The iLembe District Municipality council approved the Adjustments Budget for the 2019/2020 financial year last Wednesday, 26 February 2020 at the iLembe House Executive Boardroom in KwaDukuza. The South African Democratic Teachers Union in Inkosi Albert Luthuli Region hosted a sports day at Stanger High School on Friday 06 March. This was part of the union's strategic plan to endorse a healthy lifestyle and build cohesion among its members. Different branches under the regions locked horns in various sports categories such as basketball, soccer and 100m run. Speaking to the Xpress Times, Deputy Chairperson Phumzile Mbonambi said that SADTU is celebrating 30 years of existence and the movement saw it proper to host a sports day to develop healthy habits in members. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We are promoting a healthy lifestyle at the same time trying to maximise the membership of SADTU, as a progressive movement we pride ourselves in wellness and we want our educators to be in top notch during teaching sessions,â&#x20AC;? said Phumzile Mbonambi. MADUNDUBE: The African National Congress volunteers from the D.R Sibiya branch in Madundube embarked on a clean-up campaign on the R74 on Sunday, March 7. The clean-up was aimed at assisting pedestrians and scholars from the nearby schools to avoid being knocked by passing vehicles due to motorist's obscured vision because of the overgrown side walk bush. Each of the victories was convincing as they won the first by 74 runs, and the second and third by 6 wickets. Some of those who starred for the Proteas were Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Kyle Verreyne, Janneman Malan, and Jon Jon Smuts with the bat, uncharacteristically, skipper Quinton de Kock was dismissed cheaply in all 3 innings. With the ball, it was left to Anrich Nortje, spinners Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi and Smuts, and speedster Lungi Ngidi who took an unbelievable 6-58 in the 2nd match. Presently, the Association is financially sound and much of this redounds to the credit of Abraham's popularity. He has now been honoured with the prestigious post of Honorary Life Vice-President, a position that is reserved for officials who have served with dedication, sacrifice and excellence. He will go down in the annals of Volleyball as someone who put the sport on the map in the town, province and country. May he enjoy a well-earned retirement in the knowledge that he served selflessly without aspiring for higher posts. He will be replaced by another longserving official, Kruba Jaram, who has served as Secretary of the KwaZulu Natal Volleyball Association. This column wishes her well in her new role. Gokar completes Cape Town Cycle Tour Dr Kiren Gokar (principal at M L SULTAN) and Vikash Rampurthab (Manor Liquors) successfully competed the gruelling 109km Cape Town Cycle Tour. The scenic route included a host of international and local riders who have enjoyed the benefits of riding one of the largest timed cycle tours in the world. Against the background of Table Mountain the riders made their way up and down the Gruelling Chapmans peak through the suburbs. Thousands if spectators lined the route and created a fabulous atmosphere as the riders made the epic journey.
