waZulu Natal Premier, Mr TW Mchunu and his cabinet visited various wards in KwaDukuza to interact with residents regarding service delivery on 28 March 2018. The visit was part of Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS). OSS enables the government to interact easily with the community, this operation assists in fighting the ills of society. Premier Mchunu visited ward 29 accompanied by ILembe District Municipality Mayor Cllr S.S Gumede. Mchunu began by paying a visit to Groutville Clinic where nurses took the opportunity to raise their concerns regarding the high rate of crime in the area. Staff at the clinic pleaded with Mchunu to try and eradicate crime in the area.
“What I witnessed at Groutville Clinic is inhumane and it saddens me that our people cannot get the help they deeply need if the doctor is not at the clinic as he does not come in on certain days,” said Mchunu. The Office of the Premier said that they will work hand in hand with the Department of Health in the province to identity problems and come up with solutions. The Premier then proceeded to Dube Village Park, also situated in ward 29, where he handed over a house built by the SABBA Movement and various other organisations. During his visit to KwaDukuza, Mchunu listened to service delivery issues in a fully packed tent. Residents raised concerns about the lack of housing in the area, as well as the need to improve infrastructure. Residents also

raised the issue of theft of ARV drugs from patients from the clinic. Mchunu assured residents that they don't need to worry anymore as Director General Nonhlanhla Mkhize will be working on finding a long term resolution on this matter. “We've been informed that there is a high rate of unemployment as well as other issues that are a source of concern for residents. As the provincial government, we are here to take in all these concerns and ensure that all relevant arms of government are activated so as to find quick and lasting resolutions to these issues,” said Mchunu.

MEC Zikalala visits Doringkop By Xpress Reporter
PREMIER: KwaZulu Natal Premier Mr T.W Mchunu addressing the community of ward 29 during his visit last week
Continued from page 1 Criminals have no place in society and the fact that some drug dealers are known and live amongst the community did not sit well with Mchunu. Speaking in his native language he jokingly said “Amadoda awasekho yini kulendawo”. Mchunu also tackled the issue of high rate of alcohol abuse, after residents said that a high proliferation of taverns that operate on a 24 hour basis and have been identified as being the source of many criminal activities.
Mchunu said it's the community's responsibility to take care of the upcoming generation. Cllr S.S Gumede who accompanied the Premier, acknowledged the issues raised by the devastated community. “I have worked here before and I am familiar with the slow process of housing projects. Here in KwaDukuza we have a problem of land belonging to different departments, you cannot break ground until the land has been transferred to a relevant department,” said Cllr Gumede.
The MEC for Economic Development and Environmental Affairs, Mr Sihle Zikalala and KwaDukuza Mayor Cllr. Ricardo Mthembu visited Ward 25 where they entered into a number of community activities. This was part of the drive for the roll out of Operation Sukuma Sakhe, where the KwaZulu Natal Cabinet led by the Premier made several inroads in KwaDukuza on 25 March 2018. MEC Zikalala delivered tables and chairs to Zizamele Early Childhood Development Center and handed over a new house to three orphaned children. The MEC later addressed the Ward 25 War Room where a number of community successes and issues were highlighted. Water supply remains the biggest challenge there. The MEC used this opportunity to inform the community of market successes that can be attained in the implementation of Operation Vula and the Radical Agrarian SocioEconomic Transformation (RASET). These interventions are aimed at addressing economic challenges of the past, particularly the previously marginalized by localizing and the exploiting governments buying power through the establishment of SMMEs and cooperatives.

New home for Groutville resident By Xpress Reporter
Cristina Masondo of Dube Village, Groutville received the keys to her new home last Wednesday. The home was handed over by the KwaZulu Natal Premiere Mr T.W Mchunu during his visit to KwaDukuza. Masondo has lived in a shack for almost her entire life. Ward 29 Councillor, Njabulo Cele came across the revolting conditions at Masondo's house during the 2016 election campaign. Fortunately for him, the SABBA Movement volunteered to help with quality material to build a new house. Councillor Cele thanked all the organizations who offered to help, as well as the
community who assisted without expecting any sort of payment. “None of this would have been possible if it was not for all the people who offered to help. I'm happy that Cristina won't have to worry about the rain pouring inside her house during rainy days,” said Cele. Cristina Masondo, who couldn't hold back tears of joy, said that she appreciates the efforts made by the councillor to give her a proper house. “I thank you Njabulo, may God bless you with many glorious years and I would be a miss if I don't thank SABBA Movement. Words fail to describe how happy I am to receive this house,” she said.

Nomzamo Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed away at the age of 81 at Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after fighting an illness for a long time. Her family issued a statement on Monday. “It is with profound sadness that we inform the public that Mrs Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed away. She died after a long illness, for which she had been in and out of the hospital since the start of the year. She succumbed peacefully in the early hours of Monday afternoon surrounded by her family and loved ones,” said family spokesperson, Victor Dlamini. It's no secret that Madikizela Mandela stood for what she believed in and that was what made her unique from the rest. The KwaDukuza Municipality joined many South Africans in mourning the shocking death of Winnie MadikizelaMandela who was considered as a pillar of strength to many South Africans. The Mayor's office issued a statement saying, “The mother of our Nation as she was affectionately known sacrificed her life for the liberation of African people, blacks in particular during oppression under apartheid rule. She defied apartheid banishment, detentions without trail and the pain of being a mother and father to her children because of husband's incarceration. It is her undying love for her people, her commitment to the freedom of our nation and her sacrifices in the struggle that endeared her to all South Africans. Ulale ngoxolo mama wethu, the municipality dips its flag in celebrating you, the greatest and most cherished daughter of the soil.” The KwaZulu Natal Premier Mr T.W Mchunu

POETRY: Seen is Ntobeko Nkwanyana at Open Doors Barack Centre stage reciting one of his mesmerising poems
By Xpress Reporter
Shakaville resident, Ntobeko Nkwanyana, famously known as 'Lethu' on stage, has taken the poetry industry by storm. On 17
March 2018 Nkwanyana, working together with KwaDukuza Youth Ministry, organised an event which was welcomed with warm hands by KwaDukuza citizens. The event was held
at Open Doors Barack Centre. The main purpose was to introduce Nkwanyana to his home crowd as he has performed in various stages such as BET Centre, Wits University, Luthuli Museum just to mention a few. Nkwanyana who is currently under Kumele Kwaziwe Poetry Club was thrilled with the show. “I'm humbled and I am thankful to the people of KwaDukuza, words are not enough to express my gratitude. It was my first time performing here but people came in numbers. I will continue to work hard and make sure to recite good poems. It has not been an easy journey but through God I believe it's possible,” said the talented Lethu. Lethu went on to urge citizens of KwaDukuza to support young talent. “We are young but we are determined, all we need is support from our communities. I use poetry as a platform to encourage people at my age or younger than me that drugs and shortcuts do not get you anywhere in life. I would be a miss if I did not acknowledge my bishop who has been with me through thick and thin.” Ntobeko Nkwanyana mentioned that he's available for hire for functions.

World Autism Awareness Day By Xpress Reporter
World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) aims to put a spotlight on the hurdles that people with autism and others living with autism face every day. As a growing global health issue owing to its increasing exposure in the press and common knowledge, autism is an issue that is only gaining more understanding and WAAD activities are planned every year to further increase and develop world knowledge of children and adults who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). World Autism Awareness Day goes one step further to celebrate the unique talents of those with autism, while putting a huge focus on the warm embrace and welcome that these skills deserve through community events around the globe. Autism spectrum disorder
(ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. ASD is a neurological disability and people with ASD may communicate, interact, behave,
and learn in ways that are different from most other people. The learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities of people with ASD can range from gifted to severely impaired. Some people with ASD need high support (a lot of help and
intensive intervention) while others need low support (less help and less intensive intervention). The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 62/139, tabled by the State of Qatar, in 2007 to declare 2 April as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD). World Autism Awareness Day shines a light on autism as a growing global health problem. Part of this day is the Light It Up Blue campaign, where over 160 countries worldwide get involved in the awareness campaign by lighting up landmarks, buildings and cities all around the world. The South African public is encouraged to shine blue lights, hoist blue flags and wear blue clothes as a symbol of solidarity with persons with autism and their families' struggles to be recognised as equal citizens.

Manor jubilant after latest victory
Manor Cricket Club continued its rich vein of form by trouncing Morningside Cricket Club by 105 runs on Sunday at the Gledhow Country Club Grounds in the iLembe and District Cricket Union 50 over league. Morningside Cricket Club won the toss and had no hesitation in opting to bowl on a damp wicket. S. Dlamini and S. Bageloo put on 38 runs for the opening stand on a difficult wicket. Dlamini was bowled by S. Dewlal scoring 26. M. Logenathan joined Bageloo
and helped in a 25 run partnership before M. Logenathan was caught in the deep of the bowling of Sheldon Madurai. Chinachanoo scored a patient 40 and Saieshan Logenathan, 38 and skipper Comfort Shange 41. Manor amassed a total of 229 in their allotted 50 overs. The pick of the Morningside
A splendid hat trick by Luqman Moosaji was enough to sink Dawnheights in a rain affected iLembe District Cricket Union T20 league game played at the Gledhow Grounds this past weekend, giving Ashrafiyyah their biggest win this season. Dawnheights batted first and were bundled out for a paltry 82 runs in 19.2 overs. Moosaji was superb in attack. Besides claiming a hat trick, he was at his miserly best conceding just 9 runs in
Vinesh Geanballey captured the KwaDukuza Darts Association pre-season singles crown after cruising to a straight sets victory in the final of the Dhodoi's Fast Food sponsored tournament held the Quartz Sports Bar last Wednesday. Playing in the bottom half of the draw, Geanballey had to first oust former playeroff-the-year Sanjay Singh in a hard fought 2-1 victory in the quarter finals to set up a semi-final clash against Vasa Rungasamy who had earlier in his quarter final clash also defeated Leon Muthusamy 2-1. In the semi-final, Rungasamy shocked the inform Geanballey by moving 1-0 ahead after winning the first game. Geanballey showed his experience whilst holding his nerve and gritting it out to win the next 2 games to advance to the final 2-1. Meanwhile, in the top half of the draw, youngster Justin Naidoo was strutting his stuff beating the experienced Nine Pillay 2-1 to advance into the semi-final to face Devan

Gounden. Gounden had earlier accounted for another youngster, Aston Muthusamy. The semi-final was closely contested. Naidoo's form continued a he won the first game only for Gounden to bounce back and level the scores 1-1. The up and coming Naidoo showed his determination as he held on to win the final game to book his place in the final and set up a mouth-watering clash against Geanballey. Geanballey's experience and the lack of BMT (big match temperament) by Naidoo saw Geanballey cruise to a 2-0 victory (albeit a closely fought final) to seal the crown.
