last year. According to KZN SAPS Spokesperson, Lt Colonel Thulani Zwane, the incident took place in August 2016. “The victim, who was nine-years-old, was at Mona area at Ndwedwe when her mother sent her to her uncle's house to look for her younger brother. While she was at her uncle's house, she was raped by the uncle and the matter was reported to her mother. A case of rape was opened at Ndwedwe police station for further investigation. The docket was transferred to KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences for intensive investigation as it involved a minor child. Through thorough investigation, the accused was arrested and charged with rape. He appeared in court several times until he was convicted on Friday,” said Zwane. The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the conviction and sentence handed down to the accused. “I condemn the abuse directed to women and children. The accused was expected to protect the victim from being abused in any form by criminals but he was the one who abused her. I further encourage young children to continue reporting such cases to the police when being abused by their family members or by anyone in the community,” he said.

EFF turns four By Xpress Reporter

One of South Africa's fast growing political parties, the Economic Freedom Fighters held a huge anniversary party at Curries Fountain, Durban on 29 July 2017 to celebrate its fourth year of existence. During this event, the party's Commander in Chief, Julius Malema dished out a controversial speech which has led to many people and civil society groups accusing him of causing a divide between the Black and Indian communities. Malema cited that during his

Malema's alleged hate speech door-to-door campaign leading to the anniversary celebrations of his party, he learnt about the plight of African people in the province. “They don't pay our people. The Indians who own shops don't pay our people. They give them food parcels. We want a minimum wage even in the Indian shops. When you are black and you have a domestic worker, pay them the minimum wage and treat them properly. If you are an Indian and you have a shop, treat our people properly,” said Malema.

He went on to say that the ANC is on the payroll of Indian businessmen who exploit black people. “They are treating them as subhuman, and the ANC has allowed that nonsense because the ANC is captured here in KwaZuluNatal, and all political parties in KZN are captured. They may not be captured by an Indian Gupta family, but they are captured by other Indian families,” said Malema. The controversial speech has

garnered a lot of criticism with various people saying that the EFF's leader thrives on sensationalism. Jonathan Annipen, spokesperson for the Minority Party, was quoted in one of the national newspapers saying that he would approach the Human Rights Commission because Malema's statements 'were likely to reignite racial tension in the province'. “When he goes to provinces where there is a large white population he attacks white people. Likewise, when he comes here to KZN he attacks Indian people. This is one of the reasons the EFF has never been able to make inroads into the Indian electorate. “Historically Indian folk fought alongside those who were marginalised and disenfranchised. One must understand that KZN has been plagued with political violence which has resulted in many deaths. Indian people were UNDER FIRE: EFF leader Julius Malema, whose speech has been met with criticism

Press successful because they were hardworking, not because they exploit their employees. Indians don't go around complaining about the evils of black empowerment and affirmative action. They take what's given to them and excel. Malema must not think that black people are so ill-informed. They know who is responsible for the injustices they are experiencing,” said Annipen. Following Malema's lashing out at the Indian community, this open letter to the ill-famed leader has been making rounds on social media: “Dear Julius Malema get your facts straight about our Indian community in South Africa we didn't get to where we are because of tenders, handouts and free giveaways from any government, we worked hard, our mothers, fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers came here with nothing and they worked for it take your lies, and your hate speech and your anti Indian sentiments and throw it in the Indian ocean. You yourself can also jump in that ocean, it will be even better for South Africa”.

DA condemns Malema's anti-Indian comments The Democratic Alliance strongly condemns the irresponsible and racially divisive comments made by Julius Malema at the EFF rally in Durban over the weekend. Malema made a number of sweeping statements, aimed at racially stereotyping all Indian

South Africans. Malema's comments were nothing other than racial fearmongering. It indicates deep-seated prejudiced views that have no place in our constitutional democracy. The DA would never condone any businesses that do

not respect our labour laws or exploits its workers. However, leaders like Mr Malema should be careful not to make generalised racial statements that serve only to fuel racial hatred. The DA appeals to Julius Malema to apologise for his

bigoted comments. The DA wants to build a nonracial, non-sexist South Africa, filled with opportunities and hope for all our people. We condemn any actions and statements that undermine this vision.

Sewer Tariffs Report Back

Konke sekumi ngomumo ngaphambi kokuqala komqhudelwano we MTN8, lokhu kuza ngemuva kokuba i-Premier Soccer League imemezele izinsuku zokudlalwa kwalomqhudelwano ngoMsombuluko, 31 KuNtulikazi 2017. Umdlalo wokuqala walomqhudelwano uzoba phakathi kompetha be Absa Premiership, iBidvest Wits kanye neqembu lalapha esifundazweni iKwaZulu-Natal, iGolden Arrows ngo Lwesihlanu, 11 KuNcwaba 2017.

Izitshudeni izona ezizolwela ukuvikela lendebe njengoba zikwazile ukuyinqoba nyakenye lapho zibhaxabula iMamelodi Sundowns kowamanqamu. Selulonke umhla lwalemidlalo lumi kanje: NgoLwesihlanu, 11 August 2017, Bidvest Wits vs Golden Arrows, NgeSabatha, 12 KuNcwaba, Cape Town City vs Polokwane City - Cape Town Stadium (15h00), Kaizer Chiefs vs SuperSport United - Moses Mabhida Stadium (20h15). NgeSonto 13 KuNcwaba Mamelodi Sundowns vs Maritzburg United Lucas Moripe Stadium (15h00).

On 22 June 2017, iLembe District Municipality convened members of KwaDukuza Business Community to discuss proposed sewer tariffs and to find a way to work together. From then on a task team consisting of seven members was elected to engage with the Municipality's officials on the matter. The task team's convener, Mr. Shain Manjoo has offered this response regarding engagements with the municipality: “This serves as an update on the work being done by the Ilembe Task Team representing businesses and all consumers, as you are aware, a task team was appointed at a public meeting in June 2017 on Mayor Sduduzo Gumede's suggestion to review the contentious sewer tariff charges. We have since had 2

meetings with ILembe officials including the Municipal Manager Mrs Gamede. The last meeting was held on Friday, 14 July 2017 at which the Honourable Mayor was also present. The task team presented its case and grievances especially highlighting that the change in system for charging sewer from the water consumption to the property valuation basis was unfair and unwarranted. The task team presented various reasons to support its argument including undertaking an analysis of water and sewer tariffs charged by other District Municipalities many of whom are much lower than ILembe. In addition, most of these District Municipalities including the Metros such as EThekwini charge sewer based on the

water consumption method. More details will be presented soon. ILembe acknowledged our concerns but maintained their stance that the budgets were properly advertised and that they had provided for a R5 million capping of property values as a concession. This stalemate prompted the task team to request the intervention of higher authorities being Cogta and Treasury. The Mayor readily agreed to this and requested Ilembe officials to contact Cogta and Treasury. The task team is meeting Cogta next week at which we will discuss the issues and present a dossier/report to Cogta. The task team has engaged the assistance of the Ilembe Chamber of Commerce who may also be present at the Cogta meeting.”

Grove End dethrones Randsons in Ralph Reuben memorial final Grove End: Winners of the Ralph Reuben Memorial KO

Niven Baldeo (centre), skipper of Grove End receives the floating trophy from the Reuben Family

The final of the Ralph Reuben Memorial knockout cup proved to be a pulsating affair as predicted with the giants of volleyball in KwaDukuza, Grove End I and Randsons pitted against each other in final played in front of a huge crowd last Thursday. The

11 froing Randsons into a time-out which did wonders for the team spirit. Randsons thereafter raced into a 23-19 lead. Grove End fought back courageously reducing the deficit to 23-24 but a dynamic attack from Premlal ensured that Randsons win the set 25-23. In the second set, Randsons seemed to have lost the zest that they started with and to Grove Ends advantage, Singh and Baldeo found their form unleashing a barrage of bazookas that Randsons had no answer for. Grove End raced to a comfortable 25-14 victory to force the game into the third and final set. Grove End continued their dominance and ran out 15-11 winners to claim the Ralph Reuben Memorial Cup. Darnall United, Ralph Reuben's boyhood club ensured a podium finish beating Sunbrook 25-20, 25-18. STANGER At the presentation ceremony that took place after the final, WHOLESALERS Isaac Abraham, President of KDVA and uncle of Reuben, congratulated Grove End and thanked the Reuben Family for their sponsorship and for keeping the memories of 5 DAY SPECIALS ONLY WEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY Wholesale Price DireCt to the Public Ralph Reuben alive. 30 Mahatma Gandhi Street (opp. Seraps) ( 032 551 1731

tournament was hosted by KwaDukuza Volleyball Association and sponsored by the Reuben family in memory of their late son and prolific sportsman, Ralph which has now become an annual event. Reigning champions, Randsons entered the courts all psyched up wanting to retain the cup. They started the first set like a house on fire. Treval Pemlal together with Migs Govender and skipper Sandhir 'Tin Boy' Jugmohan were in devastating form converting Desmond Chetty's pin-pointed sets in to thunderous attacks. Grove Ends kingpins, Vinnie Singh and Niven Baldeo seemed to be out of sorts being blocked out by the Randsons. Ahmed Essack was outstanding for Grove End keeping the score board ticking and cornering Randsons at 11-
