Three suspects are still at large after fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash from Mamma's Chicken on Friday, 29 January 2016 at around 1:25pm. According to the owner of Mamma's Chicken Stanger, Mahomed Rehaz, the store had just opened when three men entered and held up the staff. “Two of the men were armed, one with a gun and the other had a knife,” said Rehaz. He added that the men assaulted staff members, and fled with cash from the store. A case has been opened at the KwaDukuza SAPS.

Two Nyoni police officers aged 48 and 59 were fatally shot during an escape bid from police holding cells on Thursday, 28 January 2016. According to KZN SAPS Liaison Officer, Major Thulani Zwane, the two Warrant Officers were on duty visiting the police cells when one officer was overpowered by the suspects who took their guns and fired shots at both officers. “One member retaliated, fatally wounding one suspect and the second suspect

managed to escape,” said Zwane. He added that the deceased suspect (23) was in custody for a number of robberies in the area and surroundings. The second suspect was shot and killed by police on Monday, 1 February 2016. “It is alleged that the members followed up information about his whereabouts at the Mandeni area. He allegedly fired at the police and the police returned fire. A firearm was found on the suspect and he was identified as Senzo Dube

(18),” said Zwane. The Kwazulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni strongly condemned the killing of police officers in the province. “I want to send condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of officers who were shot and killed while executing their duties. I am certain that we will find the suspect who managed to flee so that he can face the consequences for his actions,” she said.

School closed indefinitely STALEMATE: Glenhills Secondary learners outside the school gates protesting against alleged segregation by school management

Card Skimming or card cloning uses a Card Skimming device to fraudulently copy bank customer details stored on the magnetic strip (brown/black strip at the back) on a debit or credit card. The customer and card information stolen with skimming devices is often used to manufacture counterfeit (duplicate) cards which criminals use to make fraudulent transactions on a victim's account. Card skimming around ATMS Card fraud perpetrators use various scams and social engineering tactics to trick naïve ATM users and skim their bank cards. These are some of the most widespread scams: Skimming of card and shoulder surfing customer pins: • The perpetrators approach unsuspecting ATM users prior to or after concluding a transaction and claim to work for the bank. (Never trust anyone who approaches in the queue claiming to be a bank employee rather go into the bank for help) • The target is advised to 'reactivate' their cards by swiping the card through a 'card

A suspect who broke into a home in Warrenton and attempted to steal various items was caught in the act by a security company last week. According to the owner of the house, the suspect broke

in through the veranda ceiling and entered through a trap door. “He got inside and pulled out the whole alarm system. The security company alerted my husband, and they arrived and started looking for him in the house,” she

said. She added that the suspect was caught in the en-suite, and had packed various electrical appliances and clothes. He was arrested and handed over to the KwaDukuza SAPS.

reactivating device'. • The 'card reactivating device' is actually a hand held skimming device. This type of skimming requires accomplices to loiter around the ATM shoulder surfing for the customer PINs. • The perpetrators use the stolen card information to manufacture a counterfeit card and match the customer PIN to the new card to make fraudulent transactions. Tips to avoid becoming a victim of card skimming theft (ATM SAFETY TIPS): • Never give your card to someone at an ATM for any reason; • Never let anyone assist you at an ATM, even if they appear to be a bank official or security personnel; • Beware of people standing close to you when you are concluding transactions at an ATM; • Ensure you hide your pin when keying it into an ATM. • Never use an ATM that looks tampered with or damaged. • Always use an ATM in a well-lit area. • If possible, use an ATM that is monitored by a CCTV camera.

What this means is that KDM, for the past five years have a received a satisfactory audit and is striving for the gold standard which is a clean audit. The AG cited “two grants

The Honourable Mandeni Mayor, Councillor SB Zulu said that the Mandeni bursary fund has already benefited over 200 learners in the municipality. “The fund is a vehicle that helps us to realize the Municipal vision of being a reliable, people-centred and sustainable economic hub by 2030. Welfare launches new concept

L-CUBED: The Child Welfare SA (CWSA): KwaDukuza received a national stamp of approval from its Head office with regards to a fundraising initiative set to create awareness, excitement and fanfare. (Live. Love. Learn.) was presented to CWSA subsidiaries from Port Shepstone, KwaMashu, Tongaat, Phoenix and Durban at Child Welfare SA (CWSA): KwaDukuza Headquarters on Wednesday. Pot luck A police officer unwittingly solved a case of robbery. The officer alleges that he had taken out a prisoner to clarify his address for bail consideration. Whilst busy he was approached by Mubeen Rayman who identified the culprit as the person who had savagely attacked him with a wooden baton and stabbed him several times before fleeing with his cellphone. Junior Dunn (20) is now charged for two cases of robbery and given his history at the local

courts, he is not likely to be granted bail soon.

Do it right Menzi Zuma of Ntshawini almost lost R5000 had he not done the right thing. He alleges he was offered a Toyota Tazz by another local. Before making payment he took the licence disc which he handed over to traffic officers to check. The details came up as stolen in N t u z u m a . Z u m a accompanied the traffic officers to Ntshawini where

he pointed out the “owner” of the vehicle. Xolani Mhlongo (23) was arrested and charged for being in possession of a stolen vehicle. He has been remanded in custody pending a bail consideration by police.

Another one down Despite the risk of arrest, drug dealers in the CBD are plying their trade freely, openly, defiantly and arrogantly. Why? Many

SHOES FOR ALL: CBD based Dawnview Primary School received a donation of close to 780 pairs of Toughees Girls and Boys school shoes courtesy of Radio Lotus' Warm Hearts Program. Each learner received a pair of brand new school shoes. theories have been forthcoming, many without substance. Last week, a local police officer with a vendetta against drugs received a tipoff. On his arrival at the Hullett Street spot, which is like a flea market for drug activity, he spotted the man. On seeing the police he tried to flee but was caught. A search produced 86 straws of whoonga valued at R1720. Nkululeko Hlongwane (22) was remanded in custody and will apply for bail this week.

No moral compass When places of worship

become targets for criminals, hope is lost. Govindraj Maistry of Stanger Siva Temple had prepared the temple for devotees at 6:30am last Sunday. At 7am he returned to the temple and found two brass statues valued at R16 000 missing. Later that day police were called to a scrap metal dealer on the Doesberg Road who apprehended a youth who sold the items to them. He was paid a meager R280 for both statues. Akhona Silangwe (26) of Monkeytown has been locked up at the local police cells. He will seek bail in this matter this week.

Going bananas Nundlall Maharaj returned to his premises on Thursday to discover his vegetables and bananas missing. He questioned his employee who denied any involvement. On viewing his video footage Maharaj was surprised to see his trusted employee removing the items. Police were contacted and Sifiso Ndlovu (23) was arrested. Ndlovu in his defense claims he wanted to sell the items to impress his employer and give him the money. His slip up has cost him his job and he is due back at court on 27 January.

Morningside thrilling encounter In a iLembe District Cricket Union T20 clash, Morningside Cricket Club B side took on Manor B match played at Gledhow cricket grounds this past Saturday. Manor won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening pair, Prathir and Irshaad batted well together until Irshaad was eventually trapped LBW in the 9th over by Owami Zondo with his score on 13 and the teams score on 37. Prathir was them joined at the crease by Bilal, who tried to add some impetus to the match and batted well for his 10 runs until he was clean bowled by Don Naidoo. Four balls later Don picked up his second in the over when he trapped Manor Captain Akshay, LBW, for a duck. Left arm quick Treval Thirumugum was brought back into the attack and he added to Manors poultry farm, sending Shaun back for a duck when he was given out LBW. Suveer Dewlall picked up the next 3 wickets, his first victim was Shiv whose early drive was well caught by Owami at mid-on. Then he took care of opener Prathir, trapping him plumb in front. Prathir batted well holding the

innings together as wickets fell around him. He made 37. Suveer's last wicket was Eli who was clean bowled for yet another duck. Manor made 101 for 7 in their 20 overs. The pick of the Morningside bowlers was Suveer Dewlall (4 overs 3 wickets for 13 runs), Treval Thirumugum (4 overs 1 wicket for 22 runs), Don Naidoo (4 overs 2 wicket for 15 runs) Owami Zondo (1 wicket for 11 runs of his 1 over), Niren Lochan (3 overs for 15 runs) and Caleb Ramkisson (4 overs for 14 runs). Needing 102 for victory Morningside youngsters Treval Thirumugum and Dylan Subrayen got the team off to a great start adding 47 runs for the opening stand. Treval made 10 runs. Suveer stay at the wicket was short lived as he was run out for 1 run. Dylan was the next wicket to fall as he was caught of the

bowling of Prathir for a wellplayed 20. Senior players Don Naidoo and Roland Butalion found themselves at the wicket needing to steady the ship the pair batted for 13 and 8 respectively, until Don was trapped LBW by Manor captain Akshay in a tit for tat battle and Roland was clean bowled by Eli. Leeson then fell for a first baller to give Eli his second and Jared was run out for 2. Niren Lochan and Kevlin Marie quashed Manors hopes of a dramatic comeback when the two batted their side to victory with and unbeaten partnership of 15 runs. Manor paid the price for a poor bowling effort in which they conceded 33 extras. Pick of the manor bowlers was Akshay (4 overs 2 wickets for 13 runs) and (Eli 4 overs 3 wickets for 27 runs). Morningside b won by 4 wickets and 3 overs to spare.

Boston recognised by CompTia (USA) as the top training and certification partner So, you want to study, and love computers? Well, most people love computers it has become our way of communicating, shopping, studying, entertaining ourselves and others. Computers are not just found on our desks our tablets and phones perform the same functions. Yes, we know you can't get through one hour without checking out that lit screen! But is this how you want to earn your living? Boston City Campus & Business College has always been staying in touch with industry and creating graduates that are work-ready - persons who can contribute meaningfully to the company they work for. Two IT Diplomas are on offer both accredited by the CHE (Council on Higher Education). These diplomas will ensure that you can indulge your passion and find your dream job in a well-paying industry. A Systems Developer earns an average salary of R265 131 per year in South Africa. (A skill in JavaScript is associated with the high pay for this job.) Mark Cohen is the CTO of Domain Group, an international IT Professional, and former lecturer at Boston. He explains what systems developers do in the company: “systems developers create, maintain, audit and improve systems to meet the needs of the company. They test both hardware and software systems and diagnose and resolve system faults. It is a pressurised job that often strays beyond the average 9am 5pm day. Developers will also create diagnostic programs, and design and write code for business systems. My team works incredibly hard!” Depending on the type of organisation, developers can become either systems or applications specialists. Says Cohen, “You know those 'apps” you are always downloading? Wouldn't it be great to make your own? There is no challenge that my team can't face. Almost any problem or need can be solved by creating an app”. Systems developers' jobs are generally of a highly complex and technical nature, and it requires talent for computer science and mathematics. Cohen continues, warning that IT is not a study-once career: “all IT positions are constantly evolving, due to technological advances. If you select IT as your career you must be prepared for lifelong learning.” Job titles in IT are not standardised, so when you are doing your research on which jobs are available, you need to search for various opportunities including systems/software/ database/web programmers, engineers

or developers. You also need to look in various industries media is an example of an industry with a large demand for persons with IT skills. Says Cohen, “while programming itself does not require people skills, your role may require you to communicate with teams and managers, as well as clients. So you will need some people skills”. Given this overview of systems development what can you get from the Diploma in Network Systems offered by Boston? Cohen explains that “Network computer systems administrators take care of, install, and organize the network's local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and intranets, as well as support an organization's computer systems and other data communication systems. It is a far more hands-on job, so to speak. You need to be active, you need to have energy, and you need to be a great problem solver. As with all IT positions, it is vital to remain current because IT changes rapidly.” Boston has been recognised by CompTia (USA) as the top training and certification partner, being: the largest certification partner in Africa; the 3rd largest global certification partner; and CAPP partner of the year (all 2015). Therefore, with Boston, there are always courses available to update or upgrade your skills. A network systems administrator oversees an organization's mobile, server and desktop equipment. They discuss the organisation's needs in computer and network systems and then install it: both hardware and software. They also manage the security of the systems, protect against viruses and secure the data storage. They ensure employees remain connected to the organisation's central c o m p u t e r n e t w o r k . Telecommunications networks, such as Telkom or Cell C, are sometimes managed by Network System administrators. In order to work in networking or in programming and development, you will need knowledge of mathematics, computers and electronics, administration and management as well as theEnglish language. You will also need essential skills such as critical thinking, reading and comprehension, complex problem solving and systems evaluation. And to acquire all the above mentioned knowledge and skills, an accredited IT diploma from Boston will set you on the path to becoming the boss. Contact Boston City Campus & Business College Stanger on 032 551 5566, e-mail info@boston.co.za, visit www.boston.co.za, or Facebook.

Alternatively, a copy of the Report may be viewed on the Municipality's website: www.ilembe.gov.za. YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED HOME AND A YEAR HAS PASSED

Dear Dad,

Each morning when we awake we know that you are gone. And no one knows the heartache As we try to carry on.

There will always be a heartache, and often a silent tear, But always a precious memory Of the days when you were here.

Our hearts still ache with sadness and many tears still flow. What it meant to lose you, No one will ever know.

If tears could make a staircase, And heartaches make a lane, We'd walk the path to heaven And bring you home again.

Our thoughts are always with you, your place no one can fill. In life we loved you dearly, In death we love you still.

We hold you close within our hearts, And there you will remain, To walk with us throughout our lives Until we meet again.

In memory of our late Dad

Our family chain is broken now, And nothing will be the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.

Who was called to rest on 06/02/2015. Born on 05/03/1969 Sadly missed by his wife Dolly, Son Ryan, daughters Rocksan and Rehana, son-in-law Suraj and Justin, grandsons Kyle and Carter and only grand daughter Cheyanne and mother in-law

Nostalgia returns to take the people of KwaDukuza down memory lane since the advent of the photograph itself - depending on quality and availability…

Life and Times of KwaDukuza-Stanger

STANGER'S FINEST: Standing (L-R): Gulam Suleman, Danny Naidoo, Ryan Naidoo, Daya Naidoo, M Naidoo, Sunny N and Roy Naidoo; Middle row (L-R): Ajith Singh, Anand Naidoo, Gopal Govender, Mahalingum Govender, Pat Naidoo, Papoo Akbar and Mohammed Sayed Motala; Seated (L-R): Harold Samuel, Dr S Asmal (Chairman), Juggoo Govender (Captain), Bernard Balkissoon (Vice-Captain), Manie Pillay (Manager) and Dawood Asmal

The cricketing talent within KwaDukuza in the 60's was described with many superlatives, attributed to individuals who made their mark with bat and ball as well as on the field. Royals were Super League champions of the Natal Cricket Board in seasons 1967 - 68

and 1969 - 70. The team was captained by one of Stanger's greatest cricketers, the Late Juggoo Govender. It comprised six players who represented the Natal Cricket Board during different periods in their careers, viz. Juggoo Govender, Dawood Asmal, Papoo

Akbar, Harold Samuel, Guloo Hoosen and Mahalingum "Child" Govender. Dawood Asmal also represented the non-racial South African Cricket Board of Control on the tour of East Africa in 1956 57. That team was captained by Basil D'Oliviera.

Grove End have been drawn against First Division League outfit, Darnall United in the opening round before locking horns with the winner of the Warriors Sport and Frendz clash in the semi's.
