Reporter assaulted by alleged taxi thugs Accident scene turns ugly

An Xpress Times Reporter was assaulted by a group of alleged taxi members just for doing his job. The reporter arrived at the scene of an accident involving a taxi in Stanger Manor on 3 February 2017 at approximately 9:30am and began taking photos of the crash when he was approached by three men. “I was taking photos at the scene of the accident, like everyone else and more especially like other journalists on the scene. Three gentlemen asked me why I was taking photos of them and I told them that I am

only taking photos of the crashed taxi and not them,” said the reporter. He was then slapped repeatedly before the camera was taken from him and he was told to delete the photos. “After realizing that I was on the phone, talking about what they had done, they gave me my camera.” The Xpress Times driver approached a policewoman, while the reporter was being assaulted in full view of the public, who simply told him that the reporter should stand aside. This type of thuggery by alleged taxi members is

unacceptable. The SAPS should investigate the matter. The accident, which took place on the R74 at the Stanger Manor traffic lights, involved a taxi and three other vehicles. A lifeless body was discovered in the aftermath of the crash. It is alleged that at about 2pm, a resident alerted police about a body near the scene of the accident. According to Officer Johannes Khoza of KwaDukuza SAPS, a 35year-old passenger was killed and 11 others were injured.

ML Sultan learner scoops top prize By Xpress Reporter

Participants in Sibaya Community Trust's, Matric Academic Development Initiative (MADI) received much-needed cash awards for their outstanding performances during the 2016 matric exams at an awards ceremony at Sun Sibaya last week. Topping the list was 18-year old, Samkelo Gasela of ML Sultan Secondary in KwaDukuza, who won the Tristan Kaatze DUX Shield and a 'life-changing' R200 000 bursary to go with it. Gasela said he was thankful to the sponsors as they have enabled him to study B.Com at UKZN. “This was a huge surprise. I knew I was going to receive an award but I was not aware there was such a huge incentive. All I can say is that this is a godsent.” He said he owed his performance to the Saturday and holiday classes provided by MADI. “Had it not been for the initiative, I would never have performed so well. So thank you Sibaya Community Trust, your efforts are highly appreciated,” said Gasela. ML Sultan Secondary school principal, Mr. Khuzwayo said, “Many Saturdays and holidays were like normal school days for our matric students as we had to monitor

Learners were provided with lunch every time when they attended, and towards the end of the year, they were given transport fare for all extra classes. “It demanded a lot of work on our part as teaching staff but it was worth it”, said Mr Khuzwayo, who was visibly happy with the outcome of the project. Mayor calls for clean audit By Xpress Reporter

KwaDukuza Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Ricardo Mthembu has urged his council to strive for a clean audit in the current financial year. His worship said this in a council meeting held at KwaDukuza council chambers on Tuesday, 31 January 2017. This municipality is no stranger to scooping clean audit reports as it

received it for four consecutive years from 2006 - 2009 under then Auditor-General Terrence Nombembe. “If we strive for a clean audit, we will get it,” said Mthembu before adding that there are some members who do not work to the best of their abilities. “I am putting this officially, some people, somewhere,

somehow are playing games and it should be dealt with,” said the mayor as he continued to lament lack of hard work from some of the council members and questioned why a clean audit cannot be obtained. “I am calling a spade a spade. 'A' is 'A' and it cannot be a 'B'. Let us play a fair game and strive for one goal,” concluded Mthembu.

Grandfather sentenced for rape By Xpress Reporter

The KwaDukuza Regional Court has convicted and sentenced a 69-year-old grandfather to 45 years imprisonment for three counts of rape. According to Captain Nqobile Gwala of the KZN Media Centre, the incident occurred in Glendale in 2014. “The grandfather was left with two grandchildren aged 9 and 11 to look after them while their mother was at work. The accused would call the victims on different occasions and rape them. “He continued doing this until he was caught in the act by a neighbour who reported the matter to the victim's mother. When the young girls were questioned they confirmed the incident,” said Gwala. She added that the matter was reported to the police and the docket was transferred to KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation. The accused was arrested and charged accordingly. “Another 13-year-old victim

Mammoth funding for Child Welfare

Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza is pleased to report that the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) allocated a grant of R995 000.00 to the Society for the 2017/2018 financial years. The funds were approved for the following items and projects: operational costs, Poverty Alleviation programmes for victims of HIV/AIDS, the Domestic Worker's Empowerment programme, safe house facility, social relief for indigent children, staff development programmes. The Domestic Workers Empowerment programme was initiated in 1997 and involves the training of unemployed women and men in domestic work. Approximately 250 students graduate annually. They secure employment as domestic workers, child care workers waitresses and office assistants. Income is generated to improve their quality of life. The project is successfully sustained for 20 years. The safe house facility was initiated in 2011 and is a safe haven for abused, neglected and abandoned children. With the high rate of child abuse and abandoned children, the safe house is an essential facility in KwaDukuza. With the funds from the National Lotteries Commission, the Society will be able to sustain the safe house and the Domestic Workers Empowerment programme. The allocation of the funds is a clear indication that the Society complies with the requirements of the National Lotteries Commission in terms of service delivery. It is also an acknowledgement of the vital role the Society plays in the social upliftment of the community. The management committee and staff of the Society place on record their sincere appreciation to the National Lotteries Commission for the generous allocation of the grant. Customers win with Furniture Mart Hopeful customers gathered on Monday, 6 February 2017 for Furniture Mart's “Win with Us” Competition draw. Three sheep, a cow and mystery prizes were up for grabs. Lucky customers walked away with these fabulous prizes.

The Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Hon Lydia Johnson, together with Members of the Legislature will be conducting follow up stakeholder meetings to all Districts within the Province of KwaZulu-Natal. Following the success of the Legislature's Schools Opening Functionality Programme, that took place from 11 - 13 January 2017, a strong view emerged that due to complexity of issues raised in stakeholder meetings, urgent follow-up meetings should be convened. In almost all meetings it came up that while education is viewed as a social issue, there is still a challenge of poor parental involvement and support. Therefore, it has been deemed necessary to create another platform for broader engagement on this aspect so that parents are conscientised about the importance of their involvement on school matters.

WINNER: Miss Pillay walked away with the grand prize (a cow). She is seen with the owner of Furniture Mart, Yusuf Manjra

Stakeholders expected to attend this meeting are: Mayors; Speakers Councillors, MMs, Traditional Leaderships, Principal Reps. SGBs, Learner Reps, Teacher Unions, Ward Committee Members, CDWs, Interfaith Sector, NGOs, Members of Operation Sukuma Sakhe, LTT Members, War Room Members and interest groups. Follow up Stakeholders meeting at ILembe is scheduled as follows:

Date: Friday, 10 February 2017 Time: 10H00 Venue: Sibusisiwe Hall(Mandeni) Parents and members of the community are urged to attend this meeting.

LUCKY: Winner of a sheep, Steven (right) is seen with the owner of Furniture Mart, Yusuf Manjra

MAMA ALISHA

2016 THE BEST YEAR OF MY LIFE- ALL THANKS TO MAMA ALISHA I am Mr Vijay Tinnet from Stanger Manor. I was a security guard for 15 years but had nothing to show as my salary too was small. I had fear to marry becuase I had fear that I couldn’t support a big family. One day I was chatting with Jan Corbus my previous work mate who had become rich so fast and he told me to go to Mama Alisha because she had helped him to get rich. He called her and told her he was sending me to her. The next day I went, she started with a prayer, then she told me to use a magic wallet. I took the magic wallet home, after only 3 days she had told me I woke up checked the wallet and here was a lot of money. I went back to her she said it will bring more. I bought myself a brand new range rover & A home in Umhlanga and also got married. I opened my own business thanks too Mama Alisha

MY WIFE TOLD ME TO GO TO HELL WHEN I WAS POOR BUT SHE WANTS ME BACK BECAUSE IM RICH I am Cliff from Umhlanga. I came to know about Mama Alisha from Auntie Merina who lives in Stanger and had previously visited her with a financial problem and it had been fixed. I had lost all my money, cars, business some of which was left to me by my late parents. When things went real bad. My wife told me to go to hell and started having affairs looking out for rich men and when I confronted her about it she told me go to hell, left me alone and went. I suffered for almost 2 years but meeting Mama Alisha rose me up again. She gave me a magic wallet with which I could get money daily inside my house. I opened up a new business worth 2 million rands bought 2 new cars and when my wife heard that I am up again she wants me back, thinking of forgiving her but am not sure. Only that she is the mother of my 3 kids. I can forgive her for only that. If Alisha bought my life back to normal, I know she can help you too.

071 022 3640 DR MAMA HANNA RICH INDIAN WOMEN TESTIFIES HER SECRET OF SUCCESS!!!!! I am Pillay Salma 38 years old living in Tongaat. It is true that my success is not a gift but a decision I made it. It took me a while to trust anybody since I was destroyed by the previous doctors, sangoma’s and herbalists that used in the past. They disappointed me until today I cannot get hold of them as their phones are not answered. I called a business friend of mine for help and she shared a secret of success which was Mama Hanna changed her life and became rich though the short boys that put 500 000 in her account and every month she pay 100 000 to Mama Hanna. It was a dream until she showed me her bank statement. I also got the same short boys and my life changed I and my family we are financially happy. Thanks to MAMA HANNA. Disappointed with other doctors.

The South African rugby community was in mourning on Monday following the passing of Joost van der Westhuizen, one of South Africa's greatest-ever Springbok legends. Van der Westhuizen passed away after a long and courageous struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a form of motor neuron disease (MND), for the past six years. He was 45 and leaves behind two children, Jordan (13) and Kylie (10), as well as his father Gustav, mother Mariana, and brothers Pieter and Gustav. “Joost will be remembered as one of the greatest Springboks not only of

his generation, but of all time,” said Mark Alexander, President of SA Rugby. “As a player, he lifted the Rugby World Cup, Tri-Nations and Currie Cup while establishing himself as one of the best scrumhalves world rugby has ever seen. He was the record holder for the most Test tries for the Springboks for more than 13 years and finished his international career with 38 Test tries. “He also became an inspiration and hero to many fellow sufferers of this terrible disease as well as to those unaffected. iLembe title hopes dented iLembe Cricket Club's aspiration of clinching the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union Challenge league (stream I) took a huge dent when the succumbed to Amanzimtoti Cricket Club (ACC) this past Sunday. iLembe won the toss and decided to field in favourable bowling conditions. ACC openers got off to a slow start reaching 23 before D. Reddy was bowled by I. Mahomed for 11 in the 6th over. Reddy's partner, J. Michaux was bowled by S. Sadayan for 11 as well in the next over. With the total on 32, Sadayan bowled W. Wepenaar for 7 and iLembe were on top. However, the match was turned on its head with a 106 run 4th wicket partnership between R. Smith and J. Taylor. The left hand and right hand ACC middle order combination frustrated the iLembe bowlers and fielders as they found the boundary at will. iLembe's poor performance in the field cost them dearly as Smith reached a resilient 59 (ten 4's), before being

caught of the bowling of R. Kazi. T. Naidoo 6, J. Clark 0, Q. Grobler 3, fell cheaply as iLembe fought back to some degree, but Taylor conservatively reached 48 (four 4's) before he fell victim to an Alex Pillay lbw in the 39th over. Number 9 batsman, A. Mather played a cameo of 24* (four 4's,one 6) as number 10 and 11 both fell for ducks to B. Ismail. ACC posted 180 all after 40.5 overs. Kazi 3/14 in ten, B. Ismail 2/1 in 0.5, Sadayan 2/25 in 8 and Alex Pillay 2/47 in 10, were the pick of the bowlers. Needing 3.62 for victory, iLembe's run chase got off to a very poor start as they lost their first 6 wickets with the score on 47 after 15 overs. ACC's seamers A. Mather and B. Prismal, proved to be too hot to handle for the brittle ilembe batting line up. The next 3 wickets fell for 49 runs as iLembe's best partnership was the last wicket stand between Kazi and Sadayan of 23 as iLembe crumbled to 123 all out in 23 overs. Prismal, 5/35 in 10 and Enrolment for 2017 NOW OPEN Mather 3/37 in 9, brought iLembe back down to earth. ! Multimedia Computer Fundamentals ! Typing Introduction to MS Windows ACC won by 57 runs.
