Innovative Methology NPC hands over new grade R class rooms Continued from Page 1 their strategic objectives by funding a new Grade R unit for their 66, five and six year olds. Class size matters and ideally we need Grade R to have no more than 20 students per class. The two new classrooms allow for dedicated classroom space with improved child to teacher ratios for the Grade Rs and Grade 6 and 8 who have their classrooms back again” said Boodoo. The construction of the new classroom yielded the empowerment of l o c a l a n d independent contractors, suppliers and creation of local employment. Pradeep Boodoo further added that making a difference and building better lives is a priority for Builders SA, M y S c h o o l M y V i l l a g e MyPlanet and I n n o v a t i v e Methology NPC. School Principal, Nduduzo Ngcobo
said the new classrooms will ease the burden of overflowing class rooms and allow for further intake of Grade R students and ensure that many more children receive basic primary education, “The school was hard hit by the Covid 19 Pandemic, and we urgently needed more space for Grade R learners and toilets.
The department assisted with mobile toilets but we not user friendly to grade R pupils. We are thankful to all the role players who made the construction of two classrooms and ablution facilities a success,” said Ngcobo. The principal added that he hopes the handover of the classroom is a birth of a long
partnership between the school and Innovative Methology NPC, MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet and other stake holders. Zilungisele Primary School is situated in Mnyundweni, Groutville, it reported that the school was originally built in 1920 by parents from local community.

KZN DOE orders teachers to return to work
A year since Covid-19 hit SA A year since covid-19 was first discovered in South Africa, on the 5 March 2020, Kwa-Zulu Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala was speaking at a ceremony held at Grey's Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. On Friday, to mark the first anniversary of the country's first confirmed case. Zikalala said he is very optimistic about the recent decline in covid-19 cases however he is well aware of the threat of the third wave in SA which

Following a move to Level 1 lockdown, the Department Education in KwaZuluNatal last week urged all educators and support staff at school and offices to return to work. Head of Departments at KZN DOE, Dr E.V. Nzama said school based educators and support staff who are 60 years and older or with comorbidities considered to place them at high risk of complication if infected with Covid-19 were permitted to apply for concession in term of DBE Circular No.1 of 2021 and its subsequent addendum, “The provision of these directives were specifically applicable for the duration of Alert level 3 and 2 of the national state of disaster with an indication that it would 'lapse' if the country goes down to alert level 1. “Similarly, HRM Circular No.3 of 2021 titled 'Working Arrangements for office based employees during alert level 3' was issued. This circular provided for reduction rate in the staff complement of not more

said Zikalala. Zikalala added that the impact of the detection of covid-19 in South Africa, communities must be aware of the looming threat of the third wave of the virus it could be worse than the first and second wave, due to the possible mutation of the virus. “Government will continue doing all in its power to fasttrack the arrival of more doses of the vaccine, so that the public can take advantage thereof, It is up to the rest of us to play our part by following the precautions at all times, as we await to be vaccinated, and to ensure that that we seize the opportunity of being protected against the vaccine when it becomes available to the public,” said Zikalala.

experts have predicted to occur between the winter months June and July. There has been a substantial decline in the daily new infection rate in the country, many believe this could be the end of the second wave of the virus, the second wave claimed more lives than the first wave. SA also saw an increase in the variant 501Y.V2. “We have reason to feel somewhat relieved by these recent statistics, because they indicate a significant decline from our peak in late December and around the beginning of the This is a period when TAKE AWAY year. red flags were flashing all 084 569 4736 / over, as we registered up to 081 501 3255 6900 new cases per day,”

than 50% at any given time and this was achieved through shift working arrangements, rotation of staff, staggered hours and working remotely,” said Nzama. All educators and support staff at the school, except those on approved leave were directed to return to work for the full duration of the official hours. “In terms of the statement by the president of South Africa on 28 February 2021, the country has now been moved to alert level 1. The special concessions and working arrangements agreed upon for alert level 3 is therefore no longer apply. It must be emphasised that the return to work of all employees must be done with strict observance of the Covid-19 protocols at all times,” added Nzama. It is up to the Principals to see that all educators are present at their respective schools and teaching, or else stay at home and take it off sick leave.
