A local pensioner has once again expressed her disappointment as she alleges that she has been defrauded again. This comes after the senior citizen did not receive her pension payout for April, and was allegedly told by a SASSA official that “there are four cards made on her name.” This is not the first time that the elderly woman has experienced this injustice. According to a family member, the pensioner usually receives her pension pay-out through her SASSA account. However, back in November last year, the money did not come through. “When my aunt noticed that her grant was not in her account, I contacted SASSA. The SASSA employee investigated and said that there was a fraudulent transaction, as the money was withdrawn with a new
card at a Post Office in Queensburgh. That was in November last year.” The family member added that they enquired with SASSA officials at the KwaDukuza Post office. “The necessary forms were filled out at the Post Office and an employee informed us that the matter will be investigated. Her pension pay-out for November still hasn't been recovered, and now it has happened again.” This time, family members allege that they were informed by a SASSA representative that the pensioner can apply for a food voucher, provided that she agrees to pay back the value once her money is recovered. SASSA offices declined to comment on the matter, and referred us to the Regional and Communications departments which could not be reached at the time of going to press.

New facilities for Masikane Old Age Home The Masikane Old Age Home and Community Centre (Masikane) took ownership of a brand new Respite and Care facility for the elderly on Friday, 3 May 2019. The new building, which will provide shelter
and palliative care for elderly people from the local community, was built at a cost of R4.3-million by the Sibaya Community Trust. “The elderly are amongst the most marginalized in the society, especially in poorer
communities where there are limited resources and little funding support for old age care centres. When we heard that the Masikane needed assistance with upgrading its old age care facility to comply with current standards, we

wanted to help. The centre provides an essential and value adding service to its community. We wanted to ensure that it could continue to do so, said Vivian Reddy, Chairman of the Sibaya Community Trust. Masikane was established by the late Reverend Masikane and his wife who had a passion for the elderly and infirm in their rural community. After his passing, the organisation was formally registered as a non-profit organisation and run by nurses, a visiting GP and community health care workers. The facility has a l i c e n s e t o accommodate 50 aged patients but the Department of Social Department requested that Masikane upgrade the facility to meet its current infrastructure and operational standards, as well as those of the Department of Health. Masikane needed to replace hospital beds and other equipment, as well as secure a second building to
house those with communicable diseases like TB separately. Work on the project commenced in 2017. Local contractors were responsible for the building works through the Imbumba Group and labourers were sourced from the local community. In addition to upgrading the old age facility, including furnishings, Sibaya Community Trust also fund the construction of admin offices for Masikane as well as a hall which can be rented out to generate income for the centre. The Sibaya Community Trust, formerly known as the Afrisun KZN Community Development Trust, was formed in 1998 with the intention of being a catalyst for social development and philanthropy in the area in which it operates. The trust focuses on community upliftment projects in the EThekwini and ILembe districts, with an emphasis on health, social and community development, and education. To date, the Trust has spent R50-million in ILembe District. Major projects have included; R11-million on the Matric Academic Development Initiative, R20million in skills development.

The DA has proven that we are capable of managing the real problems that South Africa faces. Where we govern, we deliver for all and we deliver far better services faster and more effectively. We are a vehicle that can drive our country to where it needs to be,” said Maimane. “The South African people deserve a government that will put them first. The high rate of crime in the country is unbelievable, police force lack resources to perform their duties. As the leader of the people we will ensure police are well resourced to bring crime to a halt,” added Maimane. DA Cllr in KwaDukuza. Madhun Sing urged residents to come out in numbers and exercise their right to vote. “Your vote is your voice, I plead with people of KwaDukuza especially those who are undecided to go out and vote,” said Sing.

MEC hands over multi-purpose sports facility The MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Mrs Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi accompanied by His Worship the Mayor of Ndwedwe Local Municipality Councillor Vincent Chili and iLembe District municipality Speaker, Councillor Lucky Makhathini officially handed over the Sonkombo Multi- purpose Sport facility to Ndwedwe community on 25 April. The multi-purpose sport facility is under Ndwedwe in ward 11, Sonkombo area. The new sport facility consists of main soccer field, athletic track and stand, two combination courts and outdoor gym. During the introduction of the MEC, Speaker of iLembe District Municipality, Councillor Lucky Makhathini said “this state of the art facility is built by the current government in order to strengthen sustainable programmes and that they must commence from a ward level leading to provincial level.” Delivering the keynote address, MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Mrs Bongiwe SitholeMoloi said “talent identification pathways must be in place to identify and nurture the talent, from developmental, national and
international competition including Paralympic and Special Olympics. The government decided to build this kind of facility to introduce many codes in rural areas and codes should be separated to ensure that a competition structure is created to ensure that all codes are promoted.” She concluded her speech by emphasising that sports competitions needed to be created in order to give athletes opportunities to showcase their talent. This is an effort by the Department to promote active lifestyles among citizens with disability by encouraging them to participate in sport and recreation activities. In closing, His Worship Mayor of Ndwedwe Municipality, Councillor Vincent Chili said, “We as Ndwedwe have received more than three major development projects from Provincial and National department. With this sporting facility which is for everyone who lives in Ndwedwe, we appeal to the community to take ownership of this facility.” He concluded his speech by promising the Ndwedwe residents that Ndwedwe will never be the same with the current government and reminded community to go and vote.

Further to my letter dated 24 APRIL 2019, in which I addressed the issue of the unacceptably unkempt and disorderly condition of our town, may I add my voice to that of the disillusioned and disenchanted multitude relating to another very serious issue. Just as a matter of interest, many people met me in and around the town and concurred 100% with what I wrote, relating to the rapid deterioration and decline of our beloved Stanger. They urged me to continue bringing such matters to the attention of the town planners and major role players. My intention in this letter is not to offend or put down anybody, but simply to serve as a reminder to the people concerned about their responsibility towards the completion of the new KwaDukuza Mall. My letter deals with the dense traffic that we have to contend with everyday as we go towards or head away from the new mall. Yes, I'm told that the licence to trade has been granted and that the money is in the bank and both the

town's fathers and the mall developers are quite content and that all is done and dusted. I am now inconvenienced and forced to visit the mall because my decadesold banking facilities in the CBD have been relocated. My goodness! It's a most demanding and unpleasant task to be stuck in the midst of heavy traffic at any part of the day. It's an absolute ordeal, especially at the intersection leading to the mall, where there should have been functional traffic lights (robots) installed. You see, one has to use the roads daily either by car or on foot in order to appreciate the arduous nature of the trip. I'm just too perplexed and bemused at how our town is being run by certain individuals who seem to be beyond reproach and censure. I can't believe that ONE wealthy person has altered the structure and system of our entire town. It's as if the whole town is being held to ransom. How can this person sleep peacefully knowing that so many people have been hassled by this development?
Besides many shops and offices in insolence and impudence of (as is often portrayed about this the CBD being vacant (closed wealth. “You just wait until I developer) are lost if many down), the shopping distance to the decide to install the traffic lights. hundreds of people have to pay a mall is quite far and unsafe. Date : 11 May 2019 (Saturday) Venue : 24 Tulip Rd, Stanger Manor Time : 10am God looked around his garden and he found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain, he knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and hills were hard to climb, so he closed your weary eyelids and whispered ‘peace be tine’. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you, The day God called you home. Love you forever our son.

Darnall favourites to lift Easter Cup Darnall have placed the tags as favourites to lift the KwaDukuza Volleyball Association Easter Cup by eliminating their nemesis and winners of the season opening tournament, Shakas Sporting who conceded the runner up spot and semi final spot to Sunbrook. There was nothing separation the two powerhouses in the opening set. For Shakas Sporting, it was do or die as victory would secure a semi final berth and defeat would throw them out of the tournament, son they gave it all. They held on for a narrow 2624 victory. However, Darnall seemed to that extra energy come the second set as they cruised to a 25-17 win and pumped up their game in the final set and ran away 15-9 winners, thus ending Shakas' hopes. With Shakas out, it was left to Sunbrook to secure that crucial second spot in the pool and they did not disappoint as they cruised
to a 25-17 victory in the first set against Cool Leaders. Cool Leaders did give Sunbrook a bit of a scare the second set but Sunbrook finished off 25-21 winners secure that semi final spot. In the Pool B matches, despite Heights going down 15-35, 13-25 to Bethel CC, they ended up runners up with Bethel winning the group. The other game between Manor Old Boys and Glenhills s e e m e d elementary. However, MOB won that game 2512, 25-20. The semi finals were held last night but scores were not available at the time of print. However, Darnall would have been
favourites to secure a final spot when they played minnows Heights whilst the other final spot would have been hard to predict in the match between Sunbrook and Bethel. The finals will be played tomorrow (Thursday) at the association courts at 8pm with the play-offs scheduled at 7pm.
