trucks and encourage parents to take responsibility towards their children's safety. Speaking at the campaign, ward Cllr Thandeka Ngidi articulated that it's imperative to have awareness campaigns of this magnitude constantly as they focus more on children's safety. “It's our duty as parents to ensure the safety our children. Government cannot be the only responsible stakeholder in this matter, parents need to play their part. As Mvumbi Branch we commit ourselves in eradicating this issue,” said Cllr Ngidi. Deputy Mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality, Cllr Dolly Govender called for law enforcement intervention on the matter. “I appeal to all parents to take care of your children, don't make it the government's responsibility. With the community of this ward we commit ourselves in fighting this problem,” said Govender. The event concluded with a Clean Up campaign on the road leading to Gledhow Sugar Company.

Body of missing teenager found By Xpress Reporter

The body of a 16-year-old swimmer who went missing on Monday, 01 October 2018 while swimming at Blythedale beach, was found washed up on Zinkwazi beach in the early hours of Thursday last week (04 October 2018). It is alleged that the teenager encountered some difficulty while swimming and was swept further by waves to the sea. IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Paul Herbst indicated that the body was found in the North of Zinkwazi Beach. “The body has been washed up about two kilometres north of Zinkwazi beach. The body has been recovered by IPSS Medical Rescue together with KwaDukuza lifeguards and SAPS Search and Rescue officers. It will be handed over to police,” said Herbst.

KDM implements Debtors' Amnesty Scheme Council aims to enhance service delivery By Xpress Reporter

waDukuza Municipality during its Council sitting on 04 October 2018, conclusively adopted the rollout of the Thuma-Mina Campaign together with its action plan, the implementation of a Debtors' Amnesty Scheme that will run until June 2019 and also granted approval to host the 3rd Imvunge Maskandi Music Festival which will be staged during October 2018. Council will be implementing a Debtors' Incentive Scheme for a fixed period in a bid to enhance debt recovery and encourage prompt payments. “The Department of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs has recently asked municipalities to reduce arrear debts by 50% therefore, Council adopted the Incentive Scheme as a debt collection mechanism with an objective to improve the current payment levels and to recover arrear debts. This means that those who owe substantial debts to Council are able to make arrangements to settle their capital debt without any accumulated interests within a fixed period; should there be any interest on the arrear debt, it will be reversed. “This is a humane and a costefficient scheme that will benefit the customers as well as Council so that we may deliver services in the best interest of the community in a way that is financially sustainable. The incentive scheme will also

assist customers involved in lengthy litigations to settle their capital debts. This offer is only valid from 01 November 2018 to 26 June 2019 wherein, the final settlement must appear in the municipality's primary bank account on 26 June 2019. “In terms of our income analysis, Council has done fairly well in recovering the arrear capital debt however, more debts can potentially be recovered if a functional incentive scheme is implemented in the right way.” The scheme will not apply to debtors whose legal judgment has already been obtained against them. “KwaDukuza Municipality will be rolling out the Thuma Mina Campaign with a view of enhancing service delivery, working together with local communities. The programme will be characterized by a number of activities involving the community, government officials and councillors. The concept of Thuma Mina is drawn from the patriarchal times where the Lord wanted to send the Prophet to deliver His holy message to His people. One of the prophets was heard saying “Lord send me” which meant that 'Lord Thuma Mina'.” KwaDukuza Council will be implementing the programme from the month of October 2018 until June 2019 and will carry out the following activities: Clean-up campaigns, patching of potholes, marking of roads, repairing of

streetlights, registering indigents and encouraging payment of accounts, encouraging young people to form co-operatives and assisting youth to develop business plans. “Council has delegated the Mayor and the Municipal Manager to meet with the labor force, Ward Committees and other strategic stakeholders to unpack the Thuma Mina Programme.” Council agreed to host the 3rd Imvunge Maskandi Music Festival in a bid to promote Social Cohesion Dialogues and Addressing Harvesting ahead of the 2019 General Elections. “The event will present the Municipality with an opportunity to address its messages relating to social cohesion and to a captive the local audience. The IEC will also be afforded an opportunity to address issues of voter registration and address harvesting. “This event will help harness different cultures and build on social cohesion. It will allow local artists to showcase their talents alongside their counterparts who are already enjoying the national stage. The event will be hosted on 27th October 2018 at eThembeni Sports Ground.”

Zondi is also the former secretary of the ANC Youth League in KwaDukuza.

Suspects sentenced for 2016 murder By Xpress Reporter

On Wednesday, 3 October 2018, Durban High Court convicted and sentenced two accused, Siphamandla Sangweni (29) and Philani Khambule (26) to life imprisonment each for murder, 15 years each for

I'm one of those South Africans who is angry and deeply saddened by the brutal murders, crime and corruption. We need to get rid of the anger and violence that we see in our schools and communities on a daily basis. Whatever happens in a particular community affects everyone who lives in it. People who live in an idle community with no recreational activities and with a high unemployment rate are likely to venture into substance abuse and crime. That's why there are so many shebeens and taverns in our ka-sis. As if these social ills are not enough, the Constitutional court recently decriminalised the use of marijuana for personal use. This ruling will only add fuel to the fire and lead to more lawlessness. Our communities promote bad behaviour and set bad examples. We celebrate short cuts instead of hard work. We except future generations to miraculously become successful future leaders. The recent violence in schools is a result of the bad example set by us in our communities. Parents protect their children from their wrongdoing. They even go as far as condemning teachers and taking their children's side. I believe that education will help us instil a sense of responsibility, respect for life, dignity, self-respect, patriotism and solidarity in our communities. There's an urgent need to intensify psychological liberation and solidarity in communities. For those of us who are true patriots and law-abiding citizens, we don't have a choice but to organise ourselves and rise up in memory of all those who were murdered. There won't be any change until we lead by example and become good role models. You can't sow weeds and expect to reap fruits. We are our own worst enemies. What we do today will influence what will happen tomorrow. It's time to do things differently and change our attitudes. GOD BLESS SOUTH AFRICA! Yousaf ensures iLembe cruise to double header victory Cricket Club won their home double header in the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union T20 fixtures played at the Gledhow Cricket Oval this past Sunday. A brilliant half century by man-of-the match, N. Yousaf ensured that iLembe claim the double victory in the second game by beating Hillary Malvern by a whopping 67 runs. Yousaf smashed six boundaries and three massive sixes on his way to 76 after iLembe skipper Z. Ali won the toss and opted to bat. Ali's decision paid off as the iLembe batters took Hillary's bowlers to the cleaners amassing 202/6 in their allotted 20 overs. There were impressive contributions from S. Chetty (45), A. With four singles game to go Singh's Fireworks Team had to dig deep into their pockets to salvage some pride. However this was short lived as Justin Naidoo beat Meersing Sobram in the opening game to give Dhan's an unassailable 5-1 lead. The second and third game saw Sanjay Singh and Paddy Padayachee beat Vasa and Jodie to take the scores to 5-3. The final game saw Charlie beat Ajen to give Dhan's Auto a 6-3 victory to stay at the summit of the log table. In the other game played, newcomers Red Gold Darts Club beat the more fancied Quartz Darts Club 6-3. Tonight, Darnall United go up against Singh's Fireworks and Dhan's Auto play Red Gold Darts Club. Quartz are club on duty.
