Mayor Gumede tables ILembe budget By Thokozani Mnguni
ILembe District Municipality Mayor Cllr Siduduzo Gumede on 29 May 2019 tabled the municipality's IDP and Budget for 2019/20, outlining the state of Municipality's finances, and where ILembe Municipality will spend its money in the year ahead. In his remarks Gumede made it clear that service delivery remains the main priority for the Municipality, further guaranteeing that they have an action plan in place to improve revenue collection and diversification of income by trying to identify additional source of revenue to place less reliance on grants. “The ILembe District Municipality council takes public participation seriously and committed in delivering on our promises. Allow me to, therefore, reflect on what we had set out as our priorities firstly the
acceleration of water and sanitation provision in rural communities such as Ndwedwe & Maphumulo, upgrading and replacement of ageing infrastructure within the resources available,” said Gumede. According to a trend analysis of liquidity over the past 6 months, the financial analysis performed reveal that on average the municipality maintained 44 days 'cash on hand against an average of 28 days reported in the corresponding period last financial year. In efforts to reach the municipality's target of 90 days cash on hand, the Mayor said they will embark on several Save Water Campaigns which is part of the revenue enhancement programme. “We are aiming to reach at least 45 days' cash on hand when we conclude the current financial year. This healthier liquidity position has ensured that amongst other MAYOR: iLembe Mayor Cllr Siduduzo Gumede delivering the 2019/2020 Budget of the iLembe District Municipality

Gueldies Reunion
Xpress Anniversary Competition winners
TEAM: Gueldies Reunion working team CONGRATULATIONS: Winners of the Xpress Times 10th Anniversary Competition
World Blood Donor Month June is World Blood Donor Month. June 14 marks World Blood Donor day, in a global celebration of the millions of people throughout the world who give their blood on a voluntary, unpaid basis to save the lives of those in need. The month aims to raise awareness of the need for safe blood, to thank and honour those blood donors who make transfusion possible and to encourage regular blood donation by suitable donors. Transfusion of blood and blood products helps save
millions of lives every year. It can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with a higher quality of life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. Donating a unit of blood
can save up to three lives patients in dire need of blood. By becoming a regular blood donor, this ensures that the safety of blood is maintained and makes it possible for the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) to collect sufficient safe blood to meet the demand.
All past and present residents of New Guelderland Sugar Estate and Symbezi, kindly note the final date set for the reunion is 10 August 2019 at the community hall from 10am onwards. Kindly forward family and memorable photos to Dennis Annappen on 083 753 6677 if you desire to become part of our souvenir brochure. The deadline for photos is 15 July 2019. A public gathering will
take place on 15 June 2019 at 2pm to make you aware of the reunion. You are all requested to attend this very important meeting at the hall.

Sciatica and Reflexology Treatment The sciatic nerve happens to be the longest nerve in our body. It starts from our spinal cord in the lower back and passes down through the hip into the back area of the lower leg. When we say 'sciatica' we refer to the pain in this sciatic nerve. As this nerve passes down through the pelvis, hip and to the lower leg, the pain whenever it occurs, is felt in the areas through which it passes. This nerve controls many muscles of the lower leg and also controls the sensation of thigh, leg and feet. Pain that travels from the lower back or from the hip through the
back part of the thigh to the lower part of the leg or to the foot is usually very indicative of sciatica. Sciatica can range from a simple dull ache to severe electric like shocks. Patients with sciatica may suffer from additional symptoms such as numbness and weakness along the course of nerve, tingling and pins and needles feeling (mostly in the feet). Sciatica is not a disease in itself but a symptom of the sciatic nerve being irritated or compressed ('pinched' as one may call it in layman's language) along its course. Other medical conditions including trauma to the spine,
spinal tumors, and spondylolisthesis (slipping of ones vertebra canal) stenosis can cause sciatica. Reflexology as a natural system of treatment offers distinct advantages to the people who suffer from sciatica. The biggest advantage that reflexology offers is that it is able to treat the pain very effectively and is able to rectify the compression or irritation on the sciatic nerve. Another great benefit of using reflexology also aims at strengthening the patient's constitution in order to prevent further recurrence.

Over R400 000 raised for kind petrol attendant The crowdfunding campaign for petrol attendant Nkosikho Mbele, whose act of kindness warmed hearts across South Africa and the world, has raised more than R300 000 within two days. Mbele, 28, from Makhaza in Khayelitsha, had paid R100 out of his own pocket to fuel 21-year-old motorist Monet van Deventer's car after she had forgotten her bank card at home last week. Mbele had asked Van Deventer to return the money when she was back in the area. He did not take down her details. Mbele said he had been worried that Van Deventer would be stranded on the notorious stretch of the N2 highway if she ran out of petrol. Following Mbele's act of kindness, Van Deventer posted to social media and created a crowdfunding

the campaign received. On Monday afternoon, funds raised for Nkosikho Mbele were over the R440,000 mark
Several government heads met in Durban on Monday 03 June 2019 with stakeholders in the trucking industry to find an urgent solution, following the latest wave of violent attacks, in which more than 20 trucks were torched throughout the country over the weekend. It's alleged that these attacks erupted because of the hiring of foreign nations, while natives are left unemployed. Speaking at the meeting Minister of Police Bheki Cele said torching of trucks must stop, it's a crime and it cripples the economy. “91 people had been arrested during the three week period, but there was little done in way of
prosecution. Several have been released on bail of R500. We are working as a chain of the justice cluster. These crimes cannot just be traffic offences. It is economic sabotage and should be treated as such,” said Cele.
Representing truck owners, Advocate Pria Hassan said that over 60 trucks had been torched in three weeks. It is alleged that just a few hours after the meeting, another truck was torched on the N2 in Durban.

After one of the most thrilling and unpredictable Champions League seasons in memory, Saturday's final was meant to be the grand finale. The past few months saw the rise of an upstart Ajax side that demolished defending champion Real Madrid in its own house, an overachieving Spurs side that reached the final without captain Harry Kane and without a new signing all year, and two of the greatest Champions League comebacks ever. Liverpool and Tottenham had played some of the most exhilarating football in Europe this season, including a pair of three-goal comebacks that took them to the Champions League final. But whether it was the weight of the occasion, the suffocating Madrid heat, or the disruptive three-week break, the final didn't live up to its billing. By all accounts, Tottenham was the

better side -- or at least the side in control -- for much of the game. With 62% possession and eight shots on target to Liverpool's three, Tottenham won the statistical battle, except where it really mattered. Liverpool's ecstatic manager Jurgen Klopp, fresh from breaking his sixgame losing streak in major finals, had no problem with that. "I played a lot more finals than I won," he said after the game. "And I always played the better football. I don't want to explain why we won it, I just want to enjoy winning it. 12B Chief Albert Luthli Street •Tel: 032 551 4215/18 "On the other side, I know how Engine Service Suspension Repairs CV Joints Tottenham feel in From From From this moment better than anybody else in Fitted Incl. the world. (Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino) they should be really proud of what they achieved this season." Questions have lingered over Pochettino's future at Tottenham for the better part of two years. After the final, the Argentine offered no assurances he would remain at the club next season, but praised the vision of Spurs' ownership and management. Tottenham's season featured the unveiling of a gleaming new stadium in March, but the project truly came to fruition on Saturday night, Pochettino said. He proudly and rightly pointed out he had "spent zero" on this side over the past year and not only competed against teams that spent hundreds of millions, but also got the better of them. "You can interpret things in different ways," Pochettino told the assembled media. "People want to compare me with other managers, but we are different managers, in different places with

different pressures. "After five years at Tottenham, the project was clear. Our ambition has been amazing and the commitment from our players was amazing. "Now it's about staying calm and changing the mood and our minds." The 47-year-old made it clear,
however, that not winning a trophy this season will sting, despite all the progress his club has made. "The final is about winning," he said. "It's not about deserving it or playing well. It's about winning. Nobody will remember that we deserved it more.”
