IDM concludes women's month on high note

K9 Search and Rescue Officer at the Umhlali K9 Unit, Clinton Odayar is one of the five finalists of the 2019 Integrity Icons campaign. Odayar was nominated by a member of the public for consideration, before a panel of judges selected the five Integrity Icons. The campaign celebrates honest public servants. Odayar has been instrumental in finding many missing people. He also conducts anti-drug and anti-bullying workshops, as well as safety awareness talks at schools. He said that it's an honour to be recognised as an Integrity Icon, especially on a national level. Odayar has been a dedicated officer and now requires your vote. WOMEN'S MONTH: Aerobics session

In the spirit of Women's Month, the iLembe District Municipality in partnership with its Family of Municipalities closed off the 2019 Women's Month with a celebration for female councillors, employees and some members of the community. The celebration was held on Friday, 30 August 2019 at the Salt Rock main beach in KwaDukuza under the theme "25th year of democracy, growing South Africa

together for women emancipation." A partnership between the Family of Municipalities and the Department of Arts, Sports and Recreation saw councillors and officials in the iLembe Family of Municipalities taking part in various sports activities such as aerobics, netball, beach volleyball, tug of war, hoola hoops, rugby ball throw, balloon games and other recreational games. The ladies of iLembe were

also treated to a delicious lunch and inspiring presentations by professional women such as the Deputy Mayor of iLembe District Municipality Cllr Dolly Shandu, the chairperson of the Gender sub-committee Cllr Nompumelelo Zungu and KwaDukuza based businesswoman Mrs. Nokuthula Mpunzana who owns various businesses in steel production, pharmaceuticals and others in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces.

ZMS learners excel at AMS Qiraat competition Four learners from ZMS participated in the AMS Qiraat (Quranic Recitation) Contest hosted by Verulam Islamic School on Saturday, 17 August 2019. Altogether 13 Schools belonging to the Association of Muslim Schools (AMS) were represented. There were two categories Senior (Grades 8 to 12) and Junior (Grades 4 to

7) and there were 25 participants in each category. ZMS learners, Hafez Mohammed Talha of Grade 12 achieved 3rd position in the Senior category and Faheem Patel of Grade 5 was declared the winner of the Junior category. The other ZMS participants were Mohammed Hassim from Grade 9 and Abdullah Ismail

of Grade 5. All participants received certificates and the winners received cash prizes as well. The School Management congratulates the ZMS learners on their fine achievement and also wish to thank Ustadh Moulana H. Pandor for preparing the learners.

KwaDukuza resident, Nishani Duwarka eclipsed 600 other candidates to be placed top student in the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) professional evaluation examinations held in May 2019. Duwarka achieved her Bachelor of Accounting Science degree from the University of South Africa in 2012. She is currently studying towards her Honours in Financial Accounting. Presently she is employed at Kreston KZN, (formerly Ebrahim Jamal & Associates) based at their KwaDukuza office as an Accountant.

Nishani has been with the Firm since 2013. According to Saipa's Professor Small “500 candidates were graduates of SAIPA's project achiever programme running up to the professional evaluation. Although intended to prepare attendees, the goal of the programme is to instil in them the critical soft skills, technical insights and mental attitude that make a wellrounded professional accountant." Stanger Hospital Issuing of files: Outpatient Department

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed that the decision on who will replace erstwhile KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu will be made “by the end of this week”. Speaking to the Xpress Times this week, ANC provincial spokesperson and former KwaDukuza mayor Mthembu said the issue of the new mayor would be resolved this week. The ANC is also expected to announce the new mayor and new speaker for Mandeni Municipality. KwaDukuza deputy mayor Dolly Govender and Mandeni deputy mayor Phindile Sishi have been acting as

mayors in the respective municipalities, since the May departure of Ricardo Mthembu who joined the provincial legislature, and the resignation of former Mandeni mayor Siphesihle Zulu. Reliable sources within the party have questioned what they have described as an “undue delay” in settling the question of replacement for these key positions, whilst the issue of Ethekwini and Umsunduzi municipalities was hastily dealt with by the provincial leadership. The provincial executive committee (PEC) of the ANC has meanwhile began the process of installing a new regional task team (RTT) to run the party within iLembe District (General Gizenga Mpanza Region), after the regional executive committee (REC)

I am writing this letter on behalf of many patients visiting or attending the hospital, either for review or to fetch their medication. It is a great disappointment after a long period of time, patients are told that their files or charts cannot be found. Patients arrive at the hospital as early as 4am just to be seen by a doctor or to visit the pharmacy. Some patients reside in the outskirts of Stanger and have to pay transport costs to arrive at the hospital early only to be told to come on another day. The issuing of files department is in shambles. My question to the hospital board is, “Are you aware of the problem in the said department?” If they are, are they playing deaf and dumb as if all is smooth sailing? Are they aware of new technology? The old and outdated system should be scrapped, making way for the latest technology. What stance are they taking to curb this current crisis at this department? Sunbrook burst Darnall bubble The game to watch last Thursday was the battle between table topping Darnall United and Sunbrook Volleyball Club when they clashed in the second round of the KwaDukuza Volleyball Association league at the association courts. The huge spectator base of both teams were in awe by the display of top shelve volleyball displayed by both teams. Sunbrook were nothing short of brilliant as they spooked the title contender's right from the outset. In the opening set, Sunbrook had a healthy eight point lead but threw it away. Darnall Clawed their way back into the game with true championship material and

At the break for the change of courts, manager and coach, Devan Chinakoo's motivational speech to his charges saw Sunbrook come out firing on all cylinders. Kyle Chinakoo and Lee Perumal attacked with venom with unable to respond. Both kept the scoreboard ticking as they led Sunbrook to a glorious 25-20 win and force the game into the final set. They matched MOB in all departments going down 2527 in the first set and 25-18 in the second. As usual, Cool Leaders got their breath back in the second set after losing the first set to Glenhills 25-15. They returned the favour in the second set winning 25-16 and clinched the game 15-10 in the third set. Bethel had the better of Heights winning 25-13, 2514.
