Occupational Therapy Awareness Week
AWARENESS: Local Occupational Therapist, Nasrin Vadia of Stanger Hospital joined other Occupational Therapists from KZN on Saturday, 5 October 2013 at Moses Mabida Stadium to promote Occupational Therapy. The theme for the day was: “Bringing out the ABILITY in DISABILITY”
By Xpress Reporter This week, 7 to 11 October 2013 marks Occupational Therapy Awareness Week. Occupational therapists enable people with any form of impairment, be it due to a physical, mental or developmental condition, to live as independently as possible whether it's a child that was born with a disability, a scholar with learning difficulties, an adult with an anxiety disorder preventing them from coping with work, an elderly person with a wrist fracture, and anything inbetween. Occupational therapy is the use of therapeutic practical activities to improve/strengthen
areas of weakness or limitation, and to train practical ways to go about tasks. According to Occupational Therapist, Nasrin Vadia of Stanger Hospital, if there is a barrier or impairment limiting you from being able to go about your daily living independently, then you may need Occupational Therapy. “We see your activities of daily living as occupations of life. Each task that we do as humans, whether it's bathing, driving, studying etc., is an occupation,
and if you have a disability preventing you from being able to do these then we teach, train, rehabilitate and compensate for limitations so that you can develop the ABILITY to live life to its fullest,” said Vadia. She added that the goal is to help clients achieve independence, balance, meaning and satisfaction in all aspects of their lives. “Occupational Therapy blends science, humanism, intellectual rigour and compassion,” she said.

prize money at the final ceremony held at the Umhlali Country Club last week. The eldest of four children, Siphesihle learnt everything about the trade from his uncle Bheki. When his uncle passed away in 2008 Siphesihle took over the reins of the operation and has not looked back since that time. Today he employs five people on a part time basis and has one other full time employee in addition to himself. Announcing the winner, Judge Jane Wiltshire said: “Many things impressed us about Siphesihle, his youth and the fact that this enterprise creates jobs. More importantly though is his clear identification of an underserviced niche of black, middle income home owners in Groutville and his absolute commitment to quality.” Now in its third year, 'The Winner: 2013 ENTREPRENEUR Winner Entrepreneur' competition aims Siphesihle Gumede (left) owner of Superior Kitchens with two of his employees at addressing the problem of unemployment in the country by providing much RAPIDLY EXPANDING BUSINESS IS needed mentorship and guidance to aspiring North LOOKING TO EMPLOY DYNAMIC Coast small business owners. Luthuli Museum receives invaluable donation By Xpress Reporter An exercise book containing hand written notes penned by Africa's first Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Chief Albert Luthuli was officially donated to the Luthuli Museum by Pam Didcott, wife of former Constitutional Court Judge, John Didcott. The discovery of the notebook was made by Mrs Didcott soon after her husband a founder member of the Liberal Party and Chancellor of Durban Westville university passed away in 1998 and had remained in her possession ever since as a treasured memento. Entitled “My Outlook” dated 20 June, 1957 and signed, the original Tudor exercise book contains hand written notes by Chief Albert Luthuli on a number of different topics such as the “Spirit of Service
to Humanity” and “Why I Champion the Cause of Freedom”. It documents his education, his membership and participation in other societies, his banning orders and notes around his deposition as a member of the Native Representatives Council. It contains rare insight of the influence of the church and Christianity in various areas of the life of Chief Albert Luthuli. “We are very excited about this donation and wish to use the opportunity to call on other members of the public who directly or indirectly knew or had dealings with Chief Albert Luthuli to consider handing over such historical or official documents or photographs or objects that are linked to Chief Luthuli for safekeeping at the Museum,” said
Luthuli Museum Director Brian Xaba. He added that the notebook will be accessioned, catalogued and stored in a temperature c o n t r o l l e d environment. “Further research of the book and its contents will take place for future historical reference. A copy of it will be placed on our digital on-line catalogue that is linked to our website and this will enable academics and researchers from all over the world access to a document that otherwise would have remained hidden away,” he said.

Run for your life Two traffic officials were left red-faced recently when their prisoner escaped from their vehicle with his handcuffs. The officers allege that they arrested Zaid Mohammed (22) in possession of one straw of whoonga. On their way to the police, they were summoned to a complainant and on arrival left Mohammed handcuffed in the vehicle alone. The youngster ran for his life and had the handcuffs cut off with an angle grinder by a friend. Later that day he was nabbed by the officers when he paid his girlfriend a visit. Mohammed is due back in court on 10 December. Still illegal Despite all the hype and debate about legalizing or decriminalizing drugs, dagga still remains an illegal substance. Vendors bent on making a killing out of the sale of the drug are becoming more brazen and
increasing their stock as the demand increases. Recently, new police recruits spotted a woman acting somewhat strangely and as they approached her spot at the market plaza, she walked away. The officers brought her back to her wares and on searching her goods found a packet containing 67 parcels of dagga weighing in at 186 grams. Despite her apologies the officers placed her under arrest. Thandi Mthembu (49) of Melville was granted bail and is expected back at court on 10 December. Scara again Notorious Scara Applesamy (20) of Sunny Park just feels lost when he is not in trouble. In his latest escapade he allegedly broke into a flat in Sunny Park in the morning. Faye Ramen alleges that she is currently renovating her flat. She visited the flat and noticed that the geyser was stripped of all the copper fittings. She made enquiries and learnt
that Scara had stolen the copper after breaking into her flat and sold it to a local dealer. A neighbour confirmed seeing Scara in the flat. Applesamy was arrested by Crime Prevention members on another charge and she identified him to police officers when she was opening a case at the charge office. Applesamy will seek bail this week. Fair game Construction sites are targeted and seen as fair game by criminals. R & B Pipeline Construction who has several sites along our area became the latest victims of a culprit requiring wire and shade cloth. Professor Ngwenya who is in charge of security received a call from a guard who w a s threatened with harm and injury by the man who was cutting wire and shade cloth at their
Melville site at 10:45pm. Ngwenya gathered several others and when approaching the culprit he put up a fight. They did however manage to subdue him. Michael Mthembu (43) is due back at court on 21 November. All 15 metres of stolen wire and the 15 metres of shade cloth were recovered.

Whoonga power Local police have experienced first-hand the brute strength one gains from using whoonga. The officers allege they approached a suspicious person and as they were about to conduct a search on him he fled. They managed to apprehend him and he began assaulting one of the young officers with the help of his two colleagues. Michael Gumede (22) was finally subdued. In his possession they found two straws of whoonga and a small quantity of dagga. He is now charged for assault on police and resisting arrest apart from the two drug related cases. Gumede is due before court on 19 December.

Hirsch’s helps Mount Moriah children Every year, Hirsch's takes on a project (usually a home) in one of the communities in which they operate, and carries out a "makeover" to help turn the lives of the occupants around. This year, they scoured KZN for a suitable project, and found that the most deserving of all the homesteads and edu-care facilities they visited was Mount Moriah Educare Centre and Pre-School near Phoenix.
Over 200 children are being cared for in make shift containers. Toilet and kitchen facilities are abysmal. There is no government funding for the school and the children, ranging in age from18 months to 5 years old, have nowhere else to go. Hirsch's plan is to build a formal pre-school and day care centre, a library, ablution blocks and community centre on the site. Hirsch's KZN Action Team will b e

Councillors Corner The differences between the roles of ward councilor and PR (proportional representation). The ward councillor is democratically elected by the community in the same ward while PR councilors are deployed by political parties. A ward councilor represents the interest and development of the ward while PR councillors represent party interests on council and in wards they have been deployed by their respective political parties for example the Democratic Alliance (DA). A total of 10 ward committee members are elected in the ward to support the ward councilors and they represent the community in making recommendation to council on issues, projects and municipal related business. It must be borne in mind that all developments in any ward are driven by the ward councilor and ward committee members through the Integrated Development Planning (IDP) and public participation. Nobody should undermine this government system which is designed and implemented across the country to avoid conflict of interest. I can report that resurfacing and tarring in Stanger Manor is proceeding smoothly, with little inconvenience to motorists and the process is well managed when interventions are needed. In the end we will have better quality road and better storm water drainage system that was neglected for more than a decade. The respective municipalities in iLembe and KwaDukuza (KDM) must attend to problems quickly to ensure the continuity of the project. Last week our meeting with the consultant and
contractor indicated that water pipes and electrical cable were not buried deep enough according to normal standard requirements and has led to breakages which are resolved on daily basis. With streetlights the company that was awarded contract by the municipality has been liquidated which means there is a lot of incomplete work in Stanger Manor including 132 streetlights not working. Please be patient while council will have to devise alternate methods of resolving the much needed service especially while criminals are taking advantage of the situation. Having old potholes beginning to open up means these are operational issues that need to be reported on time to carry out repairs and your assistance is also requested. Residents are also requested to drop their refuse in the skip placed at the bus terminal and not outside. Traffic officers needs to also monitor people that hang around on daily basis with undesirable activities near the skip. At last after two months of waiting the new lights at the bus terminal has been switched on and this would definitely deter criminals in the area. The community hall for Stanger Manor is still in limbo. Our proposal to build behind the Manor Library was not supported by council and instead they chose to build at the corner of Aster and Daisy Street. The Geotech report was tabled at our meeting with the consultant where we also raised many concerns and have asked council to re-visit the site issue and I am optimistic that KDM Mayor Ricardo Mthembu will resolve this as soon as possible to allow the project to start. Councillor Madhun Sobram Sing - Ward 17

The Conspiracy Theory hoax (Scientific American Mind) Conspiracy theories offer easy answers by casting the world as simpler as and more predictable than it is. Their popularity may pose a threat to societal well-being. Many scholars dismiss conspiracy theorists as paranoid and delusional. Psychological data bolster their case: people who harbour conspiracies' thoughts are also more inclined to paranoid ideation and schizotypy, a mild form of schizophrenia. As conspiracy theory expert Timothy Melley of Miami University has put it, these beliefs are often dismissed as “the implausible visions of a lunatic fringe.” Excerpt from article

In support of our heritage and marking over 150 years of our proud culture, tradition and values, we continue to make a difference in the lives of the community we serve with passion. Diwali Hampers will be distributed to the indigent. To qualify your combined income should not exceed more than R2500 per month. This year the Shree Hanuman Temple Group will distribute 300 hampers valued at over R60 000 whilst the estimated cost to host the event is R75 000. The main sponsor and head of the temple Councillor Madhun Sobram Sing says he sees this as an opportunity to share

Your unselfish service to the community will last for a long time,” says Sing. He added that a man endowed with wealth is like having a tank full of water in times of drought his duty is to share and not be selfish. October 11, 2013 QURBANI THE CUTTING EDGE OF SACRIFICE Jews, Christians and Muslims believe that the Patriarch of these three monotheistic religions, Prophet Ebrahim or Abraham (peace be upon him) was commanded to sacrifice his son, Ismail according to Muslims and Isaac according to the others. The Bible mentions sacrifice 358 times and the Quran 26 times. Qurbani is derived from the Arabic root word qurban meaning closeness or nearness i.e. to Allah (SWT). In the Arab world the preferred terminology is Udhiyyah It is undertaken by Muslims worldwide in keeping with the above Prophetic Tradition and becomes incumbent on those that have the means. Qurbani is a sacred and very meritorious act and should be done only for the pleasure of Allah {SWT). It is stated In the Noble Quran that, "It Is not the meat nor the blood that reaches Allah but It Is the piety from you" (Surah al Hajj, Verse 37). Say "Truly my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and any death, are all for Allah, the cherlsher of the Worlds" (Surah al An aam, Verse 162). The period for Qurbani commences after the Eid prayer (10th Zul Hijjah) and ends before Maghrib (evening prayer) on the 12th Zul Hajjah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said “There is no action of the son of Adam (Alayhis Salaam) that is more beloved to Allah on the day of Eid than the shedding of blood. Verily, the animal will come on the day of Judgement with its horns, its hair and its hooves (which will be placed in his scale of deeds). Indeed the blood (of the slaughtered animal) reaches acceptance with Allah before it even falls to the ground, so do this action with zeal and enthusiasm” (Tirmizl & lbn Maajah). THE DIFFERENT SPECIES OF ANIMALS FOR SACRIFICE: 1. CATTLE Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran: “Verily Allah Ta'ala commands you to slaughter the cow” (Surah al Baqarah, Verse 67). Under the ambit of this verse, oxen and buffalos are included. They should be two years old or more. Seven persons can be partners in the Qurbani of these large animals. 2. SHEEP, LAMB AND GOATS A verse of the Quran reads, “And we have compensated him (Ebrahim Alayhis Salaam) with a great sacrifice” (Surah al Saffaat, Verse 107). Sheep, rams and goats are also included under the ambit of this verse. They should be one year old or more, but in the case of sheep, at least six months old. 3. CAMELS Allah (SWT) also says in another verse; “then perform Salaat for your Rabb and make Nahr (pierce the throat)”. (Surah al Kawthar, Verse 2)The throat of camels are pierced and not slaughtered like cattle because their blood vessels, food pipe and windpipe is structured differently. A FEW RULES REGARDING SLAUGHTER 1.The prescribed method of slaughter in both scriptures are similar in that the
Wishing Muslim the world over A Blessed EID-UL-ADHA and all HUJJAJ - HAJJ MABROOR knife has to be sharp to minimize pain, the name of the Almighty God must be pronounced and the animal must be completely bled. 2.If the slaughterer omits the Tasmiyah (incantation) of "in the name of Allah, Allah is Great" intentionally, the animal will not be permissible to eat. If however, it is omitted forgetfully, it will be deemed Halaal and may be eaten. 3.The incision should be made below the Adams apple, (i.e. between the throat and the upper part of the chest).

4.The swift cut that involves the windpipe (trachea), gullet (oesophagus) and the two arteries without severing the spinal cord results in the rapid gush of blood draining. This purifies the meat by removing most of the blood that acts as a medium for micro organisms. 5.To continue cutting till the spinal cord when slaughtering and also to sever the head is reprehensible. If however, the head was totally cut off, the animal would still be permissible to consume. 6.The intention of the sacrifice is of extreme importance to the end result. For example if one person of the seven shareholders decides to utilize the Qurbani just to secure meat for the BBQ or Braaivleis, than it will nullify the sacrifice of the others, 7.Every person is encouraged to slaughter his/her own animal. If one is unable to slaughter, then at least one should be present to witness the slaughter as encouraged in the traditions. 8.It is not permissible to use animals for Qurbani which have defects such as more than a third of the tail, horn, or ear is cut off, and also such animals that are unable to walk to the place of slaughter. 9.Fix a price with the skinner before skinning and do not give offal, meat etc of the Qurbani animal in lieu of payment. However offal may be given to the staff in addition to their wage as charity. 10.After slaughtering a Qurbani animal we should read the following dua: “O Allah accept this sacrifice from me as you have accepted from your beloved Nabi Muhammad (peace be upon him) and your friend Ebrahim (peace be upon him)” A FEW DESIRABLE (MUSTAHAB) ACTS OF QURBANI

1.To face Qiblah when slaughtering. 2.It is recommended that one's Qurbani should be distributed in three portions, a third for yourself, a third for relatives and a third for the poor A FEW UNDESIRABLE (MAKROOH) ACTS OF QURBANI 1.Slaughtering an animal in the presence of other animals. 2.Sharpening the knife In front of the animal to be slaughtered. 3.Placing the head of a live animal in the blood of other animals that were slaughtered. 4.Delaying the slaughter when the animal is already on the ground. 5.Using a blunt knife. 6.Breaking the neck of an animal while still alive i.e. immediately after slaughter, whilst there is movement in the animal. 7.Skinning the animal while there are still signs of life. IMPORTANT ADVICE 1.Ensure that payments for Qurbani are honoured timeously and to the letter. 2.The Prophet (peace be upon him) strongly warned those persons who do have the means but do not carry out this important function for Qurbani in the following words, “He who has the means to do Qurbani but does not do so should not attend Eid Prayer." 3.Animals should be kept in areas with proper ventilation, transported in ventilated vehicles, fed well and given clean water to drink. 4.Rinse the carcass inside and out to avoid blood and smell remaining on the carcass. 5.Store carcass in a chiller or a cool area for a day for firmness and ease of slicing. CONCLUSION: The companions asked the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) 'what is this Qurbani?' He answered; “This is the sunnah of your forefather Ebrahim Alayhis Salaam. They then asked; “What is there in it for us?” the Prophet (Peace be upon him) stated “for every hair is a reward...” After completing ones own Qurbani it is meritorious to assist others in carrying out this sacred and virtuous deed. This is an abbreviated version of advices and rules for Qurbani. Please consult your local Ulama for in-depth guidance and clarification

Prof. Yisa And Mama Koshay I used MAGIC RING to pay my debts : the sheriffs department debt collectors have been harassing me for 3 years due to debts that have been lingering with me, other events happened including cutting off my electricity (power). Telephone line and water supply. I was blacklisted. I can’t get loan anywhere. This was putting a strain on my family especially my son who was an alcoholic & not employed which led him taking drugs. With Samuli Powder TRUE STORY
Vanessa (40) - Musgrave. We would like to inform the world that it really works as we won the money in Suncoast casino using Mama Madina’s Samuli powder . We first heard about Mama Madina last year but we couldn’t believe it first until last month when our aunt went to her and her life changed after she won a lot of jack pots at suncoast casino. My husband and I were very deep in debts our house was almost going away by the banks our cars were already repossessed, so we decided to try Mama Madina’s Samuli powder we booked an appointment and went to her. She charged us and read out our fortune, we were so surprised when she told us every thing, she even touched the days we met and the reason why we were failing in life. She prayed for us and gave us the samuli powder to use. We began by playing the machines and later went to the tables. Everyone was looking at us. We were winning, we won a lot in the casino. Now that we have money our lives have changed. We paid of our debts bought a new house and now we opening new businesses. We testify out of our faith that Mama Madina has served us all in our family, she is God sent. We regard her as our family mother. Our children are back to good schools. If you are in the same situation don't waste time and money on others just go to Mama Madina she will change your life.

Topsy-turvy EZE's Electrical Competitive League The Stanger and District Volleyball Association EZE's Electrical Competitive League has had a topsy-turvy time this season with the top of the table changing hands on many occasions over the five round league between KSST, Randsons and Grove End and its is still going down the wire with the final few games left. KSST caused havoc with the league last Thursday when they toppled log leaders Randsons (whom they have lost three times this season) sending rivals Grove End to the top of the leader board on points difference. Randsons were demoted to third place with KSST occupying second spot. In a one sided affair, KSST demolished Randsons hopes of clinching the league with a one sided victory over Randsons. The quartet of

Stanger and District Volleyball Association will host the Power Sales knockout tournament for Corporate League teams commencing today (Wednesday) at the association courts at 7pm. Matches will be played in two pools on a league basis. The round robin matches in each pool will be contested on the basis of best of three sets (uncapped 15 points per set). The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semi finals scheduled for Wednesday, October 16. The finals will take place on October 23. Braai packs will be given to all participants after the final. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up. The entry fee of R300 per team must be paid prior to the draws. President of SDVA, Isaac Abraham expressed his sincere thanks to Shokes Naidoo of Power Sales for his generous sponsorship.
Damien 'Shrek' Peters, Cameron Singh, Leon 'Haircut' Maistry and the young Byron Athymoolam were in scintillating form in both attack and defense. Randsons were in disarray from the very beginning with the quartet running riot. KSST hammered Randsons 25-8 in the first set with Ahmed Essack guilty of numerous unforced errors. Even the presence of the inspiration Neren 'Bob' Reddy in the second set could not pick up the spirits of the Randsons players as KSST ran out 25-17 in the second set. In another league match played at the Association courts on Thursday, Warriors Sport had heads turning as they literally lit up the court with yet another dazzling neon orange kit sponsored by Roxy Manufacturers. The
performance was just as equally dazzling as they faced-off against a strong and experienced Grove End side under the expert guidance of veteran Manager Kamal Singh. Warriors took the lead in the first set but went down 21-25 in the final moments, keeping Grove End on their feet and the line standing in awe. Grove End also won the second set 25-19, but with lack-lustre performance from the veterans, with youngsters Vinny and Sherwin packing the dynamite. Warriors President, Rajiv Mathapershad, was full of praise of these youngsters and equally proud of his squad of 'warriors'. He was also thankful to sponsors Shaun and Sue Abdool-Rahman of Roxy Manufacturers for coming to their assistance yet again, after having sponsored the Warriors cricket franchise.
Bucs and Esperance play to exciting draw Orlando Pirates will take heart from their second half performance as they take a 0-0 score line into the second CAF Champions League semi-final against Esperance. The Tunisians created the better chances early on, while Pirates enjoyed much time on the ball. As early as the ninth minute, Esperance striker Joseph N'djeng-N'djeng was allowed time and space on the ball, with his left-footed strike hitting the roof of the net. Despite the early warning, the home side was again on the back foot as Oupa Manyisa lost possession just a minute later. The North Africans
launched an attack and when Manyisa tried to recover the ball, Ace hit it forward and N'djeng was put through oneon-one with Senzo Meyiwa. Fortunately for Bucs, Meyiwa was at his best to make a save from N'djeng's attempt. After that, no real chances were created until the 36th minute when Pirates finally managed to get the better of the Esperance defence. Manyisa and Daine Klate combined down the left wing, with the latter whipping in a cross for Sifiso Myeni but Ntsunda's header was well wide. Bucs started the second half the better side, but at this
ESCAPE: Tlou Segolela in disbelief as Pirates draw with Esperance
point Esperance had decided to park a bus making it difficult for the Soweto side to create clear cut chances. In fact, it took all of 20 minutes in the second half for Pirates to come close to scoring. Manyisa tried his luck from distance, but his shot was wide in the 65th minute. Moments later, Tlou Segolela, who had replaced Myeni, had a penalty appeal turned down after crossing the ball and the Esperance defender appeared to handle the ball as he went down. Chances were far and few between, but Pirates continued to control possession. With four minutes to go of regulation time, Segolela's unexpected cross from the right was missed by Bacela, who was just behind as the ball went across the face of goal. Thabo Matlaba almost stole it for the Bucs at the death, but his potent strike was well saved by Moez Ben Cherifia. That's how it ended in a goalless draw with Pirates looking to either win or get an away goal in a draw in Tunis, Tunisia to advance to the CAF Champions League final.

Team iLembe ready for SALGA KZN Games
Page 19
Sportsmen and women from the iLembe District Municipality showed just how ready they are for the SALGA KZN Games when they exhibited endurance, strength, technique, sportsmanship, teamwork and fun at the Inter-Municipal Games 2013 held this past Saturday in KwaDukuza. The weekend's games were held to select a team that will represent iLembe at the SALGA KZN Games that will be held at Sisonke District Municipality in Ixopo in December 2013. The Inter-Municipal Games started off with a parade by athletes from the four local municipalities, namely Mandeni, KwaDukuza, Ndwedwe and Maphumulo, with the latter stealing the show as they were lead into the KwaDukuza Recreational Grounds by drum majorettes. The athletes took part in 15 different sporting codes including basketball, volleyball, football, golf, netball, swimming, cricket etc. Giving a speech before the prize giving ceremony in the evening, His Worship the Mayor of iLembe District Municipality, Cllr Welcome Mdabe voiced out his concerns about Team iLembe's performance in the Games. Last year iLembe came out in eighth place, in 2011 it was in position four and position five in 2010.
“This message goes out to all my brothers and sisters leading teams, namely the team managers, coaches and everyone involved. Last year Team iLembe came out in eighth place in the games. We have 11 districts in the province and we came out in eighth place. The reason for that is because athletes are not chosen based on perfomance but because they are known to you. We will not stand for that,” he said. Ilembe SALGA Games Project Manager Mr Mbongiseni Mthembu said he was optimistic about Team iLembe's performance this year. “The Inter-Municipal Games were tough. The standard of the Games has reached new heights. The behind the scenes work and co-ordination gives us confidence in that we will deliver a winning team this year. We are gunning for a position in the Top 3,” he said. Mthembu said athletes selected to represent iLembe will begin training immediately in preparation for the sporting spectacular in Ixopo in December. “We are currently in the process of soliciting support from the local municipalities to transport the athletes. As a district we have a budget for a few dates and times and we feel that those days are not sufficient to prepare a winning team,” he said.

Landslide victory for Team KwaDukuza Mthembu expresses great sense of elation as the biggest municipality in iLembe takes 10 cups home KWADUKUZA Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu spokes out following a landslide victory of 'Team KwaDukuza' at the iLembe Inter-Municipality Games held in KwaDukuza at the weekend. Sports facilities of the biggest municipality in the iLembe district were in numbers. Last Saturday saw four municipalities clash in more than 15 sports codes in the annual inter-municipality
games. Mthembu notes the scores which occupied KwaDukuza sports facilities and the overwhelming support by sister municipalities as KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM), played host to the tournament. As the level of competition remained high, Team KwaDukuza claimed a landslide victory after scooping ten out of fifteen
development.' 'The positive results we received clearly speak of the efforts we have applied to empower our communities.' 'The success of Team KwaDukuza is an indication that we are hard at empowering young men and women in sports. For the past two months, we have been engaging young people from all corners of KwaDukuza in an intensive training programme which has yielded positive results.' 'This gives us assurance and guarantee that we will claim a landslide victory in next year's tournament and make a significant contribution in strengthening Team iLembe in the South African Local Government (SALGA), games.' 'We have embraced sportsmen, activists from all corners of KwaDukuza. Our municipality has always held substance in all its competitive offerings. Given the programmes that we continue to roll out in the interest of young people, this alone is fine proof that we are a growing municipality in
cups. Mthembu on Monday expressed a great sense of elation at the overwhelming participation of young sports men and women, commending victorious efforts by Team KwaDukuza. 'The decisive victory and overwhelming activism by members of the public tells a good story about the positive direction we are ascending to, in terms of sports

'Council has always reserved its political will to empower young people.' 'We therefore appeal to the community to support government to promote these undertakings to build a progressive society, 'he added. 'As we mark 20 years of democracy in 2014, we are gunning for more activism in sports. 'We will continue to create meaningful platforms for progressive engagements with young people,' Mthembu concluded. Team KwaDukuza was competing against its neighbours, Ndwedwe, Maphumulo and Mandeni municipality. Council members who were assigned to various sports codes have sang praise songs to more than 300 young sports men and women who were competing in the tournament.

many terms. 'We further note the overwhelming response to sports across various communities. This possesses a confrontation for us as government to raise the bar and fine-tune our focus on sports codes which have not gained enough popularity. 'Our interests in youth development is not intended to titillate the imagination of the public but to empower young people to fight social ills and to create a prosperous society.' Mthembu said there is still a need for the municipality to further stretch its resources to the limit. Mthembu confirms that KwaDukuza Municipality continues to promote social activism in the lives of young people. 'We are working hard to provide descent infrastructure for sports development.'
