President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that South Africa's adjusted level 3 lockdown regulations will be relaxed following a decline in Covid-19 transmissions. Ramaphosa lifts alcohol ban Continued from Page 1 responsibly so that we do not experience a spike in trauma cases or an increase in infections due to reckless behaviour. As we ease restrictions once again, the responsibility on each and every one of us as individuals becomes even greater. Let us remember that despite the clear progress we have made, the number of new cases is still high and there is an everpresent danger of a resurgence,” said Ramaphosa. • The hours of the curfew will now be from 23h00 04h00. Businesses such as restaurants will need to close by 22h00 to accommodate travelling for staff and customers; • Faith-based gatherings will now be permitted, subject to health protocols. This includes a limit of 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors; • Public places such as beaches and parks will be reopened, subject to health protocols; • Alcohol sales are permitted, with off-sites sales permitted between Monday and Thursday
between 10h00 and 18h00. On-site sales, at places such as restaurants, are permitted throughout the week between 10h00 and 22h00; • Political, sports and other gatherings are still not permitted; • Funerals may not be attended by more than 50 people; • It remains compulsory for every South African to wear a mask in a public place. The eased restrictions comes after South Africa received its first consignment of one million Covid-19 vaccines on Monday afternoon. These vaccines will now be tested for their integrity after their trip from India, after which they will be distributed to healthcare workers as part of the country's phase 1 rollout. The country will then move to phase 2 of the roll- out which will include essential workers, the elderly and those living with comorbidities. This will be further extended to all adult South Africans in phase 3. An online registration system will allow South Africans to book a place at a local vaccination centre as
purchased through Johnson & Johnson, and a further 20 million will be purchased through Pfizer. These vaccines will first be made available in Q2 2021, the president said. The president said that the country will achieve herd immunity once
67% of the population has been vaccinated. This amounts to around 40 million South Africans. Nobody will be forced to take the vaccine or be forbidden from travelling anywhere or taking part in any activity if they have not been
vaccinated, “We all want to be free of this disease. We all want to be safe, and for those we love to be safe. We aim to make the vaccine available to all adults living in South Africa, regardless of their citizenship or residence status,” said Ramaphosa.
Seven injured in a collision on the R102 in Tongaat COLLION: Seven people were injured following a collision on the R102 at the Buffelsdale entrance in Tongaat on Monday, 01 February 2021. Upon arrival of emergency services, seven people from a VW Polo and a Renault Clio were found to have sustained mild to moderate injuries. They were stabilized on the scene before being transported to the hospital by various private ambulance services. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Mayor tables 2019/2020 Annual Report from the previous financial year. DA Caucus Leader, Madhum said the DA has repeatedly called on council to improve service delivery, under expenditure means basic services are neglected and not maintained, “Irregular expenditure still remains a concern. R127m has been recorded. Lack of investigation and consequence management not holding officials accountable is not good governance. Bulk purchases
R39, 698 million or -4% is realised at the end of December 2020. The MidYear Budgeted Operating Expenditure for the 2020/2021 financial year was R887, 254 million. The actual expenditure recognised as of 30 December 2020 was R736, 896 million which implies that the municipality has realised a negative variance of approximately R150, 358 million in expenditure,” added the Mayor The Municipality approved R295, 382 million as a capital budget in the current financial year, with most of the funding being allocated towards electrical upgrades, road infrastructure projects and community recreational facilities. The budget was since reduced to R294, 763 million during the Special Adjustments Budget Process. In conclusion Cllr Dolly Govender mentioned that at the end of December 2020, Consumer Debtors reflected R240, 227,663 million. This indicates an increase of R22, 689,494 million from December 2019 in which the debt was R217, 538,169 million, highlighting an approximate 10% increase
Committee to intensify measures to reduce energy losses by conducting inspections on bigger consumers every Thursdays monthly. I will be reporting on this aspect in greater detail in the Mid-Year Budget and Performance Assessment Report. We have also dealt with repeated findings on irregular expenditure. The Solid Waste PPP has been finalised and is being implemented in the current financial year and this has eliminated the conducting of this service as irregular expenditure. Other focus areas included the grass cutting tenders which are hoping to finalise within Q1 of 2020/2021 and this will eliminate irregular expenditure related to this service. Also, the security tender is in the process of evaluation we have unfortunately missed our target to appoint by October 2020,” said Mayor Govender “In as far as the Section 72 M i d - Ye a r B u d g e t a n d Performance Assessment Report is concerned. The actual revenue billed and/or collected to date is R877, 507 million. The negative variance of approximately
On Thursday 28 January 2021 KwaDukuza Municipality Mayor Cllr Dolly Govender tabled the 2019/2020 Annual Report and 2020/2021 Section 72 M i d - Ye a r B u d g e t a n d Performance Assessment Report. In her address Mayor Govender said as far as the 2019/2020 Annual Report is concerned, a broad overview reflects that municipal performance decreased by 17% when compared to the previous financial year where it stood 64%. However, there has been a significant increase of 11% in Basic Service Delivery to 47% from 36% achieved in the previous financial year, “Some of the factors that have influenced our performance include COVID-19 and the National Lockdown, a lot of planned projects were delayed as most of the budgets was transferred to COVID-19 Disaster Projects, if it wasn't for the National State of Disaster, it is evident there would have been a much higher increase in Basic Service Delivery. In response to the increase in energy losses, the municipality has established a Debt Reduction Steering

Fatal drowning in Umvoti River
HOSPICE needs your help The Dolphin Coast Hospice Association is a non-profit organisation that provides FREE palliative and home-based care to terminally ill patients predominantly in the iLembe District. Due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Hospice has been unable to host our major fund raising drives which fund the functioning of the organisation. This has resulted in the organisation struggling to make ends meet. The Hospice is a registered NGO and NPO, and does not receive any funding from Government or Lotto. We hold a few annual fund raising events to sustain ourselves and cover our basic expenses, which averages around R20 000 per month. This monthly cost is the cost for rent, fuel, salaries for our nurse and caregivers, and other basic medical requirements for our patients, including diapers. The pandemic has severely affected our sustainability. The lockdown implemented by our government has prevented us from hosting any fund raising events, which comprise two dinner and dances, a golf day and a festive drive every year. As a result, our

financial state is dire, and we had no option but to retrench staff to cut costs and reduce expenses. The Hospice is now appealing to the public and businesses for financial assistance to keep our doors open and render this much needed service to terminally ill patients. Any donations will help us in our budget and planning to meet the ongoing fixed expenses that we have. All donations are tax deductible and relevant documents and receipts will be issued. The Hospice serves areas from Mandeni to Compensation, to Kearsney inland. Our nurses and caregivers call on our patients daily to provide the necessary care. We currently have approximately 120 patients under our care and the numbers are increasing daily. All donations are to be deposited directly into Hospice bank account. In the early hours, Sunday, 31 January 2021 IPSS Medical Rescue Search & Rescue division and other emergency services responded to the Umvoti River, in the Glendale area on reports that a five year old child was swept downstream. According to the statement from
IPSS Medical Rescue it's alleged the child was playing alongside the river, when she lost her footing, falling into the river and was swept away, “IPSS Medical Rescue, together with SAPS Police Divers, SAPS K9 SAR and NSRI, searched the river using a drone and
inflatable rafts. Her body was located and recovered approximately 3km downstream of where she entered the water. We remind all followers to exercise heightened caution around bodies of water and flowing water,” said IPSS Medical Rescue

Car insurers urge vehicle owners to obey Lockdown regulations
Bribery suspects nabbed with drugs
RECOVERED: On Thursday Police officers from the Durban Central Crime Prevention Unit arrested four suspects for possession of drugs and bribery.
On Thursday Police officers from the Durban Central Crime Prevention Unit arrested four suspects who were found in possession of drugs and bribery. The suspects aged between 27 and 38. According to KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele on Thursday at 16:00, the police officers were in a
police vehicle parked along Bertha Mkhize Road in Durban, CBD when an unknown person disposed of R500-00 wrapped in plastic and walked away, “When the police officers asked him what the money was for, he just jumped into his vehicle and drove off. The police officers chased the vehicle and managed to stop it and conducted a
search. The police officers found four men in the vehicle. The suspects were also found in possession of 66 packets of cocaine blocks wrapped in plastic,” said Mbhele. A cash amount of R6 000-00, suspected to be the proceeds of crime, was also seized from the suspects.
South Africans are rejoicing at the news that lockdown restrictions have been lowered to level two. This will allow drivers to move more freely between provinces but the curfew remains in place. Some drivers are questioning what are the insurance consequences of driving after curfew and being involved in a crash. The managing director of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says the company consulted their insurers to provide some context, “Our insurers say that a claim for a crash after curfew would not be rejected on those grounds alone. They however, encourage drivers to avoid being on the road after 10pm unless it is an emergency. Additionally, while they can speak to their own policies about the validity of claims that occur after 10pm, this may vary between insurers. Every driver should know what the stance of their insurer is with regard to post-curfew driving. This is especially for those driving home from a late shift and drivers who are legitimately allowed on the road at that time. Speak to your insurer now about what they expect
and your unique circumstances rather than argue it after the fact,” says Herbert. Drivers trying to reduce their monthly expenses are also advised against cancelling their insurance premiums. “Even if you will still be working from home for the foreseeable future, cancelling your insurance can have numerous negative results. Primarily, insurance is there to protect you when the unexpected happens, whether this is vehicle theft or a crash. As crime is expected to rise in the coming months cancelling insurance is a risky decision, “Additionally, it is a folly to think that you have no chance of crashing on your quick trip to the shop down the road. Research says that at least half of all crashes happen five minutes away from home because people drive with an 'auto' mind-set, face an increased chance of being involved in a parking lot collision and have a greater tendency to drive distracted. Ultimately, it could cost you thousands more,” added Herbert.

A popular home ingredient in aid to assist with home remedies, to help with common cold or soothe a sore throat. Ginger has become very popular during the covid-19
pandemic, it supposedly has the ability to mitigate symptoms. Although there's no scientific proof of it Before covid-19 last year the price of the root was r70 to r80kg, ever since the demand grew for it the price has drastically increased it now ranges from r199.99 to r400 per kg. University of the Free State registered dietician and nutrition lead for the South African Civil Society for Women's, Adolescents' and Children's Health (SACSoWACH) Dr Chantell Witten, said the current trend to consume ginger in lar4ge amounts beyond its traditional use as a spice. “In line with South Africa's healthy eating guidelines, we support the

increased intake for plant-based foods,” added Witten. Experts compared it to the trend for beetroot and garlic during the HIV crisis, in the 1990s and 2000s, beetroot and garlic were being promoted prior to the rollout of the antiretroviral drugs. “Given that the Covid-19 vaccine rollout is following a targeted and phased approach, the majority not included in those first phases are going to continue to use the home remedies that call for ginger, garlic and lemons. In the same breath, higher prices will keep consumption at bay. With a well-designed communication strategy for the vaccine rollout, people
Press will not use home remedies in place of the vaccines.” According to Agricultural economist Dr Kobus Laubscher, local ginger suppliers were not ready to meet the rocketing demand going into second half of 2020, “We are a primary producer,” Laubscher said. “Ginger farmers are smiling all the way to the bank, but it's not a product that's easily produced. The real ginger producers are benefiting from this. Suppliers of chains are saying they are in short supply so if you want it, you'll have to pay more. Laubscher was confident that consumers would see a price decrease as the lockdown restrictions ease, and the new season arrives. “We will see a decrease in prices, but we will see steady increases for now and the market will react. It's not sustainable at a consumer level.”

Babar Azam praised spin bowlers Nauman Ali and Yasir Shah who shared 14 wickets between them to lead Pakistan to an emphatic victory against South Africa in the first test in Karachi last Friday. Nauman, the 34-yearold who was playing his first test, took 5-35 while Yasir grabbed 435 to wreck the hopes of Quinton de Kock's side and secure a sevenwicket win. The South Africans, visiting Pakistan for the first time in 14 years, fell to 245 all out in their second innings on the fourth day.
Pakistan achieved the paltry 88run target in 22.5 overs for the loss of three wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The 34-year-old left-arm spinner Nauman finished with figures of 7-73 while leg spinner Yasir had 7-133. Azam, who captained Pakistan for the first time in a Test, said his spinners were outstanding. Pakistan took a crucial 158-run lead by scoring 378 in reply to South Africa's first innings total of 220 all out. Fawad Alam smashed his third hundred with

NEEDS YOUR HELP!!! THE Dolphin Coast Hospice Association is a nonprofit organisation that provides FREE palliative and home-based care to terminally ill patients predominantly in the iLembe District.
Due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Hospice has been unable to host our major fund raising drives which fund the functioning of the organisation. 109 while Faheem Ashraf (64) and Azhar Ali (51) were valuable contributors after Pakistan had slumped to 33-4 at close on day one. De Kock admitted Pakistan's batsmen played spin better. In contrast to pakistan's effective spin performance, South Africa's frontline spinner Keshav maharaj took just four wickets in the match and George Linde finished the match empty-handed. De Kock said the first innings failure cost his team the match.

Liverpool ensure City feels the heat Liverpool's impressive 3-1 victory at West Ham reminded City that there is no room for complacency. Manchester City extended their Premier League winning run to eight straight matches and saw a number of their main challenges falter over the weekend. Pep Guardiola's team edged past Sheffield United 1-0 before Manchester United drew 0-0 against Arsenal and Leicester lost 31 to Leeds.
But games are decided on fine margins and United are coming up short in some of the key moments
Tuchel relaxed over blunt Werner
Salah sparks Liverpool With Liverpool labouring to break down West Ham, Mohammed Salah rode to the rescue to ensure Manchester City feel some heat from the champions in their crucial clash this Sunday. Salah broke the deadlock with two superb finishes in the second half at the London Stadium, inspiring a 3-1 victory that moved Liverpool within four points of leaders City. Salah had gone six league games without scoring, but he rediscovered his predatory instincts at just the right moment. After a poor run, Liverpool have won their last two
Mohammed Salah rediscovers scoring form
games and will host City on Sunday in more confident mood, assuming they beat Brighton tonight (Wednesday).
Man Utd seek missing spark Manchester United have come off the boil quickly,
winning just one of the past four Premier League matches. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a deep squad and has rotated well but the impression remains that if a handful of key players do not fire, United fail to click. Midfielder Bruno Fernandes
has scored just once in the Premier League this year while forward Marcus Rashford is still waiting for his first league goal of 2021. United have played brilliant football in patches this season, particularly away from home. But they have rarely looked in control
of games and seem unable to stamp out costly mistakes at the back, such as lowly Sheffield United in midweek. If Pogba had scored in the closing stages against Liverpool and Edison Cavani had taken a late chance against Arsenal, the table would look different.
Thomas Tuchel had to rely on veteran defenders Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso to show his forwards how it is done as Chelsea won for the first time in his short reign. There are some promising signs for the former Paris Saints-Germain manager, who has taken four points out of a possible six in his two matches since replacing Frank Lampard. Callum Hudson-Odoi has impressed in both games on the right side of Chelsea's attack and Mason Mount has shown Tuchel he deserves to be in the starting line-up. But big summer signing Timo Werner is still looking for his first Premier League goal since early November, and fluffed a chance from close range in Sunday's 2-0 win at home to Burnley. A relaxed Tuchel has urged patience, suggesting the German forward needs a stroke of luck.

Khan appointed to govern sport in KZN Well known sports personality Aadil Khan has been recently elected onto the KwaZulu Natal Sports Confederation as one of 15 executive board members that will govern sports in the province. The confederation is responsible for 53 sporting federations and 11 district structures. The confederation also has the responsibility to give the potential and outstanding athletes in all codes an opportunity of becoming professionals. Khan was further humbled with his appointment as Head of Presidency and Chairperson of Marketing and Communication. He serves together with the likes of former acting Cricket South Africa President Professor Logan Naidoo and longstanding sport administrator and President of the confederation Thami Mchunu together with the Vice President of Swimming South Africa, Peter Thomson whom is currently Aadil Khan, executive member of KZN Sports Confederation

also the first Vice President of the confederation. Khan started in sport administration at an early age as the secretary of our Stanger and District Volleyball Association in 1998 and has come a long way with his achievements in sport that saw him in 2010 becoming an executive member of KZN Volleyball where he is currently serving to date. In 2020 he was elected onto the Confederation as an Executive Board Member. Khan was asked during the interview what some of his achievements were during that time he responded: “Let me start with my most recent and most prestigious accolade at this time in sport is my appointment to the KZN Sport Confederation where I currently hold two portfolios. In 2018 I was appointed as the HOD to the Kingdom Rhinos who participated in the National League which was held in Johannesburg for the full duration which saw the Rhinos win the National League being the only KZN Provincial sporting code that brought Gold home that year.” He went on by stating that during his years in volleyball he had accomplished a lot more than projected. However, he wishes that we as a community should ensure that the children of KwaDukuza and beyond should always have opportunities of participating in sport as not all are cut out to be academic achievers. Furthermore, Khan is not just a sport administrator. He is still active in sport at various levels as an athlete who also believes that every child must be given the opportunity to play sport as he blames government for removing Physical Education as a much desired subject in schools that feed the Federations thus producing professional athletes. He further stated that we watch all these different type of sport on television
and must ask the question as to how many come from public schools or poor communities. “We are currently living in an era where we have been hit by a world pandemic called COVID-19 and study has shown that being fit and healthy is one of the prerequisites we need to fight COVID-19,” Khan has added. He went by stating that our municipality's sport department has a catch that reads but stands to be corrected “A healthy mind in a healthy body”. He said that with the municipality having a sport indaba lately at Hampshire Hotel shows that the interest for sport in KwaDukuza is here and we must take this opportunity with two hands as our future needs it. He went by stating that his voluntary contribution in sport is purely by choice after his childhood experiences of not having the opportunity of participation at higher levels due to various reasons in sport administration and apartheid and he does not want children during his watch to experience such and advises that they must be protected from such activity. In conclusion, he expressed his thanks and appreciation to his wife Fayeza Khan, children Jowairrya, Zarah and Armani for putting up with him for all the time he spends out of his home and away from them for sport. He went on and expressed his gratitude he received over the years from a few other sport administrators like Isaac Abraham (Former President KDVA), Kruba Jaram (Secretary General KZNVB) and Deva Moodliar (President KZNVB) whom have added value in his life of sport administration from grass roots to provincial. He did not forget his volleyball family for having confidence in him administrating at a local and provincial level by reelecting him back into the executive for the past 22 years and beyond.
