SPECIAL 5 DAYS ONLY WEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY
By Xpress Reporter
The ANC Greater Kwa Dukuza Region held a Regional General Council at the KwaDukuza Town Hall on Saturday that was attended by delegates from far and wide. District chairman Ricardo Mthembu touched on the speech of President Zuma that he made during the National Council a couple of weeks ago. The Chairman paid tribute to the action of members of the youth wing, composed of IGR and their ability to deal with the crisis that raged recently when students were protesting about proposed increases in the financial affairs of institutions of higher learning. The meeting fielded members from the Tripartite Alliance that also included delegates from ANC branches, PEC/NEC members, RECs of the mother body itself, of the Women's League & the Youth League; delegates from the Veterans League, MKMVA and the PPF; delegations from our Revolutionary Alliance SACP, COSATU and SANCO as well as the PYA (YCLSA, SASCO and COSAS).

KwaDukuza under siege at 01h30 BOMB-ARDMENT: The group of approximately 20 to 30 heavily armed men involved in a botched robbery attempt, via dynamite use on Wednesday morning at 1:30 am in what captured the attention of the whole country
CSI KWADUKUZA: Approximately six hours after the explosion, the forensics experts dressing up to find traces of criminal evidence. It is alleged that close to a 100 bullet casings were found.
Continued from page 1 Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and so on. Maharaj said that the botched robbery was too precise and pointed to one criminal team stationed near Natures Best whereby a security vehicle was intercepted and hijacked of bulletproof vests, guns and in some cases uniforms. It is alleged that the criminals also posed as security officers at the points of interception.

CONGRATULATIONS: Winner of a R500 voucher, Trevolyn (above); and Moses (below) who won a R1000 voucher
Other points where teams were stationed at included the Post Office area, OK Mall, the Chief Albert Luthuli Statue, Stanger South Secondary School and the main team; that included four worked in the “hot zone” (ATM area) according to Maharaj. The main door that leads to the back of the ATMs, upon inspection, was bombarded. According to a source the grade of dynamite found at the scene was the one used in
mines. The door gave in as the lock was obliterated. “Another area of concern revolved around the CBD municipal cameras being out of order for approximately six months,” said Maharaj. He described the five vehicles involved as a white Audi, gold / brown Avanza, white BMW, a Toyota Corrolla and a Ford Bantam. Major Zwane confirmed that “no ATM was actually bombed.” “The suspects attempted to
break into one of the ATM's however they fled when police arrived. No ATM was robbed and no money was taken. We are however still concerned that such a large number of individuals were involved in the attempt to rob the ATM and that they attacked our police officers. No stoned will be left unturned as we track down these ruthless criminals,” he said. The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner,
Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members for their speedy response and strongly condemned the attack on police officers. “The Hawks will work tirelessly to catch these criminals so that they can face the full might of law. I appeal to members of the public who know these thugs to please contact us so that we can arrest them,” she said.

Ilembe… “Three months water supply” The Ilembe District Municipality and its constituent municipalities are in deeper trouble with regards to water supply and the Kwa Dukuza Municipality is no different. His Worship the Mayor of iLembe District Municipality, Councillor Welcome Mdabe will meet the Minister of Water and Sanitation Ms Nomvula Mokonyane and the KwaZulu-Natal cabinet on Wednesday, 4 November to present the district's business plan for the drought. “The problem is that we do not have enough water tankers. The little we do have, majority are hired. To date iLembe has spent more than R15
million on hiring water tankers. This is costing us R6 000 a day for one water tanker. We are looking at a budget of no less than R300 million to buy our own,” said the Mayor. The District Municipality is currently faced with a mammoth task of transporting water from Mandeni Local Municipality (which source is the uThukela River) to KwaDukuza and Maphumulo local municipalities. “We are getting water from Mandeni but there are indications as well that uThukela River is also steadily running dry,” he said. For the past two weeks the Ilembe Mayor a led a team of municipal officials heeding calls from residents
of iLembe District (including holiday towns such as Ballito, Zimbali, Salt Rock, and Sheffield Beach etc.) and eThekwini Metro. “We are appealing to all our residents to please continue to save and help us prolong the number of days we have water. As things stand, iLembe District Municipality has enough water for about 120 days. It doesn't look like the weather is about to change so it is important that we save the little that we have to survive,” said the Mayor.
to view streams and other possible water sources in various areas in the District. “We are in the process of drilling boreholes where there is groundwater and doing tests to see if the water is fit for human consumption. Should it not be potable than we look into purchasing treatment plants to avoid our people getting diseases and the likes,” said Cllr Mdabe. As of Friday, 30 October, the Hazelmere Dam was producing 45 million litres of water with it levels being Silver Stars Trading 312cc below 30 percent. t/a Hazelmere Dam supplies water to parts

Her brother, Siyabonga, was alerted by Nkosinathi Dube who was returning from a tavern at 1:30am when he spotted a youth known to him walking away from Margrette's place with a television. They both went to the culprit's house and he returned the television to them. Senzo Mthembu (26) is due back at court this week to seek bail.

Ndlovu (63) and Magenqele Ngcobo (61) were found next to the road with gunshot wounds. It is alleged that the two deceased went to the dipping tanks, on their way home they met the two known suspects who opened fire and they died at the scene. Nkosinathi Yini Ndlovu was the local Induna at Masiwela area. KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded detectives for their persistence and dedication in solving the cases. “We are thrilled that these criminals spend their lives in jail indefinitely for their crimes,” she said.
It's that time of the year again I shudder to think That brings us so much pain As humans, with fireworks you celebrate, but please don't leave us animals to our fate All we need is a sedative or two To keep us calm the whole night through During the celebrations, if you see us cringe in fear When the fireworks we hear, Don't hit us and tell us, “get away you mangy cur” Please comfort us, we also need love and care For though we don't shed tears like humans do We feel pain and cry out just like you Sometimes, according to you, If we do get out of line Please forgive us after all, we are only canine by Rosie Moodley

The fireworks extravaganza will be in full swing as Guy Fawkes starts on Thursday and the Hindu celebration of Diwali on Wednesday, 11 November 2015. However precaution must be undertaken to ensure that your beloved dogs, cats and other pets are safe from the stress that loud bangs bring. The community must also beware of the Kwa Dukuza bylaws regarding the discharging of fireworks in terms of days and type of pyro. Very important is that animals are not to be given medication earmarked for human beings. These safety tips are courtesy of PetMd.com:
Provide a Safe Spot Whether it's a closet or a crate, it's good for dogs and cats to have a go-to place for
relaxing or hiding away. A closet or crate, when your pet seeks out such a space, can provide a safe and secure feeling, much like a den. However, if a crate or closet creates more anxiety, it should not be used. Very often, a crate is more effective if your pet has grown up using a crate since they were young.
Counteract the Noise Distracting your pet with the TV, radioclassical music works wellor other "white noise" is will work to combat sounds of thunderstorms, fireworks and the like. Just make s u r e y o u r alternative to the fearful sounds is not being played at a deafening decibel too. This may inadvertently
add to your pet's stress level.
Use Desensitization There are some pets that are able to overcome their fears by listening to CDs or audio recordings of the loud noises during times of calm. Play it at a low volume while plying your dog or cat with positive stimuli, such as treats and affectionate petting. Slowly increase the volume over a period of weeks until it reaches the levels your pet would encounter in real life.
Consult a Professional If things are becoming overwhelming, seek p r o f e s s i o n a l h e l p . Yo u r veterinarian may be able to relieve some of the anxiety through the use of drugs. There are also board certified veterinary behaviorists that are skilled in handling these types of situations. In the end veterinarians want the same thing you want for your pet not to suffer.

DEL I
Diwali message from His Worship the Mayor Cllr Ricardo Mthembu Warm greetings on this occasion of festivity. During this Diwali, we must continue to reach out to our fellow citizens and dedicate our efforts towards the achievements of progress, unity and prosperity. As we continue with our historic task of building a South Africa that truly belongs to all who live in it, we bask in the embracing light of Diwali as we roll back the darkness of our past history of repression and cultural exclusivism. As we persist in the global quest for peace and, despite setbacks, light up the firecrackers in a spirit of optimism, we once again symbolically express our commitment to strengthen the forces fighting for decent values and peace and indeed for the development of all the people of KwaDukuza. May the Almighty bring good fortune, health, prosperity, peace and newer achievements on all the fronts on this auspicious occasion of Diwali for you and your loved ones. May the festival of light enlighten paths for a productive and fruitful year ahead. May the light that radiates from within your hearts be powerful and strong enough to eclipse the forces of evil and darkness that wreak havoc in our world. Happy Diwali! May you experience a better life in the years to come.

World Diabetes Day Love yourself, control your sugar By Xpress Reporter
World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes world and is held on November 14 each year. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. Diabetes is treatable and people living with the disease are encouraged to live active lifestyles. Local businessman, Mr Goolam Randeree (70) has been living with diabetes for the past 25 years and stresses that a proper diet is of extreme importance. “Eleven years ago, I lost my leg because of diabetes. My diabetes is wellcontrolled through insulin and regular checkups,” he said. He urges people to ditch sugary foods and fizzy drinks, stay active and follow a balanced diet. “As a person with diabetes, you will face many challenges. It is important to have a positive mindset and enjoy life,” he added. There are three types of diabetes: 1) Type 1 diabetes: The body does not produce insulin. Some people may refer to this type as insulindependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes. People usually develop type 1 diabetes before their 40th year, often in early adulthood or teenage
years. enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin your body makes, the glucose can't get into them and you have no energy. This can make you more hungry and tired than usual. · Peeing more often and being thirstier: The average person usually has to pee between four and seven times in 24 hours, but people with diabetes may go a lot more. Why? Normally your body reabsorbs glucose as it passes through your kidneys. But when diabetes pushes your blood sugar up, your body may not be able to bring it all back in. It will try to get rid of the extra by making more urine, and that takes fluids. · Dry mouth and itchy skin: Because your body is using fluids to make pee, there's less moisture for other things. You could get dehydrated, and your mouth may feel dry. Dry skin can make you itchy. · Blurred vision: Changing fluid levels in your body could make the lenses in your eyes swell up. They change shape and lose their ability to focus. All types of diabetes are treatable. Patients with type 1 are treated with regular insulin injections, as well as a special diet and exercise. Patients with Type 2 diabetes are usually treated with tablets, exercise and a special
diet, but sometimes insulin injections are also required. Treatment of diabetes: · Follow a healthy eating plan: good nutrition is important because it improves your blood glucose control. Everyone should try to follow a healthy eating plan. This means eating regular meals that are high in carbohydrates and fibre, and low in fat. · Take the correct medication: some people with diabetes will need to take insulin injections every day of their lives. Other people may need to take tablets to improve their glucose control. · Be active: being active every day will help to improve your blood glucose control. Your body uses insulin better when you exercise. The theme of World Diabetes Day, from 2014 to 2016 will be healthy living and diabetes and this year, there's a focus on starting each day right by having a healthy breakfast. A healthy breakfast should help blood sugar levels from getting too high and should keep you full through the morning. Whilst cereal and toast may be cheap, these options typically raise blood sugar levels rapidly and may leave you hungry again before lunch.

YEARS OF STRUGGLE AND PROGRESS November 16th is almost upon us and we look back with Pride on Progress and Achievements of the Indian People during the 155 years of stay in South Africa. There was no Cape Town or Durban, there was no road, harbour, no parliament buildings, airport, Kandla or KFC in sight. There was no infrastructure, no democracy or election. The Southern tip of Africa looked pretty much as it did on the day of creation. First and foremost we pay tribute to the Men and Woman who braved the unknown in the far-off days, yet radical groups threaten a RACE who has made magnanimous contributions to the economy of this country. We as a People strove for perfection in those difficult times up until now. I want to emphasize that education was close to our hearts and the fruits are reaped from generation after generation and for unschooled individuals to make statements as "Too many Indians in Natal" and "Indians dominate in all spheres of life in KZN" is jealousy. Not realising that the Indians shipped back then had an IQ level over 70% which saw them advancing in all spheres of life. They were Men and Women of courage who came to toil and sweat in Natal as it was then known, and overnight turned bushlands into caneland and the fortunes of a doubtful Sugar Industry was transformed. The Indian indentured labourers served as semi skilled to their white masters and at the end of their time the great majority made this country their home, but Man's inhumanity to Man there is no end. For their reward they earned all kinds of laws and restrictions to "Keep them in their Places", yet in spite of everything the Indians have advanced in every direction, in social spheres, education and economics. Under a favourable political climate their Advance would have been even greater. They have been as outcasts by a White community Jealous of Privileges and Domination, yet they were a deeply religious people, a people with a high moral purpose and a sense of duty with a great cultural background. A lesser people would have gone under the onslaught of those in power and authority. A determination to overcome and to stand up and fight against heavy odds, has surely been one of the main qualities of the Indians. Under the leadership of MK GANDHI, they wrote a Golden chapter in the History and they came out in Flying Colours, were the early battle lost there would have been No Indian in the union today. South Africa is yet to produce a leader of Gandhi's calibre, for Gandhi's are born, not made and are not born often. At the end of almost 155 years Indians of South Africa are a vitally alive, if oppressed community and it is Admitted that they belong here. In their checkered History there is little to be ashamed of, when their ancestors landed here, INDIA was under a foreign yoke. Now the picture has changed and in a AFRICA vibrant and ALIVE they are bound to play an important part in shaping the future, a future in which we must play our part as South Africans. Yet we consider that the worst is behind us and things can only change for the better as the whole World is changing. Therefore in the context of the greater South Africa of the future we see ourselves, and in that context the INDIAN people have no mean part to play. Let us then enter the future with FAITH and confidence, even as our PIONEERS did "conquering, holding, daring and venturing." - "Pioneer's oh pioneers" M.Parmasivan Community activist Darnall Resident applauds Edge to Edge contractors work I would like to complement the company that is currently undertaking the Hill Crescent roadworks. Minimal disruption to road users, workers always on site even on weekends, proper signage to inform drivers about road closures and the speed at which the work is being carried out etc. How refreshing to see a professional company at work after the previous debacle that lasted a year. Rehana Khan Seaview Road Justice for all I have noticed with dismay the dumping of building rubble between the supper room and municipal offices. This rubble has been lying here for so long that weeds are now growing through it. I was also renovating my store at one stage. I had decided to pile up my rubble so as to pay for one trip rather than waste money on paying for several trips. However, my explanation fell on deaf ears when your officers issued me with a summons. I went to court where my explanation was understood and charges against me were withdrawn. The burning question in respect off your violation of the building regulations are simple are you above the law or do you just don't care? Judging by the pig sty condition of our town, it appears that the latter as well as the former fit your offices perfectly. Please lead by example and do not waste time trying to justify this arrogant disregard for the rule of law as well as the environment. Just simply clean up! this beautiful country. Virtually everyday people encounter naked acts of vile racism directed against them. With the advent of democracy 20 + years ago, some things have changed and others have not. Racism for me is a system of oppression for social purpose. In light of the fact that Indians in South Africa fought in the struggle for freedom, it seems ludicrous that anyone would be bold and misinformed that Indian South Africans should not be given the right to equal opportunities or considered an integral part of this country. It is this kind of thinking that divides this nation instead of building it up, and it must stop for all ourselves. Racial injustice may be the most morally and intellectually vexing problem in the public life of this country. Our past was founded on forms of domination, inequality and oppression which involved the absolute denial of freedom for the majority. How could the ideals of equality and freedom coexist with the racism by stealth today? Discrimination Water crisis gets worse The situation has not improved in the last two weeks with anger and frustrations being the daily order of life by residents. While many have adjusted to the reality some are still struggling to put alternate basics in place. I, again appeal to the residents of my ward that if you can afford to buy JOJO tanks or smaller containers to store water for at least a week's supply or more do so. Without rain the situation has gotten worse. Even more worse is a one tanker service for the whole of Stanger Manor. Ilembe is experiencing resource challenging and cooperation is needed by ALL. Currently the demand for water outstrips the supply. Prayer for rain is our only hope while Reservoir names Stanger Manor

continues to exist, both in mundane social interactions and in the major institutional contexts in which lives and opportunities are formed. These discriminatory practices harm people, they violate values of fairness and they block the further advance of racial equality. Acute poverty and economic marginalization continue to characterise the lives of the masses. This is the painful legacy of apartheid. Any serious political project to address these issues must deal directly both with the problems of economic deprivation and with continuing discrimination. Racialised poverty is South Africa's biggest time bomb. If left unchecked, it will destroy this country. The sins and legacy of apartheid remain embedded in our collective memory. I believe all South Africans regardless of race, are woven into the fabric of this country and all must play their part to ensure a bright future. The only way to move forward is to contribute to building a society based on the ideals of our first democratic president, Nelson Mandela, who fought to unite the people of this country and proudly acknowledged Indian South Africans as being instrumental in the struggle to free South Africa from the chains of apartheid. It is high time that we took a page from Madiba's book and focus on uniting the people of South Africa. God bless South Africa. Are the 2015 All Blacks Dawnheights win the greatest team ever? opening 50 over game Dawnheights Cricket Club recorded their opening victory in the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union Challenge 50 over league when they beat Tongaat by 3 wickets in a league match played at the Tongaat Outspan grounds this past Sunday. Tongaat won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to score 197 all out in 41 overs. The destroyerin-chief was Francois Mostert who claimed a 5 wicket haul from 10 overs giving away a paltry 39 runs. He was ably assisted by manof-the-match, Mathew Dean who took two wickets for 43 runs from 10 overs. Levan Moodley, Sagar Arora and Arun Kumar took one wicket apiece to restrict Tongaat to 197. Dawnheights innings got off to a disastrous start when they lost opener Levan Moodley for a duck without even troubling the scoreboard. He was caught and bowled by L. Govender. In walked Dean and he and Byron Athymoolan took the score to 30 before Athymoolan became
Govender's second victim when he was caught by S. Pillay. Keane Govender and Mohammed Shahad did not last long in the middle scoring 11 and 13 respectively. Govender was run out by L. Govender whilst Shahad was cleaned bowled by R. Madhoe with the score at 110. Dean found a partner in Arora as the pair put on 31 for the 5th wicket. Arora was eventually out for 43 when he was caught be R. Reddy off the bowling of D. Nohari. Dean soon lost his wicket for a well-deserved 70. He was bowled by L. Govender. Arun Kumar was next to go after scoring just 8 as he was clean bowled by Govender once again but the damage was already done. It was left to Adhir Maharaj and Suhil Singh to take Dawnheights over the line scoring 200 in 38.1 overs. Dawnheights scored a whopping 92 runs in boundaries that included 20 fours and 2 sixes. The pick of the bowlers for Tongaat was L. Govender who claimed 4 wickets and a run out.
The question on everyone's mind is: Is the 2015 Rugby World Cup winners, New Zealand the greatest team of all time? Their rivals believe so but not Captain Richie McCaw. New Zealand comprehensive beat rivals Australia 34-17 to be crowned champions for the third time. They have become the only team to win back-to-back world cups and have received praises from around the world. Former Springbok coach Nick Mallet said it capped a phenomenal four years for the All Blacks in which they won 49 of 54 games, lost three and drew two. "People are saying is this the greatest team? I wonder why we are still asking that question," Mallett said. "They've retained the World Cup and found ways to win games they should lose. When they get it right they hammer teams. This was 34-17 in a final, it was a tough game, but they still won by that margin. That's some achievement." Former England coach Clive Woodward, writing for the Mail Online website, also praised the All Blacks who have become the first side to win the World Cup three times having previously triumphed in 1987 and 2011. "To win one World Cup is amazing but to win back-toback tournaments is off the scale and I can only congratulate
everybody in the New Zealand party from coach Steve Hansen downwards," Woodward wrote. McCaw, however, the most experienced Test player in the world with 148 caps, and a veteran of four World Cups, was not willing to rate the 2015 champions ahead of the 2007 side which was bundled out in the quarter-finals. "I always said the 2007 team that went to the World Cup was one of the most talented teams I've been in, but the results show we didn't achieve our potential," he said. "This team's had a real core of guys for four years together who have been able to do the job. There's no doubt it's right up there with one of the best." McCaw, who was also captain when the 2007 side achieved New Zealand's worst performance at a World Cup and again in 2011 when they won, said the significance of winning back-to-back trophies was still sinking in. "It's just that we got the job done," he said. "It was a job we came here to do and when you achieve what you want to do you just sit back with a bit of pride and satisfaction rather than jumping around. "So I'm looking forward to that opportunity when we get home on Wednesday.
