It never rains With all his struggles and hardships over rain, Hlabisa believed that his ill luck had at last deserted him. However, when he returned home from work he was shocked to find his door ajar. Upon entering, he found that his television, DVD player and CD's were missing. He had a suspect in mind. That same night he arrested Nkosi Ndlovu (23) who confessed to the crime. The items were sold at the Ntshawini area and police are still to locate them. Ndlovu is expected at court this week to seek bail. On a spree with Oree Sehadew Oree of Tongaat who is contracting in the Doringkop area is one disappointed man. Last Thursday he received a call from his TLB operator at about midnight informing him that the machine had been damaged. From the tone of the driver's speech he could

determine that he was intoxicated. On Friday, Oree located the TLB which had been illegally used by the driver after hours, without consent. Police were contacted and the operator, Albert Ngcongo (43) of Isipingo was charged for using the TLB without consent and causing damages estimated to be about R40 000 to the equipment. Ngcongo was remanded in custody and Oree has to now hire another TLB operator to continue the contract. Monkeying around Living in Monkey Town is no fun. The impoverished residents mostly live here because they simply have no choice. Despite most residents having a similar lifestyle, some have resorted to preying on others who have jobs. The latest victim, Gift Vilakazi returned home and found his premises broken into. All his favourite clothing was stolen. He

alerted his uncle about the problem and he conducted an investigation which led him to one of the area's notorious characters. Xolani Dube (21) was arrested and charged for housebreaking. He too will spend a week in police cells as police ascertain whether he qualifies to be released on bail. Good business So profitable has the sale of illegal cigarettes become that one Mozambican has been coming to Stanger to ply his trade. Local Crime Prevention officers acting on a tip off approached a white mini-bus with foreign number plates last week at Shakaville. Upon inspecting the vehicle they ascertained that the door pads were loose and removed them. The officials discovered 31 cartons of GT cigarettes concealed in the mini bus. Gabriel Tembe (30) was charged for being in possession of counterfeit goods and remanded in custody. Half truths A late night drinking spree left Lindani Mnqayi with more than a hangover when he awoke the following day. Mnqayi realised that he had forgotten to lock his door and recalled two youths following him. Someone made off with groceries, clothing and cash. He began making enquiries and arrived at the house of his two stalkers. He spotted some of his property inside their room and they agreed to return his items to him. 2013. According to her husband, Mr S Ramkilawan, his wife left home at around 8am when a youth tried to stop the car.

“My wife was driving when a young man tried to stop her. He then hit the windscreen with a large stone before attempting to open the door but my wife kept driving,” said Ramkilawan. He added that the suspect continued to chase after the car on foot. According to Constable Khumalo of the KwaDukuza SAPS, a case has been opened. “No suspects have been arrested and the matter is under investigation,” said Khumalo. write-off your debt, we will do so,” he said. In both meetings, members of the community were given an opportunity to ask the panel questions. These included whether the prepaid metres have been tried and tested in other areas, if the new metres would be safe and locked away from children and criminals, whether council would consider making 'smart'cards for standpipes instead. Addressing the issue of criminals who are terrorising the community of Shakaville by stealing taps and tampering with their metres, His Worship said the community should stand together and fight crime. “You cannot continue living in fear. T h e s e criminals are known to you and it is time you expose them. What you need to do is to come together as the people of Ward 18 and stand up a g a i n s t crime,” said PUBLIC MEETING: Councillor Welcome Mdabe addressing the people of the Mayor. Shakaville

High water bills will soon be a thing of the past for Darnall and Shakaville residences in KwaDukuza as the iLembe District Municipality continues to implement new prepaid water metres to the rest of the district. iLembe District Municipality Mayor, Councillor Welcome Mdabe and members of the district's executive committee visited Darnall and Shakaville on 29 September 2013 to introduce the new prepaid metre system to the residents. “Residences will punch the numbers on the slip into the pad inside their home and water will flow instantly. Once the water purchased

runs out the device will shut down and water will stop flowing immediately,” said Mdabe. He urged residences to include water bills into their monthly budgets like they do with clothing accounts and cellphone bills. He said prepaid metres was the solution the municipality has come up with to assist residences to manage their accounts better. In Shakaville, Mdabe explained that households would be dealt with individually in as far as writing off debts is concerned. “We are asking individuals to come foward and talk to us. If you present your case in such a way that requires us to

iLembe District Muncipality gears up for Work and Play Festival By Xpress Reporter

It is that time of the year again where public servants in the iLembe District Muncipality swop their work for a fun filled day in sporting activities. Government departments within iLembe including Health, South African Police Services, Local Municipalities and the District Municipality and many others will be taking part in the Work and Play Festival to be held on Friday, October 11 at Stanger High School in KwaDukuza. The Festival forms part of an employee wellness programme which seeks to encourage active, healthy and productive public sector employees known as the Work and Play Programme. The Work and Play Project Manager for iLembe Mr Mbongiseni Mthembu said that the aim of the Festival was to promote the programme. “The concept is based on an understanding that government employees are usually stressed out by the nature of the work they do and don't make enough to

Municipal workers showing of their skill at last year's event

afford leisure, which is something that is necessary for their health and wellbeing,” he said. Mthembu added that the games would create an atmosphere where workers can relax, enjoy themselves and forget about work issues

for a few hours while socialising with colleagues He said sporting codes that will be played are football, netball and volleyball. The Work and Play Festival will take place at Stanger High School on Friday, October 11 from 9:00am.

MAAM RASHIM

AFTER 5-YEARS OF SEPERATION ‘‘HE RECENTLY CAME BACK’’ Many years back before I meet this powerful spiritual Maam Rashim, there was no happiness in my life because my husband cheated on me. In fact he later separated from me too & left the kids with me to suffer, I visited priests, gurus & healers for help. Sandile & his wife Money was wasted without any (4 days after prayers) results. Luckily I saw testimonials on a local TV station about another man whose son Maam Rashim had saved from drugs & alcohol abuse. I paid R200 for consultation. He accurately read my fortune & told me all my problems without me mentioning a word. He even used a mirror to show me real-faces of people who were trying to pull me down. Maam Rashim performed a special prayer for me, cleansed me from bad-luck and also gave me powerful love-crystals plus a special ring (to fix my financial problems) Four (4) days after prayers my husband was back home asking for forgiveness. It's a shocking state of affairs!! Thank you so much to all dedicated, loyal readers of my column for the sentiments you express via electronic media, and whenever we meet in our beloved town. Amidst all the acclaim, I am often asked why I write. My reason is that write so that the consciences of those who want to be 'in charge' of our lives will be awakened and they will amend their unacceptable behavior as paid members of the government. It is certainly not meant to rile or offend anybody! Although there's so much happening…KDM's failed pledge to correct the 2012 road gaffe of Albert Luthuli Street; a leading secondary school allegedly disposing of state equipment without due protocol; the resignation of KZN police spokesman Colonel Vincent Ndunge over a forged matric certificate (Matric? Are you insane my man? You should have forged a higher education degree!!), unaccountable expenditure of revamped council chambers; unfair labour practices in Ballito; etc, I'll have to defer these stories and address them later. This week's story is a rather personal one, as for 3 consecutive weeks the electricity supply in Lindley Street had been disconnected from Thursday 2.30 a.m. until 13.00 on Friday afternoon. Several readers told me about many hours spent without water and electricity in their areas. On each occasion I called at least four times, and was met with the same response. A call centre staff, told me that copper cables were stolen (only Lindley Street?). This past Friday was the final straw, and after something incoherent being mumbled to me by a young female receptionist from Umhlanga Ridge (I assume there's no competent ones in Stanger, so we have to

employ one and pay her a travelling allowance!!) off I marched in a stinky, 'unshowered mood' to the Electricity Dept to face the head honcho. To my disbelief I was met by a 30- year old young man, who told me that he was still studying to be an engineer, but he was functioning as KDM Manager (Electricity Dept!!). Heavens above! In all the years that the good Lord kept me in my beloved Stanger I have met some very old, experienced, hands-on technicians, who surely deserve to be in some senior position. I will not comment on the very fancy 4x4 that he drove, and asked him permission to touch it, as I will never afford one like that. What has become of promotion based on good, oldfashioned expertise and education? Has this been replaced by something sinister and is there a dubious agenda being advanced? God forbid! My team and I asked him some easy questions,(he is young, you know!) and the same woeful tale of cable theft emerged followed by a string of apologies. The sub-station door in Colenbrander Street(Opposite the Child Welfare building) was open, as the lock was hacked off. I then advised him to install systems in place (electrified fencing and alarms…), he thanked me, and I left, slightly placated. Yes, I did take a shower at the end of my saga. It's still Wednesday, so I'm preparing to take a shower on Friday at a friend's house away from Lindley Street! Keep your thoughts flowing and the letters rolling

School sells assets worth R500 000 for R25 000! The governing body of a school stands in a position of trust towards the school and when undertaking its functions and duties it must at all times promote the best interests of the school. It seems, however, that this is not the case with the governing body of Stanger Manor Secondary School. It has come to light that the governing body of Stanger Manor Secondary school recently sold State property valued at approximately R500 000 for a ridiculously low amount of R25 000. This is maladministration and corruption at the highest level. It is clear that this school governing body is not working in the best interests of the school. The school had at some stage offered metalworking and woodworking as subjects and the Department of Education furnished two workshops for this purpose. However, over time the subjects were discontinued

and the equipment remained unused. In disposing of the equipment the school governing body flouted provisions of the South African School's Act, 1996 and the kwaZulu Natal School Fund Regulations. The SGB also failed to follow fair, honest and transparent procedures when selling the equipment. The equipment is State property which was transferred to the school and according to the South African School's Act, "No person may alienate any assets owned by a public school to another person or body without the written approval of the Member of the Executive Council". The SGB in the absence of obtaining such approval went ahead and sold the equipment. The Natal Fund Regulations require that a Board of Survey be conducted to enquire into

damaged, obsolete or unused school assets and recommendations be made to the SGB on how to dispose of them. In this instance no such Board of Survey was held. No expert valuation of the equipment was done before setting the selling price. All the equipment was sold for just R25 000. Individuals working in the field of industrial equipment estimated the value to be R500 000. The sale was not publicly advertised and no competitive bidding processes were followed. A buyer was handpicked by the governing body. This is unprocedural and smacks of nepotism and corruption. The school governing body needs to account to the parents of learners at Stanger Manor Secondary school as well as to the KZN Department of Education for their conduct in this matter. School Watch

• How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on. • In an argument, a woman always has the last word. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument. • Hospitality: making your guests feel like they're at home, even if you wish they were. • Women may not hit harder, but they hit lower. • Someone stole all my credit cards, but I won't be reporting it. The thief spends less than my wife did. • If a man is wrong and he shuts up he is wise but if he is right and he shuts up then he is married • Knowledge is power, and power corrupts. So study hard and be evil. • An escalator can never break it can only become stairs.

The Shakaskraal and Districts Diwali Celebration promises to be bigger and better this year. The celebration will be held on 25 and 26 October 2013 at the Shakaskraal Secondary School Grounds. On Friday, 25 October 2013, the Hawan and local satsang groups will engage in a night of prayer. On Saturday, 26 October 2013, the celebration kicks off at 2pm with local talents performing. Aashiqui Showband will perform from 4pm till 7pm. Also included in the programme will be a Miss Diwali Competition. Corporate Companies are requested to fund our Miss Diwali entrants. The companies will provide the entrant with a sash bearing

the company name and a bouquet of flowers. To enter, contact Sivi Chonan on 084 604 1075. A grand fireworks display will kick start the evening programme with local radio personality Pravesh Sunker entertaining the crowd. Supper will be provided. Other attractions include a jumping castle for the kids and non food stalls are available at a reasonable fee. To book a stall, contact Sharika Dhani on 081 271 1874. Injured child in need of funds On 14 June 2013, our amazing and wonderful son, Kashveer Singh (14), was brutally attacked by thugs on his way home from school. An innocent, brilliant, kind and respectable lad faced

the worst day of his life when his attackers caused severe grievous harm to his eye and brain. Our child underwent emergency brain surgery that night and with our prayers and the heavenly touch of the neurosurgeon our son survived. He has spent 3 months in ICU and was recently sent to the neuro- rehabilitation centre at Entabeni Hospital. His stay in ICU was extremely difficult, with many complications but with our prayers and that of so many other people our son was able to be transferred to the rehabilitation centre. We are so proud of our son as he endured the pains and

sufferings throughout his stay in ICU. He is a very strong child and fought his way to the road to recovery. At present he cannot walk or talk and his functions are limited. On the positive side he is able to identify family and friends and can eat. Rehabilitation is paramount to his recovery and an essential part of another stage of our son's life. At present we are faced with a severe financial constraint due to the mounting medical bills. Our medical aid has been exhausted and our hospital and specialists bills that are unpaid are considerable. Furthermore the medical aid does not cover the rehabilitation costs. Our humble appeal to all is to please help us financially with any amount

possible to cover these costs and to most importantly, help our son recover. We hope and pray and remain confident that he will make a full recovery. We thank you all for accepting this letter from us. God bless you. With Samuli Powder TRUE STORY

SPECIAL PRAYERS & SPIRITUAL WATERS FOR LUCK & MONEY SPELLS

Vanessa (40) - Musgrave. We would like to inform the world that it really works as we won the money in Suncoast casino using Mama Madina’s Samuli powder . We first heard about Mama Madina last year but we couldn’t believe it first until last month when our aunt went to her and her life changed after she won a lot of jack pots at suncoast casino. My husband and I were very deep in debts our house was almost going away by the banks our cars were already repossessed, so we decided to try Mama Madina’s Samuli powder we booked an appointment and went to her. She charged us and read out our fortune, we were so surprised when she told us every thing, she even touched the days we met and the reason why we were failing in life. She prayed for us and gave us the samuli powder to use. We began by playing the machines and later went to the tables. Everyone was looking at us. We were winning, we won a lot in the casino. Now that we have money our lives have changed. We paid of our debts bought a new house and now we opening new businesses. We testify out of our faith that Mama Madina has served us all in our family, she is God sent. We regard her as our family mother. Our children are back to good schools. Platinum Stars hold their nerve to win MTN 8 Finals

Platinum Stars beat Orlando Pirates 3-1 on penalties to lift their first ever MTN8 Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening. The rain-drenched match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes, with Thabo Matlaba's 85th-minute screamer having cancelled out Robert Ng'ambi's header early in the second half. The game started in bizarre circumstances when Andile Jali took to the field, despite the final team-sheets having him on the bench with Lehlogonolo Maselesa instead starting. The first chance of the night fell to Dikwena in the fourth minute when Siphelele Mthembu gathered the ball on the edge of the area from a poor headed clearance beat two defenders and ran at Senzo Meyiwa, but Rooi Mahamutsa stepped in with a timely block. The second half had barely got underway when Stars took the lead. Tintswalo Tshabalala whipped in a free-kick from the right which was flicked on by Mhlongo and headed home from two yards out by Ng'ambi. It was all Pirates after that as Stars opted to sit back and defend the lead, with the excellent Tshepo Gumede at the heart of the defensive effort. He needed to be at his best on 65 minutes to prevent Jali's clever chip from reaching Segolela in the box. Bucs continued to pile on the pressure; pressure which finally paid off five minutes before the final whistle courtesy of second half substitute Matlaba, who received the ball 25 yards from goal and smashed a thunderous shot which left Mpontshane rooted to the spot. Into extra time Pirates should have had the lead on 102 minutes. Again Matlaba produced the magic down the left and played in the perfect 1 Room, ball, but somehow substitute separate Joseph Molangoane contrived to toilet/bathroom. miss from three yards out. Mikailin does it again! Mikailin Naicker did Stanger proud over the weekend when he was selected for the second successive year to represent KZN in the under 17 KZN Schools competition under the auspices of the KZN Cricket Union. Naicker, Irshad Moolla and Aaron Pillay represented KwaDukuza in this prestigious tournament held at various venues in Durban from last Thursday to Saturday. Naicker was ecstatic to learn that, at the end of three gruelling days of cricket featuring the best in KZN, he received his KZN colours. According to Naicker, the cherry on the top was when he was nominated as the captain of the KZN team. “This was really unexpected. I tried hard to do my best and leave the rest up to the selectors. I was pleasantly surprised when I was requested to captain the side,” said an excited Naicker. Naicker plays for Dawnheights Cricket Club in the Challenge League. Suveer Maharaj, spokesman of the club, was over the moon at this achievement stating, “Mikailin has Proud Mikailin select for the KZN cricket team

done us proud. He is a dedicated and committed player who is on the threshold of achieving greatness. We definitely want to see him featuring in the KZN Dolphin side soon! Being selected as the captain changes the role Mikailin will have to play as this now demands more focus, concentration and will be an excellent challenge for him. However we feel that he will be capable of handling this role as his talent, skill and knowledge of the game surpasses many.” A humble Naicker thanked his primary school teachers who encouraged him and groomed him in the sport and his current club. He admitted that his greatest source of inspiration was his dad, Tarzan Naicker, his two brothers Loveshan and Preveshan and his mum Anusha who always play a supporting role in his sporting career. Naicker, together with the KZN team, will be participating for the U17 Boys Cricket Week in the first week of December in Kimberley. The Xpress team and Stanger wishes Mikailin well! Make us proud!

Teachers Style once again recorded a double victory when they beat both Preston and Sunbrook in their double header clash in the KDSA social volleyball league played under the aegis of the Stanger and District Volleyball Association last Thursday. This comes after their double victory a fortnight ago, applying more pressure on log leaders Titans. Teachers started of their tie against Preston and immediately raced to a 25-16 win over the youthful Preston outfit. However, Preston shocked their more illustrious counterparts keeping pace with every point. They eventually stunned Teachers with a 2523 victory to level the match 1-1 to force the game into the third and decisive set. Teachers experience showed in the final set as they won the set 15-8. With the win under their belt, Teachers showed their prowess in their second outing against Sunbrook. In

the opening game, attackers Ponch Milligan and inspirational skipper, Nazir Khan received a bevy of near perfect sets from Raja Pillay which they hammered all over the courts leaving Sunbrook in sixes and sevens. Sunbrook attacked through brothers Sumen and Sugan Govender to keep the scoreboard ticking. However, Teachers always had their nose in the front to claim the set 25-20. In the second set Khan served beautifully to give Teachers a 10-2 lead. He then substituted himself for his son Shezhaad and also brought on Dinesh Bhowanic. These duo also wreaked havoc on Sunbrook who themselves relied on the Govender brothers and lanky Leon to keep pace with Teachers. Unforced errors brought Sunbrook back into the game as they the gap to just two points. However, Teachers kept their nerve to win 25-23 and to register their double victory. Meanwhile, Titans

remained at the summit of the table with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Cool Leaders. Titans won the first set 25-18 but had to dig deep in their reserves to take the second set as Cool Leaders sprawled all over the courts to retrieve the ball. They eventually succumbed 28-30 to the log leaders. In the other match played Virgo seem to have their act together as they went on to register a 2-1(25-17; 25-27; 15-9) win over Darnall Action Sporting. In the EZE's Electrical competitive league, Randsons moved two points clear to the top of the league with a 2-0 victory over arch rivals Grove End. In a hard fought game Randsons won the game 26-24 and 25-23. If Randsons wins their game against reigning champs KSST tomorrow (Thursday), they can go on to claim the league. KSST kept pace with a resounding 25-19, 25-13 win over Warriors Sports.

It's all systems go for the KwaDukuza schools cricket camp initiated by Desigan Pillay and Saidi Mhlongo. The cricket camp will target the U11 age group and U14 division. The three day camp commences on Thursday, October 3 and finishes on Sunday, October 5 at the Stanger Manor Primary School. The U11 camp will take place on Thursday (3pm-4.15pm), Friday (1.30pm-3.15pm) and Saturday (8am-10.15am). Dates and times for the U14 learners are as follows: Thursday (4.20pm-5.40pm), Friday (3.30pm-5.15pm) and Saturday (10.30am-12.30pm). Pillay said: "Parents should take advantage of sending their children to a camp right at the doorstep. Mhlongo, who is fast left arm bowler is currently playing for the KZN Dolphins outfit and is expected to bring a wealth of experience which would be beneficial to those attending the camp." Pillay has been involved in coaching primary school cricket for more than a decade and has served as the manager-cum-coach of the iLembe and Uthungulu teams for a number of years. The 3-day camp will not only involve a match situation, but individual attention will be given in the three most important facets of the game, namely batting, bowling and fielding. Fitness would also be targeted at the 3-day event. Talented players will be invited to join the academy with coaching given to them every Tuesday and Friday afternoon in the hope of grooming them into stars of the future. For further details regarding the cricket camp contact Desigan Pillay on 073 854 5786.
