KDAC Athletes participate in 'Checkstar Verulam Falcons Challenge with Vitality’

KwaDukuza Athletic Club (KDAC) athletes produced superb results at the 'Checkstar Verulam Falcons Challenge with Vitality'. The 10km and 21,1km marathons were hosted by the Verulam Falcons Athletic Club at the Kingspark Athletic Stadium this past Sunday. Yatish Narothum completed the 10km run in 1 hour which is his best race time yet. Yatish's goal is to represent KDAC at the Comrades
Marathon in the future.

Miriam Hoosen's consistent training paid off when she completed the 21,1km race in an admirable time of 2h,23min followed by Yathin Narothum, the KDAC President, who crossed the finish line in 2h,38min. The route was relatively flat and required hard work, however, favorable weather conditions and the athletes' unwavering perseverance resulted in the excellent race completion times. Yathin encourages the community to focus on fitness and health and to join KDAC as membership is still open. Yathin, further, urges the community to support The Stanger Training Centre Fun Run which is scheduled for Sunday, 7 May 2023, at 9am at the Kwa Dukuza Mall. Fun Run Tickets are available at Lighty Barbers Salon and are priced at R20,00 per ticket. Fun Run Tickets will also be sold at the venue on the day of the event.

Sundowns cruise into CAF Champions League semi-finals
Mamelodi Sundowns booked their spot in the CAF Champions League semi-finals after beating Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad 2-1 in Pretoria on Saturday. The victory was enough for the PSL champions to seal a 6-2 aggregate victory, having won the firstleg 4-1 away from home last weekend.

Freedom Day celebration at Glenhills Primary

Grade R Mini-Sports Day at KwaDukuza Primary
Kwa Dukuza Primary School hosted their annual grade R Mini-sports on Tuesday, 25 April 2023. The programme was an exciting one as parents got to cheer on their little ones on a day where everyone's a winner and sportsmanship is encouraged. Below are the learners along with their teachers along with the participants.
Glenhills Primary School commemorated Freedom Day last week by recalling the significance of the day in South African history. Seen are the school's Soul Buddyz together with with Principal Mr H Hurilal and facilitators Ms P. J Bissesser and Mrs T Naidoo.

Nutritious donation for local schools
Four schools from KwaDukuza Ward 25, namely Tshelabantu Primary, Nyakana Primary, Banguni Secondary and Shekembula High received a nutrition's boost amid failure by the KZN Education department to deliver food to schools. The food donation was made by local NGO Uguquko Youth Projects, in conjunction with Prosecure Security.
“We would like to thank our sponsors for the continued support.

Schools in rural areas are (severely) affected since most learner depend on school meals for their source of nutritious food. We hope that the KZN Department of Education will resolve the issue of delivering food to schools without any further delay,” stated Uguquko Chairperson, Vuyani Mathonsi.
Kwa Dukuza Primary School held their Annual Inter-House Athletics Meeting on Wednesday, 26 April 2023. Parents of learners were invited to attend for the first time since pre-covid. With the long weekend approaching, there was obvious excitement in the air and every athlete competed with desire and determination. At the end of the day, Azalea house were crowned winners on a successful sports day.
Local school receives agricultural implements

The departments of Agriculture and Health jointly donated agricultural implements to Mbozamo Primary School recently, in a bid to help the school supplement its healthy nutrition programme. Pictured are learners, educators and officials from both departments.
