Stanger Khidmat Organisation
Electrification Project launched in Mandeni
SKO launch a success
LAUNCH: From: (L-R): Mandeni Mayor, Cllr Sphesihle Zulu and Project Engineer, Mr Percy Mthembu of PSMT Consulting Engineers
By Xpress Reporter
Mandeni Municipality launched the Nyathini Electrification Project at the Macambini Multi-Purpose hall on Thursday, 28 July 2016. Mandeni Mayor, Councillor Sphesihle Zulu introduced the project team
that will be responsible the electrification of 348 households. The project will cover three areas in three wards: Nqofela area in ward 9, Nyathini area in ward 8, and Bambinkunzi area in ward 8. “This project comes after we have realized that both Macambini and Ndulinde
areas run short of electricity as a basic need.” The Mayor further introduced PSMT Enginnering as the company that will be inspecting the project and Mr Phillip Ngcobo who will be profiling households for the project. It was also agreed that
profiling is expected to be complete by January 2017, and the project duration is 5 months. To conclude, the Mayor warned all those who have connected electricity illegally (Izinyoka) to disconnect as this might cause great harm to their households and property.
The Stanger Khidmat Organisation (SKO) is a newly formed organisation whose mission is to serve humanity. The intent of the launch was to build the bonds of friendship and goodness through collaboration and mutual respect with other organisations in and around the KwaDukuza and Ilembe region. “Alone we are one, together we are an ocean.” Thanks to the following organisations for availing themselves for our launch: Elleah Rose Foundation, Stanger Muslim Association, Dolphin Coast Hospice, KwaDukuza Women's Circle, Glenhills Women Circle, Stanger Youth Forum, Sadics and Concerned citizens group. Our launch would not have been possible had it not been for the
kindness and generosity of many individuals. Thank you to all the members and volunteers of SKO as well as the Xpress Times.
SKO Mission: • Serving the needs of those less fortunate without compromise; • Helping our less fortunate brothers and sisters with life's basics; • Lending a helping hand beyond boundaries; • Committed to assisting fellow citizens with basic needs. Anyone wishing to know more about SKO can contact them at any time: Fameeda Hoosen (Chairperson): 079 885 0880 / Ismail Gori (Vice Chairperson) - Marketing, Press and Media: 0724435910

Mayor welcomes initiative
YOUTH CENTRED: From: (L-R): KDM Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu; KZN MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Sihle Zikalala; Sibaya Community Trust trustee, Mr Vivian Reddy; Former Member of Parliament, Dr Albertina Luthuli and Sorisha Reddy (wife of Vivian Reddy)
Continued from page 5 where unemployment is extremely high. This is clearly a landmark project and hopefully other regions can follow suit,” she said. The project aims to train between 500 and 800 people per year and will provide technical training for unemployed youth with courses manifesting artisan skills. The ultimate goal is to equip learners with skills and create job readiness, so that they can be employed or become entrepreneurs. Reddy said the centre would train unemployed youths in technical skills for the building industry. “We will provide training from Grade 10 onwards across a range of courses including welding, bricklaying, electrical work and plumbing. “Ultimately we hope to equip students with soft skills and create job readiness, enabling them to succeed, once employed. Apart from catering for skills acquisition, we also hope to unlock job linkages for our students,” he said. Reddy also said that the 700 square metre project included three lecture rooms, a large workshop, an administration block, reception and ablution facilities. He said there were several joint initiatives driving the project. This included

partnerships with local government, tertiary institutions, educational bodies as well as national and provincial corporates. The building is designed to create lecture space for 3000 people. The KZN MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Sihle Zikalala said the project had several significant community benefits. “Many training programmes are found in cities and generally far away from communities. “The Chief Albert Luthuli Centre breaks this mould and students can literally walk to the centre. In terms of spatial planning this project therefore is ideal and well planned. “It is certainly in line with national government philosophy and plans.” KDM Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu said the initiative was welcome in the region. “The unemployment level in our town is very high, owing to the slow rate of development. Therefore this project comes as a godsend. It is critical that the poor get opportunities to acquire skills and this project provides just this. “We are even happier that it seeks to provide job linkages something that most of our youths are unable to do. As local government we will do our utmost to assist,” he said.

Umvoti running at full capacity
A 30% curtailment and time of use plan still stands for areas located in the South of KwaDukuza Local Municipality, from Zimbali to eTete as well Ndwedwe Local Municipality. On Monday morning this week, the Hazelmere Dam stood at 52.9%, which was slightly higher than last Wednesday's 45, 73%. “We measured rainfall of
4mm at Hazelmere for the past five days. Ndwedwe and Groutville systems are still receiving water between 04h00 and 10h00 as well as 16h00 and 22h00,” said His Worship, the Mayor of iLembe District Municipality, Cllr SW Mdabe. Production at the Umvoti Waterworks is stable, with the system producing 18
megalitres for the past five days compared to last week's 15 megalitres. “Two weeks ago, we were sitting at eight megalitres per day. This week, all our reservoirs are at levels ranging from 60% to a 100%,” said Mayor Mdabe. Last week, Gledhow North and Gledhow South were at 10% and 50% respectively and were supplied with water
tankers along with Lindelani Township which was at also at 10%. “We still have 15 tankers owned by Ilembe, three tankers from the Department of Water and Sanitation and 17 hired tankers which will help with supplying water where the boreholes have been affected by drought.” Speaking to iLembe,

South African Weather Service's Senior Meteorologist, Mduduzi Mthembu, said good rain can be expected on Wednesday, 3 August 2016. “Beside today's rainfall, we are expecting 60% rainfall on Wednesday evening for Ballito, Mandeni, KwaDukuza and Maphumulo areas,” said Mthembu.
Residents and ratepayers across iLembe are still urged to use water sparingly and to continue saving as much water as possible. To report leaks and burst pipes or any water and sanitation related issues, please contact our 24hr call centre: 032-437 9379 and like the 'Ilembe District Municipality' Facebook page for updates.

CALLING FOR PEACE: KDM Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu and Reverend Dube speaking at the KwaDukuza Prayer for peaceful elections
KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu has called for full co-operation and social coexistence amongst political parties contesting the Local Government Elections. “We have noted with great dismay, the recent attacks against political representatives in various parts of our province. KwaDukuza has reason to be worried by images of violent attacks and death as they remind the people of KwaDukuza of the
brutal shooting and killing of an innocent political activist who was shot and killed at a Voting station in Lindelani during the 2014 General Elections. “It is time to affirm our stance against such killings and we are calling all political parties to unite in one resolve against violent intimidations and political killings as all parties are generally to the same end,” he said. Mthembu was addressing people at a prayer for peaceful
elections that was organised by KwaDukuza Municipality together with the KwaDukuza Evangelistic Ministers Forum (KEMF) in support of unity, political tolerance and social coexistence. He urged political parties contesting the elections to play by the rules stipulated in the Code of Conduct and exercise political tolerance and coexistence before and beyond the elections.

Magubane also called for a peaceful election on Wednesday, and urged the community to refrain from

Whose bag is it anyway? Battle lines are drawn between two local people. Keith Ramesar of Beatrice Street alleges he was visited by a local who conducts business with him. The local allegedly fled with plastic bags valued at R2600 from his yard. A few days later police arrested Niven Naidoo (37). He alleges that he supplied the bags to Ramesar who did not pay him for it. As a result he took back his bags. Naidoo is due back at court on 19 August.

ROAD ACCIDENT FUND / MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE CLAIMS
Ntshawini alleges she returned home on Saturday evening and noticed that her house was broken into. Her fridge, groceries, electrical appliances and a blanket were missing. She made enquiries and was informed that her neighbour was the culprit. Police arrived and on entering the neighbour's house, found all the stolen property. Vusumuzi Buthelezi (42) cooperated fully with investigators and claims to have committed the crime as he has no money to support his family. He is due back at court this week for a bail consideration. Alpha is tops Alpha Security proved their mettle once again. Last Friday, they received a report of a group of suspicious behaving youths in the Nonoti area. Upon their arrival the four had left but the officer followed them. mm pistol and four rounds of ammunition which was unlicensed. The other three also drew weapons and managed to elude the Alpha officer who contacted police and handed over Bongumusa Ndlovu (29), an unemployed youth from Empangeni. He remains in custody pending a bail investigation. Alcoholic Tales An incident on Youth Day has reached court at last. According to Nhlanhla Jali, he and a group of his friends were drinking at Blythedale Beach. A short while later another group arrived and they too began consuming alcohol. An argument broke out between Jali's brother and one of the other group members. Jali got into a fight with the attacker and knocked him out in a fist fight. He was then attacked by the group and stabbed in the back. His brother was
stabbed in the head. Last week, Ntando Ndamazela (21) handed himself over to police. He is a grade 10 pupil at Odumo High School in Mandeni. He was remanded in custody pending a bail consideration. It is interesting to note that both parties are from Mandeni and admit that all were drunk at that stage.
Never lose hope Philani Gumede of Lindelani alleges he and his friend were on foot home from work on Friday at about 7pm. They were approached by two youths who threatened them with knives. His friend fled and the two took his cash and a Blackberry smartphone. Gumede rushed home and rounded up several of his friends. They followed the road taken by the culprits and upon reaching Dawnside, found the two culprits who had robbed him. With the support of his friends they overpowered the two youths and contacted the police. Knives were found on the alleged culprits, however, the stolen property was not found. Manke Nxumalo (18) and Nkosikhona Mnomiya (21) will be back at court this week to seek bail.

The Ant and the Grasshopper
NEW PREMISES : MAKOYA CENTRE BEHIND SUNDUMBILI CLINIC - MANDENI
It was summer, hot and sunny, and instead of working and preparing for winter, a Grasshopper preferred to dance, sing and play his violin at his leisure, not minding that these wonderful days will soon be over - that cold and rainy days will soon be near. On seeing a hardworking Ant passing by him, preparing for the hard winter that was to come one day, he invited him to join him and share his fun. “Unfortunately, I don't have time for this”, the Ant answered, “I must work hard, so that winter won't find me without shelter and food.” “Stop worrying so much, there is still plenty of time to prepare for winter. Let's sing and dance together, let's laugh and enjoy life”. But Ant was very wise and wouldn't pay attention to the Grasshopper's words and continued to work hard and store food for the long winter that was to come. The winter came

sooner than expected, and the Grasshopper found himself without a home and without food. He went to the Ant's house and begged him for food and shelter. “I'm sorry, but I can't help you”, the Ant said. “I only have room and food for me and
my family, so go find help somewhere else.” “I should have followed Ant's example in the summer”, the Grasshopper thought sadly. “I would have been so happy now…” Moral: It is best to prepare for the days of necessity

Streets renamed after struggle icons By Xpress Reporter
KwaDukuza Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu has officiated Goolam Suleman and EV Mahomed Streets in honour of the two individuals who contributed immensely to the advancement of the liberation movement together with the late President General of the African National Congress (ANC), Chief Albert Luthuli. The three KwaDukuza icons played instrumental roles in the struggle against the oppressive government during the dark day's apartheid. Suleman and Mahomed worked very closely with the late Chief Albert Luthuli whose political career was marked by a programme of civil disobedience for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Given the high profile nature of the two individuals after whom the two streets are renamed, the launch of the two names befits and honours their legacy and memory. Cato Street in KwaDukuza has been renamed after EV Mahomed and Hullett Street after Goolam Suleman. Suleman and Mahomed provided support that Luthuli needed as he traversed the difficult terrain as a banned individual who carried on his shoulders the unenviable task of leading the African National Congress (ANC). From behind the scenes, they became the architects and midwives of the democratic South Africa that was delivered in 1994. The two gentlemen worked very closely with Chief Albert Luthuli who was a banned individual at the time, practically cut off from the world. They supported him in his

availed facilities for underground ANC
meetings. Chief Luthuli was
President of the ANC when the Freedom Charter was adopted, but was under banning orders by the apartheid regime. Meetings had to be held to discuss the Charter with Chief Luthuli before it was adopted in Kliptown. During the 1956 Treason Trial Chief Luthuli was among 156 detainees, Suleman organised the Variety Concert held in the then Stanger to raise funds for detainees. EV Mahomed availed his office for Chief Luthuli to hold meetings as his house (Luthuli) was under constant surveillance. He was part of the organisers of the 1959 protest against Chief Luthuli's banning orders. He faced constant police raids and was banned too and as a result he never received an SA passport. Consequently, he could not go to the Hajj nor was he allowed to meet with more than two people he was never recognized as SA citizen although he came from India at the age of three. One of the responsibilities of the democratic government is to recognise the role played by those who contributed in various ways to the liberation of the people of South Africa so that their contribution is not erased from the memory of the nation. Goolam Suleman and EV Mahomed provided the stamina that Chief Albert Luthuli needed as he traversed the difficult terrain as a banned individual who carried on his shoulders the unenviable task of leading the ANC. From behind the scenes, they became the architects and midwives of the democratic South Africa that was delivered in 1994.
Ebrahim Vally Mahomed
Goolam Suleman
Ebrahim Vally Mahomed also known as EV Mahomed arrived in South Africa in 1920 when he was just three-and-a-half-years-old. He attended Sastri College and further studied-book keeping. He moved to Kwa Dukuza in 1940 where through his work he met Chief Luthuli. He became the confidant, advisor, friend, supporter and secretary to the late Chief Albert Luthuli, president of the ANC.
Goolam Suleman came from a family of Indian storekeepers, whose origins date back to the village of Jallapur, India and the arrival of the first Indian indentured labourers who came to Natal in search of work in the 1860's. Goolam forged a strong relationship with Chief Albert Luthuli that spanned over two decades. Goolam and his family opened up the doors of their home and shop, Liberty Stores, to Luthuli, which became the venue of many secret political meetings. from the book: In the Shadow of Chief Albert Luthuli, Reflections of Goolam Suleman, Logan Naidoo, Luthuli Museum Publication

MAMA ALISHA
2016 THE BEST YEAR OF MY LIFE- ALL THANKS TO MAMA ALISHA I am Mr Vijay Tinnet from Stanger Manor. I was a security guard for 15 years but had nothing to show as my salary too was small. I had fear to marry becuase I had fear that I couldn’t support a big family. One day I was chatting with Jan Corbus my previous work mate who had become rich so fast and he told me to go to Mama Alisha because she had helped him to get rich. He called her and told her he was sending me to her. The next day I went, she started with a prayer, then she told me to use a magic wallet. I took the magic wallet home, after only 3 days she had told me I woke up checked the wallet and here was a lot of money. I went back to her she said it will bring more. I bought myself a brand new range rover & A home in Umhlanga and also got married. I opened my own business thanks too Mama Alisha
MY WIFE TOLD ME TO GO TO HELL WHEN I WAS POOR BUT SHE WANTS ME BACK BECAUSE IM RICH I am Cliff from Umhlanga. I came to know about Mama Alisha from Auntie Merina who lives in Stanger and had previously visited her with a financial problem and it had been fixed. I had lost all my money, cars, business some of which was left to me by my late parents. When things went real bad. My wife told me to go to hell and started having affairs looking out for rich men and when I confronted her about it she told me go to hell, left me alone and went. I suffered for almost 2 years but meeting Mama Alisha rose me up again. She gave me a magic wallet with which I could get money daily inside my house. I opened up a new business worth 2 million rands bought 2 new cars and when my wife heard that I am up again she wants me back, thinking of forgiving her but am not sure. Only that she is the mother of my 3 kids. I can forgive her for only that. If Alisha bought my life back to normal, I know she can help you too.

An additional 113 athletes were named to an initial 24 names that were given out in May to bring the total number of participants for the 2016 Games to 137. That is 12 more than the 125 athletes who represented South Africa at the 2012 Olympics in London. In addition to track and field athletes and swimmers‚ SA will be represented in other codes like Sevens rugby‚ men and women's soccer‚ golf‚ badminton‚ judo‚ triathlon‚ rowing and equestrian. “There is great excitement around what we are doing now‚” Sascoc president Gideon Sam said at the announcement of Team SA. “It has been a long journey. We made it a point many years ago that this country can be a force to be reckoned with on the world stages of sport. We had to do something about it‚ and that was to say to ourselves 'let us have a criteria that will enable us to do that'. It has not been easy and it is still not easy.” Sascoc chief executive Tubby Reddy was also named as the country's Chef de Mission and he will head the team to Rio. Reddy emphasised the team's readiness for the Games as he indicated that preparations for Brazil had started immediately after the last Olympics four years ago in the United Kingdom. “Preparations for the athletes started immediately after London 2012. We launched the Operation Excellence program to help prepare athletes to get to this stage‚” said Reddy. “The athletes that have been announced today have met the [set] criteria. If there is a need for change‚ we can debate that going forward and make whatever necessary changes that need to be made. “The athletes we have selected are quality athletes‚ who will give off their best in return.” Sam expressed his confidence that the team would represent South Africa well and called on South Africans to throw their weight behind the athletes.

Grove End continue unbeaten run Grove End's domination of the KwaDukuza Volleyball Association EZE's Electrical Premier League continued as they continued their unbeaten run over the last couple of years with and impressive victory over arch rivals KSST. Former champions, KSST have battled to regain their dominance after losing key players to rival clubs in the other districts and have now over the years played second fiddle in the league. The battle between these two teams continued at the association courts last Thursday. Although the game was a closely contested one, the superior fire-power that Grove End possess came to the fore. With youngsters Vinnie Singh and Cyprian Revy Harrypersad, executive member of KDVA hands over the winner's cheque to manager of Darnall United, Vinesh Geanballey. Looking on is KDVA President, Isaac Abraham

final Darrel Shanmagum beat Jerry Arunachellum 2-0 and advanced to the quarter final while Charlie Pillay beat Nine Pillay 2-0 to meet Shanmagum in the quarter final. Darrel was in top form and beat Pillay 2-1 to meet Somnath in the semi-final. The semifinal between Shanmagum and Somnath was a real humdinger as both players produced top scores and the game was levelled 1-1. However Shanmagum snatched the 3rd set and advanced into the finals to meet Padayachee. The finals was well contested as Shanmagum drew first blood winning the first set. Padayachee kept his tempo and levelled the scores in the second set. In the final set Padayachee proved to strong and left Shanmagum reeling with shock as he top scored with 180 (three triple 20) and closed the game to lift the singles title.

They took on a resurgent Manor Old Boys squad and emerge victorious. Preston marched on to win the first set 25-20. However, in the second set, the match was evenly poised with both teams throwing everything into the game. Preston held their nerves to win 27-25. Meanwhile the postponed Inkosi Chief Albert Luthuli final for Division I teams that was postponed a fortnight ago was completed last Wednesday. Darnall added yet another silverware in their cabinet claiming victory over Cool Leaders.
